Pundrew, PPK, Kit, Gluey, Richard, Kevv, Callaway, Icequeen, Parts, PMS Elle, Alex179, Dunc, Peaguy, Butterflies, Lit, odeon, kaileen, Sir Les, and last but not least, eclair.

Well, they're both a lot like they are online. It's no suprise after meeting McJagger that Intensity was his idea. Let's just say he has a very active mind and for a while, this was his outlet. I think he's moved onto other things. Dirt Dawg is the laid back philosopher that he has been on here. He's experienced quite a bit in his time and is full of insight. He's an eclectic renaissance man.

I could definitely meet someone here if I just fixed some flaws on my face with surgery so I can look like I want to, that would have to be done first.

But of course, as I said before, I would have to meet them in some club or in THEIR homes, not my home.

Well, I've already met EBM. ;)

I don't want to name who I definitely want to meet because my memory is shit and I know I'll forget someone. I can get along with most anyone (at least for a short amount of time) so other than the obvious, Sol, there's no one that I really don't want to meet. But I reserve the right to change my mind should I get to know some of the newer members and find they really piss me off.  :green:

You would not have to meet me to be my friend. I would love to meet you, just to see if you were as dorky offline as you appear online and in your photo. I suspect it is not possible but I would like to sate that curiosity aspect.

:green:

Hi CG! Are you just visiting? ;D

And what did you do to EBM?

Don't worry. I feed him daily. He likes being tied up like that.

Nah, you know me. Life goes to shit, CG takes a hiatus from the board.  ::) But now things are looking up. Just finished 8 days in the hospital due to a raging case of bacterial pneumonia that was kicking my ass. But I think half of it was my body crashing after everything I've been through with the ex. He's still here  ::) but my lawyer sent his lawyer a letter stating he needs to be out by November 30th. Crossing all the crossable parts that that happens.

PPK is about 5 hours north of me. He's in the east S.F. Bay area and I'm on the central coast. It would make for a nice drive though, hit wine country up there, see PPK, then cruise down PCH, and tour our wine country. :wine:

I would not be adverse to meeting anyone. I do not know what any of you are like in real life, away from the keyboard. I presume that like me you are much the same. I am not very socially aware but not shy. I would imagine most of you are similar.

Why me, S_B ? Would be fun.

Walkie, you-S_B I'd gladly go for a pint or three with , CBC, the delightful Renster with her killer autie death stare and stylish glasses, 'raxy, miss K of course. And our resident grumpy ol' cunt Al :D

QV, and I'd be absolutely delighted to meet the PR, I have to say, for someone I've never met, I am quite enamoured :) seems a real sweetie.

Who else...FWM seems a decent sort, grey area seems an alright sort, DFG, didn't kassiane S/rettdevil at one point come here? now there is a lady who has from the moment I first spoke to her, pretty much fell for. WOw...*eyes pop and brain follows, dragging glands in tow behind them* A lady as intellectual and briliant as she is gorgeous, and as gorgeous as she is hilarious when she snarks off at a deserving target. That is a woman I could give myself over to in totality and spend my days with until I have no more of them left. One of only a tiny number of people, less than the number I could count on one hand's fingers, that I would consider that with. Or ever have felt that strongly for and about.

Hey! Thanks for the mention, S_B and Lestat. Would like to meet you guys too :) Well, given that we're not on  opposite sides of the pond, that might be doable, sometime.
It's really hard to think of anyone her that I wouldn't like to meet! Top of my list is Pyraxis, but then I have already met her, IRL, and very much  hoping to do so again...though it's a tad difficult,  what with her being in Canada and me in England.

Hey, S_B. Don't worry about numbers. Chance to get that many together all at once would be a fine thing! (I have tried!) . Spazz meetings are different from NT socialising. I've been to some. Normal social rules don't apply, and everybody pretty much understands if you need to just sit in a corner and rock. That said, spazzes in groups  can surprise themselves by being much more social than they usually are.

Anyway, iff any of you guys find yourselves in my neck of the woods, do  feel free to drop round. I'm about 10 minutes walk from the train station.  (And I can  let you have my adress by PM or something)

Autistics rock. Thats what I say. And flap, and twist and twirl. And so much the better. I do and I haven't the slightest spot of 'shame' about it, I don't feel any nor do I feel like I ought to, and should anybody, NT or otherwise tell me different they can get stuffed and go sit on a cactus.

What neck of the woods are you from walkie m'dear? general area wise? because I'd be up for it if you are. You're one of the top of my list. And as for your having met 'raxy, you lucky bastard. That is some good company by any estimation (and both ways around at that :)) Both of you are lucky fuckers for having met each other.

I'm in Coventry, Lestat, about 20 miles East of Brum. If Brum is the heart of England, then we're  the left tit.

I've got an old thread somewhere wheere I was listing all our British members , along with their locations, because  Teddy Berar and I were  trying to organise a meet-up . But then nobody could agree aboy time and place. And then Teddy Bear died, earlier this year.  Without him, and his car  I'm a bit ham-strung, cos I can't get far on foot, not even with my Walker, dammit, I'm clapped out by the time I get to the bus -stop! So i've just had to let that go :(. If anybody else wants to take over, do  feel free!

I went to Coventry once when Phil drove me up there to see Tom, Mike and Kam. Don't think Tom was there. Mike had a house full of old TVs, it was amazing. Much as I was mad at Tom and Kath for not being there when I was suicidal, I do miss them, and Mike and Kam were lovely too. Miss Phil also. But then, I wasn't interested in anything romantic with any of them, not that they were with me, I don't think. Tom looked so depressed when I last saw him, I just wanted to give him a hug. I mean he looked really, really down. I hope he's OK.

I'm up manchester ways walkie. So not hugely far, got to be train carriage to your end. Would be nice to plan a meetup. And you can be safe in the knowedge I'm no murderer, robber or rapist (or combination of any two of, or all three of the previous. I'm no angel, but I'm no devil made flesh either. Somewhere in the middle. Perchance more 'risen demon' than 'fallen angel')

I am, well, I'm just practical, and and I have little sufferance for foolish regulations which exist for their own sake, and especially for contempt-worthy 'laws' which have no victim if they be 'violated', athough I see not how such can BE subject to violation given that they are not truly law in any manner worthy of the term. I just don't respect them enough to consider them worthy of being treated as being in existence if it inconveniences me to do so in any way :P

Such can, to put it blunty and a little vulgary, go and kiss my autistic arse and call my anal hair candy fucking floss.

I was thinking it would be a tad selfish of me to  arrange a meet-up in Cov, just because it's the only place where I can realistically meet people now . But what the heck. If you're up for it, Lestat, why not?
Anybody else?
We have a Transport Museum , by the way (very appealing to some spazzes) and two Cathedrals; the bomberd out Old Cathedral, and the modern New Cathedral built alongside it.  Both worth visiting. For my own part, i shant be walking round the tourist attractions  with anybody, cos that kind of energy expenditure would fry my brain, and I'd sooner be up for talking, but no reason why others can't.
Might be an idea to all  meet at my place, in any case.  I can supply free coffee, and maybe some gluten-free vegan food, if I'm up to cooking. Failing which, there are about a dozen takeaways just around the corner- from me Turkish, Greek, Italian, Chinese,  award-winning chippy, etc.

Could you assist in route-planning? I very, very rarely use pubic transport, trains in particular. Bar pre-arranged ones as a young-mid teen and kid, I have only ever arranged a train twice in my iife. Even if its just the route suggestions and background research lookup.  I'd love the chance to meet you no matter the entertainment in terms of setting. No need to worry about cooking, I couldn't eat anything vegan anyhow, since I don't and never have been able to bear vegetables. Sensory bubonic plague. Festering on the devil's own rectal sphincter :P

If it is vegetation and it is neither fruit nor nut nor some sort of therapeutic plant product for medicinal use (which generally taste foul, its probably a general principle that if a herbal medicine isn't disgusting to consume it probably doesn't do you any good :P)

(although admittedly, there are some mushroom-based remedies that do taste and even smell good too, such as especially, the fly agaric mushroom when made into a medicinal tea) Take-out would work better for you would it? because that woud for me too. Or else you could concentrate on your own chow and I'd be just fine sorting my own grub. Or even bring it with me. Or go without. Either way. I'd love to see the garden too :) I'm sure you and I could go on for a long time about planting and growing and making interesting and neat uses of herbs.

Could see about bringing some sparable seeds with me, I've got a big jar of poppy seed (Papaver somniferum, the opium poppy, harvested a few years back but ought to be viable still) not sure about how long khat stays viable but I could spare a few seeds, not got many but I'd split em with you sure, especially if you'd help me out with cuttings when they grow old if you get em to grow. And I'd try and find the bellladonna seed of course, those I've not so much idea about how to grow either, never got them to myself, but sure between us we'd find out online. And try to find the blonde belladonna colormorph although no promises I'd be able to. I'd do me best though. Its deadly nightshade, same species, Atropa belladonna, only its flowers are a pale creamy white colour, rather than the usual deep purple color, I have some of both, athough again, its a matter of finding them both. Even the seeds of the bonde belladonna are pale and whiteish, whilst those I harvested myself from a wild deadly nightshade bush in full ripe fruit of the typical dark purple color, the seeds are a sort of silvery-grey color, that reminds me very much of elemental iodine in the solid state. Same shade and shinyness and slightly pitted texture, oddly the pitting seems absent from the blonde deadly nightshade. I've never grown either, I don't know if the blonde stuff is even ripe, it was sent to me, by somebody I wish I knew how the hell to get in contact with to return the favour, came all the way from oz courtesy of an aspie/autie lady who seems to like her gardening too.

Never seen belladonna in the wild in the full-grown live plant state bar the once, the purple color-morph, that I picked the seeds of the typical kind I have from, just pulled the ripe berries off the bush, and squished them through a sieve, washed away the juices from the berries and the flesh, skin-coat on the surface of the berries etc. Needless to say you don't want to eat either color type. But I am just too unfamiliar with the blonde version to even know if its ripe or thats the natural look in the ripe state, the pale color of the seed that is, its rare. Belladonna here in the wild is rare for that matter, mine, I sourced from happening to find a bush growing on a canal towpath whilst walking down it looking for Ergot fungus-parasitized wild ryegrass ears.

And if it would be helpful, I'd be happy to pilot your wheelchair/scooter or whatever you use for mobiity to wherever you need it to be if we were to meet up so as to save you the effort required for the strength output and save that valuable brain for its maximally unfried state :)

If its the only place your realistically ABLE to meet, then logic dictates that a meetup to see you takes place there.

:indeed:

Oh! I have a spare bedroom, since moving my bed downstairs, Pyraxis.    :eyelash:    I'll soon have two spare bedrooms (son doing the attempting-to-leave -home thing yet again) .
Come to think, if  you want to make more than a day of it, you could  avail yourself of the spare bedroom, Lestat.

You probably have to change trains at Birmingham,  Lestat. Mum lives in Preston, and that's what she's had to do when she's visited by train. The change at Brum  is freaking ghastly, cos Brum have a huge number of platforms and make you run from one platform to another at the drop of a pin.  Actually, the National Express buses are more convenient as well as cheaper.  Longer journey, though.   Oh! and the bus station is only a five minute walk from my house.

I'm afraid the present garden is only really ineresting for the obscene amout of trouble it's given me *chuckle* . I don't have a single unusual plant  in it.  But the stoery of how I eventually  turned it into a functional garden is someghing else....or, rather, I 'm  still turning it, I might say, cos I still have a l bit of the 10 cubic meters- or-so  of extraneous material  that I had to  dig out stacked at the bottom end. And yes, it's a tiny garden, only half the size of the previous, so the very fact that I found that much extraneous material in so small a space gives a bit of a clue as to how impossible it was.

Seeds would be welcome.  Not sure about the Belladonna, though.  My Social Conscience says "Hang on! I've got redcurrants growing here.  What if some future tenant were to put two and two together and assume that the Belladonna  is a blackcurrant bush?" .  Heck! That's all-too-possible , I fear.

You have a written sign with the name of the plant, or just a skull and crossbones, or the word 'poison'

That said, for a plant with a a name like 'deadly nightshade', the name itsef if written on paper and the paper put into a plastic pouch on a stick...should preclude somebody eating it.

If you'll help me plan the route I'd love to avail mysef of the chance to meet an illustrious lady such as your good self walkie :)
A spare bedroom?   I could have lived with just a section of floor that is A-dry and clean and B-located inside the house, roll up a coat and throw another one over me, now that is hospitality my dear and I've love to if we can come up with a route. I say we, I am terrible at this, I really am, the only times I've used trains its been set up outside my sphere of influence taking me to and from boarding school down southampton ways to be picked up there in one of the school minibus fleet and taken to the school. (I went to a speshul spazzer boarding school for aspies and the odd autie (me being one of the latter. A very odd one indeed :autism: ) Its great :D

And a few time seeing a now former girfriend years ago, who was a friend of another girl who went out with me, both of them NT, but the first finished with me and kinda passed me on to her friend. Both nice girls, not maliciously, it was not a using kinda thing, she just, she went to the effort to find me another GF, someone she knew, and a good lass, whilst we decided together it was too far, we weren't seeing each other often enough to be close enough, so she set me up with her friend, jessy, who was actually kinda hot for an NT. Blackpool, both of them. Shithole of the century and tacky turds round the sphincter's edge to boot.

And the first girl, well she didn't want to take it to the next level, one of her friends did. (and we did. Its fortunate that her parents did not walk into their lounge and see what was taking place on their sofas bwahaha) Still can't believe I did some of those things with someone that wasn't autistic or aspie or rett's, PDD-NOS etc, but damn, still fun the the two of us even if it didn't work longterm. :P

Godsdamn though her parents would have turned pretty pale at some of what took place. Woud have been funny to see the looks on their faces, and a spazz at that doing the things in question. In a 'shocked, much? well you can kiss my furry autistic arse mister and mrs. jessy', you can look away now, it might help you get some color back in your faces if you try that and put your fingers in your ears my good sir and ma'am.....

Everyone is probably very different because of the perspective of a text only interaction. Am personally very soft spoken and smiling. So, while the majority of my interaction with co-workers is via text, they still have phone and personal contact with me, so my text likely comes across as very different than it would to someone here.

There are quite a few here I would suck up the courage to meet though and I think I would really enjoy.

I have had the odd circumstance of meeting people who know and are quite comfortable with me
without me interacting with them much - or maybe only by a few forum posts.

It's odd. But those who are drawn to anything beyond recognition, I find I mesh quite well with.
Reinforces suspicions I had previously that those who accept me, I just generally feel comfortable around,
and that where MY personality sets people off is where the primary problem arises.

I'd meet a lot of people, here, although my first choices would be:

'Raxy

The PR, who I daresay I find truly irresistable, damn gorgeous, and who I would SOOOO be absolutely besides myself with delight if I ever had the privilege of spending time with her. If I did, and I was overseas, in the US, there is every possibility of my not coming back to the UK on a permanent basis, although of course I'd have to get my stuff, but otherwise... (and not forgetting you QV, I'd be honoured to meet her royal off color humourist and my friend)

Charlotte Quin,

Al
Odeon,
Walkie
Burning One (actually, me and Hannah go way back, we got in contact randomly through sheer luck on a non-spazz forum; and just never stopped talking, we were together for a while, and ever since we first talked via PM on this other forum she has become my very best, closest friend, I'd trust her with my life itself) Quite the little foxpot too, a real hottie, and I'd LOVE to get her here by my side. Actually, I'd happily offer my hand in marriage to her, I think we would, nay, I KNOW we would make a wonderful married couple, me and Hannah, a few adorable little autistic kiddos (kept well away from the tubs, pots, vials, cans and bottles of the various corrosive, poisonous, acidic, basic, stinky, carcinogenic, mutagenic, and just generally nasty chemicals, and all the delicate, fragile laboratory glassware and other equipment, of course), I just know that we'd make the perfect happy family

Ren. Of course, who wouldn't want to spend some time in the company of the ever lovely, bright and sparky Renster? anyone that wouldn't needs their head removing, so it can be thoroughly checked for loose screws rattling around inside, and then it putting back on, this time in the correct direction and screwing on properly.

Elle, I think, despite our differences, if the two of us actually met, and saw the parts of each other that don't appear when communicating solely via an internet connection (I mean, parts of the personality, here, not THOSE parts that neither of us show other people over the internet.)

Lit. We'd get on like a house on fire. And quite possibly several of them, including outbuildings, and quite a few vehicles suddenly detonating in a white-hot plume of molten metal. I've a distinct feeling much amusement would be had for both of us, were me and Lit to meet each other. Likely as not including such things as a 'whats the most unusual yet energetic thing you can nitrate, and how many nitro groups can you FIT on that molecule?'

Probably whilst fuelled by a few select molecules of my own, performing various different functions, but certainly doing a thorough job of social lubrication.

DFG, even though she did go a bit mental that time, shes a good person, and I like her. Quite attractive too actually.

I know she isn't a member anymore, but kassiane sibley/rettdevil. I'd give an awful lot to meet her, she is one of THE most wonderful, amazing, delightful, intellectually scintillating, drop-dead-sexy-as-FUCK, funny women I have ever known in my entire life. And if I ever got the chance to put a ring on her finger, you fucking bet your ass I would put one there the femtosecond the chance winked into existence.

Kassiane is just....WOW. Really takes my breath away with her sheer beauty, both that of her physical shell, and that of her mind. And I absolutely LOVE the talent she has, the way she has of snarking off; kassiane turns snark into a combination of an art form such as DaVinci could produce, only better, and a martial art :autism:

Plus, she is jaw-droppingly sexy when she hand-flaps and spins and rocks back and forth. OMFG...just..OMFG. What man on earth could fail to find the way kass rocks back and forth and hand-flaps unfuckingbelievably, deliciously sexy? She is, IMO as close to a goddess as its possible to get, with only my ex fiancee, cazzie (the younger of the two former fiancees, the 14yo sexpot and elemental force unto herself, her own personal shock-trooper of selfconfidence, strength, inner and outer fire and just, well, absolute sexiness) able to be on the same level of uberfox. My idea of a personal heaven would be a three-way marriage between me, cazzie and kassi, neither being loved less than the other, and both loved fully, with all my heart and soul. Yeah, I admit, I have it BAD for kassiane the rettdevil.

I've a friend from AFF I'd love to meet really badly too, Anya, aka Aliengirl, bright, very kind, sweet, very speshul and obviously so, with the sexy way she rocks back and forth holding her favourite stuffed toy on top of her head, the way she flaps her hands. She is caring, a smart girl, successful, IIRC she helped out with Gary McKinnon, the autistic hacker the US govt. wanted to extradite despite the fact he wouldn't survive in prison, and likely enough would have killed himself if jailed. So Aliengirl is a really good person, very caring, kindly, very, very attractive, I bet when she stims she makes those cute/sexy speshul ed kinda  noises as well as her foxy hand-flapping, spinning around, cute way auties repeatedly line up things like toys, stuffed animals they love, you get the idea anyway.

Because, well....I can't be the only person here who thinks the way auties pf the opposite sex rock back and forth, twirl around from side to side, jump up and down on the spot doing that sexy little hand-clapping thing, as well as the hand-flapping, lining things up, making those little kinda squeaking or moaning noises, surely I am not the only one here to find that one of THE sexiest things a girl can do?

Considering many probably here might know me better than a lot of people IRL do. I wonder if that would make it less awkward or more awkward than it normally is?
That's a good point. After so many years, some people may have revealed as much as they're ever going to. Like when married people run out of things to talk about.

Come to think of it, I'd like to meet you. Either we'd be mortal enemies or we'd just have a beer and a laugh. What do you think?

Nah, I don't think either of us would be the other's mortal enemy. I'd be up for a drink and a chat but yeah we'd possibly laugh it off or think the other a complete dickhead. We think that now so nothing lost , wost case situation

It's pretty much what I think, yes. So yeah, it'd probably be worth it.

Maybe I just prefer to think that way because the internet is creepy, and the idea of meeting internet people really creeps me out.

Seriously the whole meeting people is scary stuff for the reclusive spazzes among us. *points to self*

There are quite a few here I would suck up the courage to meet though and I think I would really enjoy.

More awkward, I'd think. I tend to rely on the written word more than what's actually said.

This thread is depressing. So many names I recognize and would love to meet, but most are gone.

Still waiting on odeon in DC.

Actually....instead of meeting folks. I would be down for writing letters, like a penpal. We could exchange rocks, feathers, drawings, sweets, snacks, et cetera.

Unfortunately I would be terrified to give out my home address. So we would have to make a drive and bury our letters at some secret GPS location, in a weather proof container, and send those coordinates to those who are near-ish.

Yup.  I could totally do that.

Jesse, perhaps. Al, definitely be a good night out on the town, I'm sure.

Rock hound...bet we'd have some interests in common there. DD-decent guy from what I can tell, I'd meet ya.

As for the ladies...walkie, CBC, of COURSE miss K and her four legged friends, and 'Raxy-absolutely. Renster...would love to meet you, that'd be delightful.

Elle, perhaps. We may have had differences, but what better way than to shed any lingering ones by actually knowing one another as people, rather than the portions of personalities which are projected in the form of a forum avatar. Intelligent sort, you seem,  I should think we could find things to have a good talk over, and go out for a few pints, perhaps?

Pike goes and I would love that.  I have met Parts in Portsmouth NH and that was great.  I would be willing to meet with just about anybody from here, but, that could be awkward or enlightening depending upon how the stars align.  And I do mean anybody!

What kind of dog did you have? I had a black growing up who had the worst farts and they were silent and deadly. Anytime we had company, he would casually walk into the living room, let one loose, and then casually leave again and you could see people fidgeting trying not to be rude, smelling the awfulness and wondering who did it, knowing it wasn't them.

My sister has an American Staffordshire. That's a different way of saying pitbull. All muscle and teeth. It is a really sweet rescue dog, but I still don't think they are an appropriate pet for most people. Her last dog was a huge Great Dane / Bull Terrier cross. At least she never has to worry about burglars.

I would love a German Shepherd but chances are we will get something small and cute and yappy in the new year.

I have known some adorable staffies. I tend to support BSL. There are too many irresponsible dog owners. I'd rather my neighbour be an irresponsible chihuahua owner or golden retriever owner than an irresponsible pitbull owner. I'd rather my kids got bitten by a cattle dog or a labrador than a pitbull. I just don't see why any suburban dog owner needs such a powerful dog.

I have over 25 years in animal rescue and the smaller dogs are the ones who are more prone to biting and I've seen some horrific bites from small dogs. Proper ownership should be placed on the owners, and not on a specific breed. My youngest dog is close to 100 lbs and she's only 8 months old. But proper training is vital for any dog of any size.

There will always be a dog who is the current target. In the past it's been German Shepherds, Dobermans and Rottweilers.

Blaming the dog ain't nuts. It's the obvious solution to an embarrassing situation.
Truth

As long as you don't shame the poor pooch.  :puppy:

Actually, our dog knew when he farted in front of us that it was 'wrong'.

You couldn't blame him when he didn't though. He knew whether he was guilty.
What kind of dog did you have? I had a black growing up

Oh...ours was canine.
Yeah it would help if I actually finished the sentence properly.

Think with small sized dogs it is because so many owners of small dogs don't think they need to train the critter, because they can lift it.

Behaviour of the dog shows the nature of the human. And to many humans with little dogs just don't want to see their dog as a proper dog. Just as an accessory on four legs.

Know someone with a Rhodesian Ridgeback as an assistant dog. She trained the magnificent beast herself. She's barely capable of anything, physically. But she knows how to train her dogs. Before this dog, she had black shepherd dogs. She still has the last black shepherd. He's semi retired. His task is now to feed her rabbit.

Then in that same street lives a woman with a "kutkeffertje". She can't control her 30 cm high dog, because she never thought it important. That wee critter now sometimes possess a danger to the woman with the Ridgeback. And the Ridgeback isn't allowed to intervene and defend his human, because then she won't be allowed to have him as a service dog anymore. Her command over the dog is that strong that indeed he will not intervene. Heel stand between her and the other dog, if his leash allows it, but nothing more.

Neighbor has had 3 terriers...last being some mega expensive rare pure-bred short legged variety that she traveled to another state to get as a puppy.

All 3 turned into monsters. Last one was the absolute worst...developed some form of dementia according to the vet. She had him on meds but I was still scared he was going to chew the hell out of her one day. She ended up with about 12 stitches and needing surgery to her hand last month.  :P

The big issue with people who lift up their little dogs to avoid conflict, are actually creating MORE conflict because dogs have similar social rules no matter their breed. When you lift a smaller dog up, above another dog, you've made the smaller dog more dominant and now you've created a bigger mess.

In my puppy's last training class there were all kinds of breeds and sizes. She resembles a big burly bear and there was a Basset Hound who looooooved her. We always had to keep them at opposite ends of the classroom or else he wouldn't look. He'd just casually try to wander over to her and if anyone stopped him he'd fall over and cry. Even if did trip over his own ears on his mad dash run to try and be by her side again. It was hilarious.

I am very very bothered by the relationship humans have with dogs.

Not saying the dog doesn't like it, but it's essentially a mastery.
I think the biggest worry is the effect on the human.

I can't think of another pet that has this same problem - even if it ends up in the stew pot.

I am very very bothered by the relationship humans have with dogs.
Have lived my whole life around pets, but they were always other people's pets. Have only once ever sought to acquire an animal on my own, and it made me realize why I had never done it before. It's strange due to having no issues with being a meat eater, yet have an ethical struggle with owning animals.

For me, it's only dogs. There are other working animals (horses ect) whose relationship
seems more appropriate to one of domination. There are other pets who show a form
of love (cats, birds), but they are not dominated. Something seems inherently unhealthy
to the unconditional love that a dog gives. To me, it's very similar to what I expect we'll
be seeing with robots in the near future.

I've been pondering this since you wrote it and on one hand can definitely see what you're saying. It made me consider my own relationships with my dogs and I think there's more balance of meeting each others needs than most have with their dogs but one can't override the neuroscience in how a dogs brain reacts to the odor of their favourite people. The same reward centre in their brain lights up just as humans do. And outside of primates, they're the only animals who consistently seek out eye contact from humans.

I am very saddened that you feel this way.
I think if you get a puppy, you will grow some and you will have a best friend for life. Since you are a little bit more intelligent than a dog, it falls to you to make sure that both your needs are met.
Once you get to know a dog well, you will begin to know how deeply ingrained a dog's pack instinct is and witnessing pack behavior first hand you may come to know that you are not really a master, but a leader of their pack. They do worship the leaders of their packs, even lick their leaders' junk and assholes, but only so long as that leader continues to do everything the other members of the pack need.

Dogs ARE faithful. You have to kind of fuck up to lose a dog's faith.  The same goes for any leader of a dog pack.

Stop trying to make them humans and projecting your human horrors upon them. They are dogs. They are fine living as a part of a pack.

Abuse would enhance the insecurity, of course.

My dog is very suspicious of outsiders by her very nature. It's a well-known characteristic of the breed. I'm not exactly sure why this is, but it means we constantly have to train her to cope.

And this particular individual feels more than a little autistic. She came to the right place.

After thinking a bit more about your previous post, I do get your point a little better. I can not find a way to agree fully, except in some extreme cases, like possibly "coming under the spell" of a loving dog could contribute to complicating day by day management of some of the difficulties inherent to narcissism.
I feel that what you fear might be true in only some of the more troubled individuals, though.

I still wonder if a great dog might offer a small trickle stream to harmlessly dump some of those narcissistic tendencies with very little recourse to consistent management and no harm to the dog.

I feel that most people can handle being within the "love dome"  of a dog without any ill effects.
Narcissism would be the exception.

Sorry, pal. I may not have looked at your post carefully enough to respond to your meaning, as I already have demonstrated a tendency to do many times on this board.
I tend to want to help and sometimes, even without knowing the whole story.

I'm not worried about the edge cases here; the psychos. I'm worried about the normal folk. But, obviously,
we've long had dogs as pets (not just working dogs), and it's baked into what we are. More a symptom
of something very disturbing in humanity to me. And one which, when faced with that love, is so easy
to ignore.

But...it seems wrong. I can't even really put my finger on it. Like, a need that
just shouldn't be there. Not parenthood; not a meeting of equals; not a tool;
almost a toy, whose emotions are dependent on you.

I've never really been a dog person. I can't really explain it, other than that are so....full of social spoons. Way, way too full of social spoons.

I'm  a cat person, I always have been, given the choice between the two, I'd take  a moggie any day. The  four legged furry kind  I mean. A lot of time spent with a dog, would probably leave me wanting a couple of the kind of  moggies  that come as round, white beveled disks with a score line down the middle in  a shallow 'v' shape. And then to crawl under the duvet and get comfy on my sofa.Without any canine pestering.

I have  had a dog,  once. When I was really young. The dog in question, renamed Sasha, a black and tan skinny something or other. Looked  like what you'd get if you had  the colours of a rotteweiler or dobermann, black and tan, with the breed of a whippet or greyhound.Only not quite so lean and thin, not when  healthy, as a greyhound, but still very gracile. Not sure if  it was a breed, or like calandale, and just a mongrel :tard:

But she was  way, way too thin. Like a fucking stick,  something nobody ever threw her but me, I'm damn sure of that much.   Because the bastards who 'owned' her just chucked  her  out on the street to fend for herself all  day, and  sometimes let her 'home' some nights.

I wonder if they even knew I'd nicked their dog, befriended her, then fucked off with her once she  trusted me, never to return again to those fucking  shiteating swine. I'm really not a dog person. BUT, I just WILL NOT stand for it, when it comes to animal cruelty and/or neglect.  Fuck no. I have a very, very short fuse when it comes  to animal abusers, and if it blows, things can get ugly pretty damn quickly.

Anyhow, I spent time getting her to trust me, making sure I brought food  for her where she had none otherwise, so she hadn't the need to scavenge in desperation. Water, of course, clean and decent. Then got her a new collar and nametag, trained her to respond to a new given name, and brought her home.  Yes, it was bald-faced, outright theft. If one considers an animal 'property', I don't, not in that sense. Although that doesn't mean I'd not take it out on someone for stealing or harming a pet of mine. I see them not as owned THINGS, but companions, or else if its a pet of a kind that doesn't comprehend much less ever exhibit companionship, then an interesting creature to me, who's welfare and needs I choose to take upon myself to fulfill in return for providing me with interest in science and observation. (NOT vivisective type science, but their habits, things like venom chemistry and potential uses of their venom or constituents in the case of venomous animals.)

Kayleigh and I haven't bought any of our three cats. They've either been unwanted or stray.

And QV, I'm pretty sure I don't look like Wonder Woman! Have always thought that Eclair might have that look though.

Nope. You forgot cats.
Cat's use eye contact differently though and communicate more with the rest of the of their body language vs their eyes.

I think that maybe the instinctive hyper-predatory nature of cats makes them a unique case.
I do know that cats I have known only a few dozen or so, so a small sampling of nature, always use their eyes to communicate, even among each other. I had one kitten that could scare off a hoard of hungry cats, even fully adult ones, from a community feeding area with just his eyes. I few months later the same with a calico female. Tiny kittens controlling a huge bunch of cats with their eyes.

My cat will sit for half an hour while I am doing things and her gaze never shifts- I can see her in my peripheral vision and as soon as I look intently at her she will ask for her turn to what ever she wants all with just her eyes. Of course once she has my attention, she will bring in all her other faculties to make her case and lobby for her wants being met.

I am not so sure that any other non-predatory animals do this kind of thing. Dogs and cats though are intently attuned to humans they live with and they know how to "train us"  in some ways to get what they want.

Eclair is delicious!

I couldn't find the thread for I2 members you have actually met so here goes.

I met Calandale in early August and spent the day hanging out and drinking with him.

I also spent a few minutes with him at his house. He lives in an A framed house that it totally glassed in on the eastern side and is on a hill. The views from there are so spectacular you wouldn't believe it!! You can see most of the southern Willamette Valley on a clear day.

Anyways, we hopped from brewery to brewery sampling the best local beers along with some imports. We talked about a whore range of subjects but concentrated on historical and philosophical topics.

All and all he's a pretty interesting guy to hang out with.

O_o

Sounds great, wish I could have been there. I probably would have talked about something else but that's just me.

Was that a Freudian slip?

I've seen a video of Calandale's house and it looked pretty cool. I wouldn't mind living in a place like that.

Edit: Mosw got in before me, heh.

Yeah, Cal has an awesome house. I don't remember him saying that the views were that nice.

I've never seen a video that shows the view to the east from the inside but maybe I missed it.

It showed mostly the inside of the house, not the view. I imagine cleaning all that glass would be hard work!

This video shows the east side of the house but you can't really get any of the view.

I still think we should have a big shindig and all haang out. We could even just do a virtual party, like Zoom or something.

We couldn't get over the time zone gap.  :P

We couldn't get over the time zone gap.  :P
not exactly. it was more like the time zone gap was raised...
....and it transpired that no-one could be arsed to try and work out a decent compromise  and host the thing .  i wou;dn't exactly blame the time zone gap for that though  more of a case of "Oh?  there's a bit of a hurdle here? sorry guys, i'm a sprinter not a jumper", whch was already a pre-existing problem .

My take on the time-zone issue is this:  a bunch of folk who are mostly working at ho,e, worjing irrefular hours  or else not working at all;  and who (mostly)  can't keep regu;ar sleeping hours;  meeting at stupid oçlock (for some time zones)  shouldn;t be that much of a problem .Ii think it should be a damned sight easier than trying to organise an RL meeting in Britain, for example.  That loses the time zone problem , but without losing the problem that different folk have different schedules. and gains the problem that travel takes time, costs money and public transport freaks some of us out. Turns out here's no working out a compromise between hard-presssed folk who won;t venture outside London and drivers who  (very sensibly) won't venture inside London. etceteras , etceteras.

I've personally tried that one. Twice, It was a roaring sucess with a different group, but I just had tp throw in the towel with our bunch, once it came rto the point that i clear;y couldn't get more than two people to agree on anything at all.

I think what i'd do with this one is pick out the folk who had the least wiggle-room  (eg Pyraxis : sngle parent with a toddler , full-time job and babysitter  problems, living in Canada) find out what times thry can make it, and maybe set up two alternate meetings based round their needs; then hope and trust that the rest of us could, if interested enough. manage  come in on on one or even booth ogf those alternatives. And if not, tough.  Can't please everyone, wouldn't even try to please everyone, not again.

But I figure it was definitely someone e;se's turn now, and nobody volunteered.

I almost softened , TBH,  but have since been persauded that a paid Zoom account is needed for hosting. Which costs getting on for 12 GBP per month  :o.  I'm not sure, TBH. I've been at a few meetings where Zoom decided, when it came to it,  to extend the host's free 40 minutes indefinitely . I've never been at a meeting where Zoom c;osed it at the end of that 40 minutes.  Have heard people say ït's not a problem when that happens, you just start a new meeting" but, h,mmm,  well,  that's another hurdlefor our delicate, thoroughbred sprinters to baulk at, isn;t it?  So if aybody has a paid zoom account already...? I, for one, really can't afford that 12 GPB per month.

Nope, no paid Zoom account here.
