Title: I ask MCalavera, you can too!
Post by: "couldbecousin" on April 14, 2011, 07:22:57 AM
Hi again MCalavera, you stated in the "Useless trivia" thread that you used to be a fundamentalist Christian, and have only been out of that religion
for a year and a few months. Were you raised in it, how did you decide to leave, and do you practice any form of religion today?   :chin:

Hi again MCalavera, you stated in the "Useless trivia" thread that you used to be a fundamentalist Christian, and have only been out of that religion

Cool idea of a thread, CBC. And good start.

Nothing dramatic, really. Just some simple Greek/Roman Orthodox dude who got sucked into extreme Christianity thanks to some fundamentalist Christian neighbor couple. It was around 5-6 years ago when it all started (can't remember exactly). I was having personal problems with my father, with relatives, with school, with social life, with girls (well, I still have most of those issues actually), along with deep confusion about my identity and my existence, and I think all those are what had led me to "give up and come to Christ" ...

Actually, let me just copy/paste what I wrote on WP (Jan 29, 2011) and just make things more interesting for you to read and much easier for me to give you a satisfying answer. Just keep in mind that I carelessly said I started believing around 10 years ago when in fact it was slightly less than that now that I've given it a good thought.

Anyway, below is the post.

***

Alrighty, for those interested after seeing some of my posts here in this section, here's my post that explains why I'm no longer a believer in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and why I'm now a secularist (specifically a secular theist/deist). My purpose from this post is to not only explain why I no longer believe but to also show why it's not reasonable to believe in Jesus Christ (or any religion or cult for that matter).

But first let me give a very brief explanation of how I became a Christian at one stage. Basically, I was lost and confused, lacking emotional support and encouragement from anyone around me. Then along came a Christian family (my neighbors) preaching to me the Gospel and giving me CDs and DVDs of Christian stuff for me to watch and listen to. Being a curious guy who was looking for God and religion at the time, I asked them questions about God, the Bible, and Christianity in general ... and they did their best to answer my questions. They had me pray with them. They invited me to their house. They convinced me that they were a loving and peaceful family. They considered me a brother. They gave me a big Bible as a gift. They introduced me to their pastor and to the local church. My family got along with them well. And then I watched "The Way of the Master" series with them. That was when I eventually started to believe in the Gospel. And, thus, I submitted myself to Jesus Christ and put my faith in Him.

The Gospel is one of the most powerful messages that man has ever preached to his fellow man. Whether it's true or not, it is psychologically so powerful that, when described with the right words, can make many intelligent people who are looking for any hope in heaven to take such a message seriously and possibly believe.

What is the Gospel according to Christianity? First of all, the word "Gospel" is an English adaptation of the Greek word for "Good News". It is called the Gospel (Good News) because it is about the supposedly good news that, no matter how badly you've sinned against God and how much you've angered God with your sins and how much you deserve hell, God supposedly loved you so much that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to this world around 2000 years ago to die on the cross for you and pay the full price for your sins. That way, by putting your faith in the one who died for you, you become saved by grace through faith and become a born again Christian living a life of holiness for God through Jesus by the Holy Spirit that supposedly resides in you once you believe.

When understood properly, it can be so convincing that almost any vulnerable person (regardless of his intelligence) would want to believe such a pleasant message that Jesus Christ died for him and, thus, become a Christian. It gives you a feeling of assurance and security by thinking that God has it all handled for you and that all you have to do is believe that God can save you completely through Jesus Christ alone. You no longer have to try to vainly do good in order to please God and make God see how much you deserve heaven. Christianity, with its Gospel, is unlike any religion out there. And so it's quite unique compared to other religions ... which is why I was so attracted to Christianity and to the main man of Christianity - Jesus Christ. The day I was converted to Christ was one of the best days of my life. It was a day of joy for me. It was like heaven. And the feeling I had at the time was so wonderful and so sincere that it lasted for a while (around a couple of months). Back then, I sincerely believed that Jesus Christ was the only one worthy to be my lord and savior.

And it's not just about the good feeling of having an omnipotent being to completely rely on for my salvation, the whole local church was quite nice and pleasant to me in the beginning, and they made me feel so special (something that I had never experienced before), that it seemed like a big confirmation to me that Christianity can't be but true and that Jesus Christ can't be but God.

It was a great feeling.

Unfortunately, it didn't last forever. In two months, I was already intellectually back to how I was before I professed Jesus Christ. The feeling that one also gets from being high on drugs was already gone. I was already starting to have doubts about my faith. However, I was already deeply rooted within Christainity that, despite everything, I stayed a Christian for quite a few years (around 10 years), preaching the Gospel to the "lost" and passionately defending the faith. Like a typical Christian with autism, I was so into the Bible (supposedly God's written word) that only a select few around me knew more about the Bible than I did. I was into refuting claims of alleged contradictions in the Bible. I was into explaining the message of salvation by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone to all the cultists I argued with over the Internet. And I had a lot of fun arguing with all the "angry" atheists and seculars out there, arrogantly thinking that they were so lost in their godlessness that they could never convince me of any of their views. I argued with them about evolution, about quantum physics, and about the age of the universe, relying on pure creationist propaganda to support my views. I even typed Christian articles and submitted them to a certain Christian blog site. It was all so much fun to me.

But despite it all, I never truly believed (aside from the first two months as a professing Christian). I had no problem being intellectually dishonest. I had no problem spreading disinformation about evolution and about secular scientific discoveries in general. I had no problem purely relying on the Bible for all my answers to every question and allegation thrown at me for me to answer and respond to. It was all a game to me. And I'm sure that, for many Christian apologists out there, it is also all a game to them. They just don't want to admit it to anyone ... including themselves.

And let's not forget about the burden of having to go to church every Sunday ... or else they start to look down on you and think you're walking according to the flesh instead of the Spirit. Personally, I HATED going to church. It was a chore. Not because I didn't enjoy listening to the pastor preach. But because it was too social for me to handle every single week. Actually, I never was interested in the company of other Christians much. And anyway, they were starting to act like almost any other group of people I've interacted with. They no longer looked "born again" to me. But that's ok. All I wanted, as a Christian, was to read and study the Bible and do a lot of research on evolution, on cults, on secularism, and so on. I just didn't enjoy the social bit much.

Oh, and prayer? That, too, was a chore. I just didn't know what to say to God back when I was a Christian. All the other Christians had no problem knowing what to say to God within a short amount of time, but me? I struggled a lot with prayer that I only ever prayed out loud once in public ... and let's just say that it was the most embarrassing Christian moment in my life.

What else was a problem for me? Right! As a single Christian, I couldn't help lusting for girls. Jesus failed to help me stop lusting (as he promised), so I had to handle this one myself. I tried this and that, but nothing worked. Which really got me depressed. I wanted to convince myself that I was truly "born again" but my lusts were always giving me doubts about my "born again" nature.

Eventually, I just said to myself: STUFF IT! I started reading articles written by atheists, scientists, and scholars about God, science, philosophy, the Bible, etc. I found that many of them made so much sense to me that I finally had my mind open up after all these times and admit to myself that Christianity is nothing but a lie and a waste of time. After being a secular in the closet for a few months, I am now proud to admit to almost every person I know that I no longer believe. It was in the middle of last year (2010) that I stopped being a Christian. Smile

Now, I will list reasons why I no longer believe (in no particular order):

1. There is no conclusive evidence pointing to Yahweh/Jesus being the true God and Creator. Even if this universe could not but have been created by the Creator, what makes you think that Yahweh/Jesus is that Creator? Is it because the Bible tells you so? Or is there a clear sign out there that Yahweh/Jesus is God? If there is, then where is it? I could never find one conclusive evidence. It has always been by blind faith.

2. There is no conclusive evidence pointing to the Bible being God's written word. Not one. There is no advanced scientific knowledge in the Bible that the Jews could not have had access to in any normal way. There is no advanced psychological knowledge in the Bible. There is no advanced mathematics. There is nothing to clearly show that the Bible was inspired by a divine source. Nothing. Prophecies? Don't make me laugh. They're either too vague ... or they count on you to do complicated mathematical equations using numbers that you yourself have to make up. And, no, Jesus didn't fulfill the Messianic prophecies perfectly. A lot of stuff had to be made up concerning him in the New Testament. And even then, they couldn't make his character fulfill them all in their writings.

3. Psychology is another reason why I no longer believe. Look at all the psychopaths and the extreme narcissists out there. Psychology tells us that such people lack empathy, compassion for others, and none of them has a clear conscience. Thus, they can never personally change without the assistance of advanced psychological treatments (which have yet to be discovered). So how can God hold them accountable for their deeds if they can't help being the way they are? Sure, within our human societies, we continue to have such people punished if they commit crimes, but that's only so that other people may be protected from them. However, when you think about it, shouldn't God take full responsibility for their actions? After all, they can't help doing the things they do because of who they are by nature. So someone else has to take responsibility for the actions of such disturbed people? Who else should it be other than the omnipotent God himself? Surely, we can't blame a limited human being (who has no power over psychopaths) for such actions! Only God supposedly has the power. So where is he?

4. How can God allow a child to be cut to pieces by a sick man? How can God allow children to die of starvation? How can God allow people to die horrific deaths when disaster strikes? Why the earthquakes? Why the tsunamis? What about the poor animals that end up being slaughtered for our own survival? Why did he make it in a way that we need to eat animal meat in order to function properly and survive? Doesn't God care about any of us? Is this world just a joke to the supposedly loving God? That's another reason why I can't believe that a loving and compassionate God exists. Oh, and free will sounds like an excuse made up by religious theists to explain away the existence of pain and suffering in this world. Yeah, sure, as if humans have the free will to cause earthquakes and tsunamis ...

5. The idea that hell exists is a big indicator that God, who supposedly set it up, cannot be loving and compassionate. Why the hell would such a god create such a nightmarish place for any limited being? Just imagine what it would be like to suffer pain and agony forever and ever. Why not just wish us away from existence if God doesn't like us? If his ego is so big, he can just have us punished temporarily in hell and then wish us away from any form of existence after our terms of divine punishment have been served. But why the need to act like such a sadist? Insecurity? Which brings me to my next point ...

6. Yahweh sounds just like an angry narcissistic human in power! There is nothing divine about his character. When angry, he kills people (including babies and young children and animals). He has narcissistic rages as you can tell from his words in the Bible. He claims to be merciful and forgiving and patient, but his actions often show otherwise. He demands that he be worshiped and even experiences extreme jealousy when other gods are worshiped. Damn! He sounds like a big baby to me! And you call him God?

7. When taken literally, the Bible contradicts current scientific discoveries. If the Bible is from God, then why do the current scientific discoveries contradict what the Bible says about the age of the universe, the age of this planet, the age of mankind, the origins of humans and animals, and so on? What's going on?

And of course, there are far more reasons, like internal contradictions within the Bible (who is Joseph's father?) and other stuff.

And so ... that is why I just cannot believe anymore. It would only make me feel intellectually dishonest by continuing to profess such a blind faith.

Now, I am happier and more comfortable with myself than I ever was before. I no longer feel trapped by the doctrines of hell and sin like many Christians are. I no longer have to wonder whether I should play video games or not, whether this movie is good for me to watch, whetherthis book is ok for me to read and enjoy. I no longer have to go to church. I no longer have to waste time praying. I no longer have to wait for marriage in order to have sex. I no longer have to feel shame for feeling lust for women. I no longer have to be intellectually dishonest.

I am now totally and completely free.

And I hope the same for all Christians who, deep inside, want to get out of the Christian prison that they're in. I would love you to have the same feelings and freedom that I currently have. Because nothing can be better and more relieving than being free from dogma and all that sh**.

That's why I'm posting here.

I can now appreciate the universe the way it actually is. And I accept the fact that this universe will always have mysteries for us to solve no matter how far we go with our scientific discoveries. I no longer have to blindly fill in any gaps using the Christian god.

Cheers.

The main christian religion here is 'church of england'  which always makes me laugh when
i think how it originated.   Good old King Henry VIII  found himself in a bit of a fix when the
pope (most of UK were catholics back then) wouldn't grant Henry a divorce from Catherine
of Aaragon.  He so badly wanted to put his dick in Anne Boleyn that he just fucked catholosism
off and formed his own church  -  Church of England, or C of E as it's so comonly written.

What was the name of your christian religion?  reason i ask is your comments regarding 'lusting
after women'    -  i didn't think any of the christian religions require you to be celibate.  Apart
from Catholics who are joining the priesthood.

So i am a bit confused as to why you couldn't lust after women.   Plenty of young christian men
here lust after women - difference is i suppose they get laughed at more? :dunno:

Just to let you know you're not alone in the religious toss-up.  I was raised Roman Catholic, started to convert to Judaism in my 30's, married a Lutheran and have a Lutheran daughter, practice Judaism as much as I can and am the Supreme Governor of the Church of England on this forum.  This site is definitely not for the weak of heart or knees or those without a sense of humour.

Ah, well, each has his own interpretation of what the Bible says. In the fundamentalist group I was in (it had no name to it actually), the verse where Jesus said that "if you look at a woman with lust, that's adultery at heart", that was taken literally.

Yes, it's frustrating. There was this one sweet Christian girl whom I always wanted to put my dick in, but good ol' Jesus was always there watching every move of mine and getting me paranoid. Now I'm a :viking: and don't allow any imaginary buddy of mine to dictate my way of thinking and living.

It's really Alex Plank, the ultimate hyper feminist and sexist dictator, who is making me think that way. If only it was worth calling him out here

If you do call him out, I know of several members who would back you up.

I'm sure there are, but I just don't want to waste bandwidth just honoring him with a callout if I know he won't reply. He doesn't even respond properly in his own forum ... :thumbdn:

I think he might be a member here. You could try PMing him and seeing if he responds

Do you think that your fundamentalist Christian upbringing might play a role in your Male Persecution Complex?

I don't understand what you mean here. Please elaborate for me.

So, im going to go with that.

Hi MCavalara,   sorry we seemed to get of to a strange start as I was trying to solicit nudes from you. I  was a little drunk, so i promise that wont happen again.

a question ?

hmmm

The first question I usually as guys is "how submissive are you" but that isnt very appropriate

so, instead ill lead with

"do you like Pabst Blue Ribbon, or Heineken "

(very very important q)

When you were a practicing Christian did you believe the Athanasiun Creed of Holy Trinity?

Yes, I actually believed that one. I was even arrogant enough to think I had it all figured out logically. :o

What kind of life was I living?
That is one that never made sense to me, particularly since it is not in the bible and was taken from worship of Baachus Baal, his wife and first son. More christian churches believe it than not though. Have you ever heard of the Taize Community? http://www.taize.fr/en_rubrique8.html (http://www.taize.fr/en_rubrique8.html) The man who founded it smuggled jews and other wanted people out of fascist France for several months of occupation until he got high up on the Carlingue's wanted list, then he high tailed it back to Switzerland until after the Liberation. He was  :viking: I respect him. I attended a Taize service in London @ St Martin in the Fields.

It's ok, Eris. I forgive you. Just don't feel too bad about it, lol.

In answer to your question, I've never tried Pabst Blue Ribbon but I've tried Heineken. It's alright, but I'm not addicted to the taste of any beer/alcohol.

I'd rather have soft drink unless I want to act cool and badass in front of my buddies or they insist that I drink.

I'll also answer your other question about submissiveness. No, I don't consider myself to be submissive much. I don't do BDSM in any form and I like to be in control when it comes to romantic relationships (but without dominating or manipulating). I do, however, have deep respect for certain people (men or women) with certain moral values/standards to whom I look up to. Not sure if that's considered submissive, however.

Thanks for the link. Never heard of them.

As for the doctrine of the Trinity, it's actually a result of the early Church fathers attempting to reconcile the difficulties and discrepancies found in the accepted Scriptures concerning the nature of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. That's why it ends up being illogical.

I'm sure Baachus Baal (or whatever the name is) and his wife and first son were considered as three distinct and separate members.

Haha, very creative. +1 for you, sir.

As for my impressions of I2:

Initially, I had this idea that I2 was a dangerous place and only for those brave enough to venture through its various regions full of traps, pitfalls, mine bombs, and wicked monsters and ghouls. I thought I was fucking crazy for even taking just one step into this forum.

Turns out that, while it is a forum with some tough guys and some dominating women, almost all (if not all) the members here are pleasant to interact with and a lot of the posts here are very interesting to read, many of which you don't get to read on a forum like WP due to censorship issues and such. Members have much more freedom here than on WP (a big plus for me).

And about my impressions now, I find you guys even more pleasant to be with than before. You're like one big family to me.

Well, ok, maybe not to that extent. But I do enjoy the company here to the point that it's like family. And this is a good thing to me.

Oh, boy. Some ... interesting questions. My answers are going to be boring, but here they go:

I don't have n00dz especially online. Imagine my family members stumbling upon them online. Not cool at all, lol.

I used to have semi n00dz on my computer but not anymore. They got wiped out when I decided to format the disk. And no, I don't have a webcam at the moment.

Fetishes: Not really. I'm plain vanilla when it comes to such matters.

6 pack: Not anymore. I have a beer belly these days. Too much coke and meat.

Bi Curiosity: I don't remember ever having such a thing.

Shemales: No, thanks. I'm not a big fan of chicks with dicks (with all due respect).

Oh, and squids. I love squids. Especially squids like you.  :)

Alex made her an administrator and she handled things badly.  She stealth banned several people by sneakily changing their passwords and when Alex put some of the passwords right again, she deleted the person's account and all their posts, which is a big no-no on WP.

Then Alex shouldn't have been so careless with this matter. You can't just assign any assistant administrator who seems old enough to be wise and expect him/her to handle the situation fairly.

And according to DW a mom, sinboldly did things she thought were right and didn't like making those decisions but felt she had to. I don't remember her exact wording.

If that is what she thought, that just shows how deluded she was and how unstable she was as a mod. And I can remember her saying herself they can't delete accounts but she deleted mine and my husbands and I assume she deleted that Spokane account too which I don't even care about because it was never mine in the first place. I am sure she deleted that other account too someone opened using my Benny & Joon avatar.

Fascinating.  I don't think I have heard that story before.

DW and I talk occasionally in PM and based on what DW told me, if sins really did think she had to do all that shit, it just shows how mentally unstable she was. I am just thinking "wow."

Sometimes I keep putting more pieces together. Heck even maku said something similar about her too and said he had always supported her and didn't think she should have been demodded for her decision even if it was a mistake she made. But he sided with her and turned against me.

Even a former WP member who was also a victim of having her password changed by her told me she must have had a reason for deleting mine and that upset me because it when you say that about someone, it sounds like the other person deserved it and it was a right thing to do what the person did to them. It's something parents say to their kids about their teachers like "Your teacher must have had a very good reason for keeping you inside from recess" or "Your babysitter must have had a very good reason for giving you a time out?" because they agree with the decision the teacher or baby sitter did. So when Emor said that to me, it totally upset me. Then she told me like two weeks later that is not what she meant and she meant sins must have had a reason for herself why she did it, not that it was a right thing to do. And technically everyone has a reason for doing stuff, even bullies have a reason for picking on their victims. She must have looked at it that way as that. There really is no such thing as "for no reason" but I think it's a phrase for the reason was invalid, unreasonable, bogus.

The ladies already have one on WP. The men's forum MLA mentioned is simply a response to the lack of one on WP (even though there's been some demand for it).

For those interested, here's the link:

http://menandautism.freesmfhosting.com/

And in answer to MLA, I'm using Free SMF Hosting for the time being. But if it does end up being successful, I'll be sure to grab a good domain name for it and have it hosted on HostGator.

What is the web address of your new Aspie forum for discussing "Men's Issues"?  Who are you using to host it?

Details to be revealed soon.

You're seriously starting an Aspie Men's Issues forum?

But won't that leave out the ladies?

The ladies already have one on WP. The men's forum MLA mentioned is simply a response to the lack of one on WP (even though there's been some demand for it).

For those interested, here's the link:

http://menandautism.freesmfhosting.com/

And in answer to MLA, I'm using Free SMF Hosting for the time being. But if it does end up being successful, I'll be sure to grab a good domain name for it and have it hosted on HostGator.

I will join. I can not guarantee volume but I can guarantee ball and all opinions (so to speak) if you are after brutal honesty. If not let me know

Brutally honest or not, I welcome all opinions especially yours. I wouldn't want it to be a forum of PC bull anyway.

The key is to get each member who joins (for the time being) to post at least one post worth addressing for the initial success of the forum (if we want it to get going, that is).

But it will have some rules that I will put up soon so that members don't keep going beyond the main purpose of the forum and mistake it for I2 or something. I'll soon add a link there to I2 for those looking for a forum like this.

Squiddy, don't be shy. Join us if you can handle it. :autism:

Well, you probably will have to control the flirting bit if you want to participate there. It's meant to be a forum with a serious tone (while allowing for a bit of fun and joking around).

But hey, I never said it's for straight males only. Anytime you wish to join, feel free to do so.

It will provide  'ladspeak'  which is a language in it's own right.  It is 'universal'  and very adaptive.  can even be understood by 'one of the lads'  after 25 pints of watery council estate beer!

sorry, i am just joking -  good luck with your new 'men's' forum

What statement?  You are starting to come across as though you are of the opinion that I spend a lot of time thinking about you and targeting you.  Including today, the day you posted that video, and the day I spent joking around about it, you have entered my mind a total of 3 times.

I was going to join MCalavera's forum up until he started appointing moderators.  My position at WP often makes me a target for some unsavory types with certain skill-sets.  Posting anything to that forum gives all current moderators (and any future moderators) access to my IP address.  Considering that one of the current moderators on that site is a previously banned WP member who was allowed back on probation (and these things NEVER work out in the end) it seemed prudent for me to keep my IP address out of the hands of anyone who will eventually be pissed off at me.  With a member to moderator ratio of 3:1 there could very quickly be a large number of moderators so my choosing not to join can actually be viewed as an endorsement of your site's growth potential

Anyhoo, You do not have to worry about the IP address issue. I can not see anybody's IP address, not even my own. The mod position at the men's forum is different from the mod position at WP. At WP you are essentially a cop, at the men's forum, i'm a janitor. You enforce rules, I clean up spam. See where i'm going with this? I don't think you target me at all. You have entered my mind twice, once bcause of that blog issue, and another time to get a clarification about a statement that you made about YouTube. I try to stay clear of you guys unless I have a concern or if I have to make a report. Hope that helps.

Also, from what I read about the issue with Boo. I think that he had a falling out with QM, and QM pulled a power move by banning him. I could be wrong though.

MCalavera, I wonder if we should put the link in our sigs like we did at WP. Guys, if you say you are going to join, please join. MLA, I know you were just breaking my balls with that statement.

Just for clarification, I think MCalavera is the only one that can see IP addresses on the men's forum.

This place seems to be running quite well without Mods. I remember someone telling me that the only bannable offense is putting the site in danger.

I added the link to the ASD websites links thread in AS Advocacy.

There is such a spot on the earth, but it might take a while for you to think of it.  Don't worry, I'll wait.

Don't try to work it out on paper, just think of the earth and what it means to go south, east and north on the earth.

No way. It can't be that easy.

Give it some thought.  You travel a mile south, then a mile east, then a mile north, and wind up back at your starting point.

I'll ask you the next question now, but I would ask that everyone else please give you as much time as you need to think of the answer yourself this time.

Is that the only possible solution?

So,  can you tell me why did the chicken cross the road?

Because of a psychological disorder she had. I don't know the label exactly, but I do know that she must have issues. Or else why cross the damn road when you could just stay warm and cozy in your own hut, sleeping and farting and laying eggs all the while knitting and chattering with other hens and flirting and having sex with some hung roosters while she's at it.

Yeah, I know what you mean. My father was a butcher, and I used to see him slaughter bulls and goats and sheep every day when I was a little kid.

It can be a bit saddening to see their throats cut and blood coming out while they're still barely living and struggling. But shit, they taste so good I couldn't help thinking how good they will taste once cooked. Maybe I am a psychopath.

Heh, I don't like all those things either. Except Vegemite, I do like that. Especially the cheesy Vegemite sort, I have that in sandwiches.

So I gather you are from Australia? What part? I am from the West.

Unlike the vegetables/fruit I mentioned, I can't stand Vegemite at all. First (and only) time I ate (or should I say tried to eat) some, I knew before having a taste of it that I not only wasn't going to like it, but I was going to be disgusted by the taste of it. And it turned out i was right. I almost threw up that day. So I would not want to imagine a cheesy version of it. :zombiefuck:

However, I do like eating a sandwich of Peanut Butter and Jam mixed together even though others around me find it gross.

Oh, and I currently live in Melbourne. I've noticed many Aspies (here and on WP) are from Australia but only a few from Melbourne. I did meet one guy from WP, though. Was an interesting and insightful day.

I like Chicken, Cows, Pigs, Turkeys and .....well any animals that taste nice on a couple of buns with a bit of lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise.

I guess that is not quite the same thing though huh?  :-\

beef with lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise ... damn, now I'm hungry, lol

I used to work in an abattoir. You get a slightly different perspective of animals :)

By the way, ever eaten goat balls? I don't know what I was thinking when my father had me eat some with him. :autism:

I honestly wish I liked vegetables more , so I could switch to vegetarian, especially after reading that post  :zombiefuck:

Front as I like to take the lead in such situations, but only on the condition that the partner behind me can be trusted.

Otherwise ... BACK is the only option!

Don't take it seriously. I'm just joking.

But since we're on about men's forum, just thought I'd let the guys here know that we moved the forum to the following URL address:

http://www.menandautism.com/

So now there's more flexibility and a shoutbox added. But need to move it to the bottom soon to make the forum not look so weird.

Unless I was drunk or something, that can't be me. I wish it was.

And I'm Greek Orthodox not Greek. Sometimes it's called Roman Orthodox, but I'm no Roman either. At least not as far as I know.

Although I do wish to go to Greece one of these days.

By the way, if what you're looking are posts made by me in a religion forum as a former Christian, you won't find them under any name related to Manny Calavera. ;)

Riddles for MCalavera

1.  If you like pretty gems that sparkle and shine,
I invite you to dig in my virtual mine.

My first is purple, fit for a king,

My second is green where Dorothy did her thing.

My third is red, July's birthstone as well,

My fourth is seen in strings and is found inside a shell.

My fifth is hard, pure Carbon and expensive to buy,

My sixth is Crocodolite, striped like the big cat's eye.

Seventh is two words, a man-made fake of April's stone,

Eighth is very dark and found at Lightning Ridge alone.

Now take from each gem, one letter in its turn,

And you will find the stuff for which even the god's yearn.

and finally What exciting things can we expect to come on the mens board?

Obviously, lots of masculine men. What more do you want? >:D

Lots of naked masculine men duh.

Uh, if you want, I'll let you be in charge of that.

The leader should set an example and strip off first.  :eyebrows:

:needpics:
Oh, just saw squiddy's post and  :agreed:

You're a nun , can you tempt them into getting naked or something?  :zoinks:

I'm not in the business of censorship, but make sure it's nothing that would burn the inside of our eyelids. Am I in the ballpark MCalavera?

The rules are there to be applied. Good point. Don't post something that no man wants to see. But if it's a nude nun, I don't care.

But due to my genitalia I am technically a man so there is no man but one man that wants to see it  :zoinks:

Pentagram wasn't enough for you? :eyebrows:

Pentagram was TOO much.  :zombiefuck:

Just to be sure, this has nothing to do with sex, right? :autism:

ok i got one more,  easy

What happened in 1961 that will not happen again for over 4000 years?

In 1961, Kennedy promised man would walk on the moon by the end of the decade. But how does this carry over to 4000 years later.

Nah, doesn't make sense.

I got it! Scrap what i said above.

1961 is upside down still 1961. So more than 4000 years later (a few years after 5961) is 6699 (upside down it's still 6699).

I had to cheat for the first one:

The gems are
Amethyst
Emerald (Emerald city - Wizard of OZ)
Ruby
Pearl (From inside oyster shell)
Diamond
Tiger's eye
Cubic Zirconium (Fake diamond)
Black Opal
Taking the first letter of Amethyst, second of Emerald etcetera gives
Ambrosia - The food of the gods.

Well, duh. They could've just asked what the favorite food for the Greek gods was, and I would've answered it with ease. :autism:

:hahaha:

That answer is inaccurate. Depending on how you write digits, 2002 may have been such a year. At least, 6119 satisfies your requirements, and comes earlier than 6699. :P

:nono:

No way could you write a 2 that still looks like a 2 upside down unless you made it look like a Z or a backwards S.

If you made a 5 that looked like an S, then 5005 would work as well.

BTW, 6009 is even sooner than 6119.

Do you know what a seven-segment display (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven-segment_display) is? It's a simple electronic display that has elevated a system of forming digits. A "2" in this system has rotational symmetry. :hahaha:

Depends really on one's interests, but I can see what you mean. Collections do give some enjoyment factor to many. Just that I found my joy/interests in other activities (before I started work) like video games and sports and other such things.

How will this forum differ from the endless whining that the WP Adult Forum has become with much of the same membership participating?  Does the site have more men than women right now?

Grisha's already registered but hasn't posted. And I don't think emlion will be joining after she deleted herself from the temporary men's forum.

But even if they all join, so what? Alex Plank is not the admin of the forum. I am. If I see endless whining that goes on in there, PM and I will handle it.

As for your second question, there are more men than women, yes.

Only women so far are Butterflies, abaisse, and all_white. The rest are men (including our one and only Sir_Les).

Well Grisha is already a member, and I don't think Emlion even knows about the new address. Something tells me it may not turn into the flirt fest that the adult forum has turned into because of the different members there. Although I may have to keep a closer eye on the membership to make sure it does not.

Warnings against what?  Do you have "no whining" in the TOS?  How do you define whining?

Well, you are expected to be mature enough to handle the contents and you are required to stay on topic. Constant whining can be immature and it can get off topic, and if it violates any of the rules, MCalavera and I will handle it. You handled the Adult Section well, and i would probably do something similar.

What rules?  The point I am trying to make is that it isn't as simple as "I will issue warnings to whiners" and the problem goes away.  If you have a "no whining" rule in place you must define whining in unambiguous terms or people will feel you are abusing your power or acting like a tyrant and then people won't bother showing up to your site anymore.  This moderating thing is complex, and an utter pain in the ass.  I wanted to know what MCalavera was going to do differently than what WP does to control the whining element, especially as the site seems to have a large percentage of the membership made up of the worst offenders.

That was the crux of my question.  How?

By not giving them a reason to whine. I mean, I could care less if they are given the freedom to flirt away with each other in The Bar (for example). And I can always add extra sections to suit the needs of many members as possible. It's not as complex as you may think. You just had the unfortunate case that you were a mod without an active admin.

Does this mean there won't be people trolling and making complaints in my forum? No. But really, why should it bother me or PM as much as you make it sound like we should? If people want to complain, let them complain. I don't really care. Didn't make the forum to please incessant whiners.

I may not plan on being a dictator but I also don't plan on being a hopeless people pleaser.

In answer to Callaway's question. Here are the answers:

First is the North Pole (assuming the Earth is a perfect sphere).

Second copy/pasted from my PM exchange with Callaway):

Somewhere near the South Pole there is a horizontal circle circling the sphere with a circumference of 1 mile. If you go east 1 mile at any point X on the circle, you end up back to the same point X. This means that going north 1 mile from that point X is the same as going south 1 mile to that point X.

So any point that's 1 mile north of X is the answer.

After much struggles, I finally got the third answer:

You know how there are circles near the South Pole that are (in circumference) half a mile, quarter a mile, eighth a mile, and so on. Every point X that is 1 mile north of any of the points Y on any of such circles is the answer.

The key is that you have to go around each circle more than once before you can safely say you walked 1 mile east for each scenario. So, for example, on the half a mile circumference circle, you have to go around it twice. For the quarter mile, 4 times. And so on.

***

There you go, folks. I'm now officially a math geek.

Thanks, Jack. If only you were a man (as I had initially thought). :P

But of course you're still welcome to join either way. :)

Lol, if only were a man. Can understand your point in creating it so would think myself rude, but thanks for the offer. That was nice. Sometimes like to lurk on other autism sites so might pop in for a read now and then.

I appreciate the offer, but I left Wrong Planet in part to avoid having to read the posts of a certain element that dominates the Adult Forum over there.  That same element makes up a large part of your membership.  I would say mean things to them and then you would have to ban me.

Seriously I don't think that there would be too much that you would say that would be banworthy.

Not really. It's just a clever MCalavera way to get people posting. People can still get to join after that certain date (just more difficult posting requirements).

Anyway, stop asking questions and get your ass in there. :P

Manny, I like you.  So don't take this personally.

Your site is fucking ridiculous.  You have twice as many rules as WP and seem to add more every day.  Yesterday you banned someone and then wrote a rule after the fact to justify it.  You can't joke about illegal acts?  You can't "impersonate" someone?  I made three posts on your board and you were rude to me four times and on the attack from the second I joined.

Is it your intention that only WP and I2 members can join, and then they can only use pre-approved usernames?  Seriously Manny, the macho posturing needs to come down a notch (or 19) if you want to actually attract and retain quality people.  You can't have it as both a manly, macho, in-your-face-from-the-second-you-join type of place, and have it overflowing with rules about how you can joke and what your name can be.  It's hypocritical and just won't work.

If you can't register as yourself, even though I thought we had nothing against each other, then you're obviously not interested in the growth of the forum and are just there to muck around.

I think you're still very upset because of your days as a WP mod. You tried to test me as an admin (thinking I would ban you) and you failed miserably. So you chose to leave and cause some drama here.

Hey, man, you want me to be nice with you, then allow me to treat you as such. Don't overreact and exaggerate and then expect me to stay quiet and let you twist things all you want.

I'll cool down, no worries.

All good now? I need sleep anyway.

You're an idiot if you think you can play a joke there and expect to be treated normally.

Yes, it was a terribly disruptive "joke".  I registered under the name jesus.

MCalavera and MLA are fighting because MCalavera doesn't like MLA's username on MCalavera's forum. You also missed most members posting their n00dz in an epic thread; unfortunately, that thread and all of the pictures were accidentally deleted by Parts when he accepted a dare from Sir Les to recode the database while drunk.

It's not that I don't like his username, and I didn't plan to ban him (at least not for having Jesus as his username). This is not considered impersonating.

He left by his own will.

Why are you all acting as if you're not understanding my point?

He got harmed by my jokes, and thus he left. That is all.

More advice.

As the admin you would have been better off not outing who I was.  It will make other members who perhaps might want to remain anonymous (if that is allowed) not want to participate.  You are also directing more attention to a matter that you state you want to "move on" from.

I don't care enough about your forum to be willfully ignorant, and I don't have any sinister motive to undermine your authority or humiliate you. So far, MLA has accused you of having too many rules, insulting your members and taking action against him for having a username that you don't like. I haven't seen you try to back yourself up. What is your side of the story?

He has to back those claims, not me.

Since when does an atheist have to show that God doesn't exist?

Either way, you can read the Rules and you can see that I didn't take any action against him for his username.

I don't insult every member. I didn't insult him until he started to obviously act like a troll and asked if I was going to ban him for "impersonating" Jesus.

There was obviously trollish intent from him.

What I mean is that with the exception of CBC, I haven't been involved in a callout with someone I liked.  Only Praetor, Penty, Penty, Benji and Benji. It would require all new tactics as I wouldn't want to be insulting  ???

Well just carry on from what you are doing at the moment.

Callouts were originally places to debate something between two people , however lots of people with bad blood between them have also used it to settle differences (or just verbally knock the shit out of eachother).

It's up to you what you do of course , but IMO if an arguement is spanning across two threads and continuing for pages , it may be worth a callout.  :dunno:

Well just carry on from what you are doing at the moment.

Callouts were originally places to debate something between two people , however lots of people with bad blood between them have also used it to settle differences (or just verbally knock the shit out of eachother).

It's up to you what you do of course , but IMO if an arguement is spanning across two threads and continuing for pages , it may be worth a callout.  :dunno:

It isn't.  My argument with PM is entirely separate, and barely an argument.  He admits he did wrong and apologized.  Now I am just curious about why he thinks QM is a good moderator to emulate.

Peaguy's comment made me chuckle.

I think now is the time for a callout.  :viking:

If he wants to, he is welcome to (of course).  I don't shy from such things.

That being said, I am not angry with him nor do I dislike him.

Callouts don't necessarily mean you dislike the person, but they do keep the argument in one place.

Are callouts allowed on MCalavera's site?

You can share the private messages. It's not like I posted a picture of my private parts there.

And I was joking around with you the same way I did with the fake(?) Pistonhead.

Not sure why you expect members to feel safe there but not here. That's one thing that astounds me.

Peaguy's comment made me chuckle.

Are callouts allowed on MCalavera's site?

Yes.

It's not meant to restrict every shit out there.

I made the rules so that members can contribute something to the forum instead of mere trolling and shit. Impersonating someone like PPK (or Benji or others) for example is not going to be good for the forum. That's why I added the rule. I want good contributions there befitting a forum for men. I didn't even ban the fake accounts' IP addresses and shit and even told whoever was behind them to register again as a new username void of impersonation with the intent to mislead and deceive and ruin the forum

Now that I got that out of the way, if you want to challenge me there, go ahead. I don't censor out challenges and disagreements, but I will respond and "heavily" (MLA's words) if I have to.

Whoever wants a callout, post in The Bar.

Simply put, the way he worded his public warnings got the members to listen. However, i'm beginning to develop my own style of moderation that has come from observations of situations on other sites (WP, AFF, and sites that have nothing to do with AS).

More advice.

As the admin you would have been better off not outing who I was.  It will make other members who perhaps might want to remain anonymous (if that is allowed) not want to participate.  You are also directing more attention to a matter that you state you want to "move on" from.

You're responsible for that, not me.

You chose not to remain anonymous the moment you revealed his identity in this thread (which is public by the way).

You misunderstand me again.  I don't give a shit.  It was because of how your members will perceive you that I mentioned it.
It's a good point.

People know me from WP and even from here. I'm not always on my best behavior nor do I wish to give the impression that I'm the sweetest admin in the world.

I want the members to perceive me as a fellow human member who likes to joke around just like others do. The difference is I have to enforce certain rules when needed.

Not sure if this is in response to my post or not, but it's not about being sweet; it's about being ethical with the power of knowledge and information. Have seen this and worse and multiple times over, involving multiple sites, but hindsight and clear vision and the abscess within the nature of humanity and bla bla bla. It's simply too late for me. Am stuck with the forums I'm on and can only refrain from more in the future. This knowledge only confirms these things for me and nothing really personal intended.

Don't know about trolling but does appear there were some preconceived notions and not much of a real chance given, though the question was really for Jesus.

I wanted to see what kind of attitude would be presented to a member who challenged the rules.  Not breaking them per se, but challenging them.  Based upon the statement I posted above about his rules stating that challenging the rules is "pointless", I wanted to see how the newbie staff would respond to someone who came in and bent what was clearly a ridiculous rule.  The response was what you saw above and here (in reverse chronological order):

So ... who are you really?

Any connection with the Pistonhead/PH accounts?

I was mildly interested in the site to see if I could offer any advice, as I had just been asked for some.  I didn't feel I could give the best advice without a little bit of experience with the current moderation style, so I tested it with what I thought was a very mild push and received a very aggressive and posturing response.  So I came here and expressed my opinion on said stance and gave some advice.

I could say I'm also surprised given that you were a mod at WP applying rules on others. But damn why should I be?

You're a regular member here under the rules of a different forum just like I'm a regular member under the same rules. What we are here does not determine everything we should be in other forums as admins or mods especially.

Anyway, you did your teacher role. Are you satisfied with doing what you had to do? If so, I see no need to continue arguing on this.

I did wish you would've stayed and played Jesus more properly. Would've been interesting, I guess. Provided you didn't troll almost every thread like the fake PH did. :dunno:

So instead of using the, no-nosense, by the book, zero tolerence, enforce the rules to the letter, style that I was going to use, I guess I will use the "lightest touch possible" that you suggested. I'm just confused on how to implement that.

Maybe the "MLA's school of moderation" thread that was suggested is a good idea.

Best place to start is by not giving warnings based on presumptions that have not yet been confirmed, and not telling everyone publicly that it is YOUR forum and YOUR rules (essentially stating that your dick is the biggest in the room).  It's not needed, the rules thread is on every page :)

I am not saying you did any of this PM, but telling everyone you are a hard-ass isn't the lightest touch either.

Hey MLA this is what I see about Menandautism.
It is pretty new. Actually REALLY fucking new.
It would be the height of ridiculousness to expect that it was to have a pre-existing culture, completely settled in admin staff and mods and a well defined rule set. Macca has made a great start and given time he may fuck it up completely OR it made evolve into something great.
I put odds on the later. I think the enthusiasm and the contest and the ideology is all there and I am happy with it.
It will have growing pains and it would be surprising if it didn't.
It has my backing and support 100% and I reckon even now it is bursting with potential and given activity and enthusiam I think it will be a great site.
Very proud of it.
Hope you aren't dismissing it this early on in the piece.

Hey Macv, what type of work do you do?

At the moment, I work at a computer shop and do mostly computer software troubleshooting (Windows and whatever applications in Windows that may have errors running). But I do sometimes help my coworkers with building new systems and repairing hardware stuff, but since they're good at all things hardware, I'm mostly counted on for the stuff that the typical computer technician is average at. :P

Also, currently taking a set of (free) online courses on programming whenever I have the time. That should hopefully set me on a better path for the near future as I can't just stay in a computer shop forever, lol.

Can you still change your signature now?  It was pointed out to me today that he had deleted it.  I didn't ask for my WP email address to be disabled as I was still communicating with a couple of members on requested bans who were going to write me at that address when they wanted back, but I made sure they were passed off.

I think I can set the signature back anytime. But even if I can, it's no use anymore and it doesn't bother me much.

I think the mods there should take a similar stand to what you took and teach that kid an important lesson, maybe awaken him to the fact that the forum isn't just a generic forum to milk out money for him but an important online community for people with autism, people with the same condition that he himself has.

I spoke with one of them yesterday and it has been confirmed that there is basically only one active moderator at this point.

Cool. This can be a good awakening for Alex as the admin of his forum.

Well AFAIK, Moog is still around (though he doesn't have a green badge. I can't remember if Alex gave it to him anyway)
And Sallamandrina was doing active mod stuff less than 24 hours ago (reprimanding someone in a thread somewhere).
Tallyman is still acting as mod in PM's and in the moderator attention thread that he's subscribed to.
Tinky came back for five minutes, then sort of......went back to being passive at best.

Define "Active" anyway?

Maybe the mod who was speaking to MLA was just feeling like the other mod/s weren't pulling their weight and wrote them off as non-active?

TallyMan has semi-retired:  http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt167678.html

Sall has given Alex 30 days notice, and she will only be answering things sent to her in PMs during that time.

Moog is what I define as an "active moderator" as he has not expressed his intention to leave.

Tinky, WardenWolf, DW, MrMark, JackRobison, JohnRobison, Toggi3, several employees at Sliqua, whomever is Alex's female target of the week, and several others still have the permissions, but they are far from active as some I never saw during my entire term and some only show up at the most random times.
