Oh. OK.

Actually, I think this whole story should go into a Darwin Award thread or something. These guys who do this to themselves, knowing the possibility of severe injury exists, are not showing me much smarts. What they ARE showing looks like guts, sure enough, but they're showing up in the wrong place.

Don't they make good livings out of it to support their families with and thus pass on their genes?  I think Darwin awards need something more retarded than just a risky occupation, otherwise astronauts would qualify too.

I think you are right about the award going to those who show stupidity, rather than simple risk-taking, but I don't consider what these guys are doing a "risk" as much as it is almost a certainty that they will sustain an a life changing injury. I don't have any idea how much money they make once becoming pro. The guy I photographed was a college student and his injury was definitely life threatening, since he almost bled to death. Kind of like Evil Knevil, maybe - it's not a question of whether or not, but a question of when.
