My computer speakers finally died. I've had them for 23 years or so. Now wondering what to replace them with.

A couple of days ago (elsewhere on the internet) someone from Texas was complaining that his house was 45f and he was "freezing to death".  I worked out that my house was the same temperature and as I was alone in the house I hadn't turned the heating on because I couldn't be bothered expending the fuel for myself.  Instead I'd put on a sweater and my slippers and I was fine thanks because 45f is what we refer to as "Normal February".

Turns out Texans have guns in the house but not sweaters or blankets.  (Or egg cups - but that's an old bitch.)

Fuck sake, people...  Priorities!

A few years of living without winter can make people a complete wuss about the cold. Jack also doesn't have winter clothing. It was all somehow lost in the move and never replaced. Have since bought one zip up hoodie which is used for rainy or chilly days, and a lightweight black trench coat which has only been used a few times when traveling in winter. Do have a handfull of long sleeve shirts and blouses, but still not what anyone would generally consider warm winter wear. One quarter-zip heavyweight very warm shirt with a houndstooth print survived the move. Still rarely used, but husband will say, it must be really cold because Jack's wearing her houndstooth.

Was building a thing in my basement, only to discover I put the frame on backwards and have to rip it all out and start again. Don't have either time or energy for that in what's left of the cub's nap.

Fucking ants!! All over my kitchen!!

At first it was just the odd few in the cat's food bowls, and I couldn't spray them because the spray makes me gag and cough like mad.


But I had no choice tonight when I got home, they were thick over the benches the floor the cabinets and everywhere.
I had to rewash all the dishes. Wipe down everything. Now I'm about to mop the floors.

 

I found that drawing a line with chalk made a barrier the ants wouldn't cross.  That might help deter them from the cat's bowls.  About the rest of the house, once you get them cleared out draw a chalk line across and openings and up the door frame about 6 inches.  For fruit flies, blackberry wine, banana peels or a jam of some type helps attract them in a jar covered with cling wrap punched with a few small holes.

Chalk! I've never heard that before. I'm guessing it works because the chalk dust gets stuck to their little exoskeletons dehydrating them to death, kind of in the same way diatomaceous earth works.
My furious spraying seems to have worked anyway. Now if I could just get rid of the ones inside the wall at the front of the house.

Maxforce Quantum Ant Bait...it's made by Bayer, you can get it on Ebay or Amazon. That's what the exterminator SO gets at the bar uses.

They have one rated for carpenter ants. Battled those assholes every spring in this house since forever. Bought some 2 years back. Never tried anything that worked as well as it has.

My hair now takes ages to dry after washing now that it's longer. And it's at the in-between stage of length where it curls upwards ridiculously.
