Couldn't help but notice that upcoming on the calendar at the bottom of the Index page is "World Toilet Day". Never knew about it in previous years. Wondering if it will come up as a Google Doodle.

There was no Toilet Day doodle. 

  So why are you sitting there complaining?  Get busy drawing one! 

My laziness means all of my talents are completely wasted on me.

I worked in an office building once and it was next to the river. People used to squat at the edge of the river and poop into the water. It must be so liberating not having to worry about peeing on the seat or forgetting to flush.

We recently had a group of Romanian immigrants move into the college town below...a few people were complaining that they were defecating in the street.

For 3 months I was armed with my cell phone camera on every trip...but to my disappointment....nothing.

I heard Rod Stewart spontaneously singing a few songs during a TV interview recently. He sounds exactly the same as he ever did. He isn't ancient though, he is 73. That seems ancient when you're 25, sure, but not so much when you're my age.

Still, similar age to Art Garfunkel and Donovan.

Can't say I've got a huge amount of sympathy for them. They got to be rock stars (well pop stars anyway), made lots of money, and had a great talent that lasted them many years. Time catches up with all of us, but these guys don't need to feel shortchanged because their singing voices didn't fare well in their old age.

My sympathy is really for the loss of the voice, not the career, money, etc.

And yeah, Rod Stewart seems to have kept more of it. Of course, he never had anywhere near the range or precision of Garfunkel, but still.

For some reason a Dame Vera Lynn performance came up on my youtube feed. I guess because my son is always watching youtube videos about WW2.

She was 78 years old and still brilliant. She's still kicking at 101 years old now, but I think that was her last performance (in 1995).

It's probably ethnically quite accurate too. The more brown holes in the ground, the more 3rd world the country, and the browner the inhabitants, so either both poetic and succinctly ironic.

So generally, the browner it gets, across the board, the smellier it gets
