The dioom III soundtrack, ripped.
Currently the dark ambient 'vega processing' background. The original doom series games were well ahead of their day IMO. but what doom, doom II and final doom, ultimate doom and user WAD files did for the originals, slick fucking grapics in doom III, and who the fuck wouldn't want to pack a chainsaw for a trip to hell if they were off to go demon-bashing :autism:
Thought for a military scif the doom movie, they did well, for backstory, despite you just KNOWING its gonna get demon-ey pretty fucking quicktime though; although they shouldn't have had the marines in the movie, fire a BFG through a wall, slagging a great chasm through metal and steel, leaving irradiated-looking molten glass dripping from the BFG plasma bolt impact site, and then the onlt other shot being to accompany the inevitable possessed squaddie 'how many rounds you got in the chamber' '(BFG guy, troop leader of a special ops team) to the last living member 'I got one round', then blasting it straight past the doom marine, when in the game, it rips everything or almost everything to shreds, and a BFG headshot is perfect in III for levelling say, an arch-vile, or mancubus, so obviously, they should have showed off at least one uber-messy gibbing , its asking for it really including a Big Fuckin' Gun, in the movie, basically the biggest sodding beast of a weapon around in the original doom games, and have something like a 3-on one fight, where the demon massively outclasses all of the marines, messily dismembers one like a sadistic child pulling the legs off a fly, only to beat the others senseless and send them reeling, then out it should have come, right in the face, and a body covered in a rain of boiling glass that used to be solid rock, not a bloody misfire, that sort of movie or game 'prop' isn't there for dialogue, its there for sticking it up someone's arse and painting hades a fetching eyeball shade of blue-green-red-white with chunky bits in there, or else just cutting straight through something big and ugly at the worst moments for there to be a big ugly critter looking to rip you anew.

Heard I Will Survive at the bowling alley.

In my car I will be listening to Metallica's black album.
-
I never listen to my own music in the car, except if I'm on a road trip and there are no stations for the car radio to pick up (yes, some of my road trips are like that).
I prefer to listen to current music on the radio. Keeps me from turning into one of those boring old farts who moans that current music is just noise and music was much better when I was young.
I will change the station, though, if they insist on repeatedly playing some really annoying song like "Shake it Off".

Actually, it's been scientifically proven that modern pop music sucks ass.
Yes, I've read several scholarly articles on the subject.
I have always tried to listen to and enjoy current music. I will continue to do so until modern music becomes so bad that I can't stand listening to it any more.
I was a teenager in the late 70s and early 80s. There was some pretty bad music then as well.

Yes, that was when the record industry started to destroy true artistically based music and replace it with a bland, industrial product. Frank Zappa describes what happened to the industry in several interviews and even talked about it in his song Tinsel Town Rebellion.
In the early days of rock, company executives didn't understand the product that they were funding and as a result they were willing to take chances on some fairly experimental music. Some of the bands caught on and made money while others didn't. This didn't make the bean counters happy who weren't willing to take chances on a band that wouldn't give them a return on investment. The result was the beginning of professionally written, watered down, bland pop music that was guaranteed to at least break even. That started in the mid 70's.

It's been a surprisingly rainy winter. I'm not used to it! Maybe the sunny cold days are yet to come but for the next week it's showers.
In summer it's usually a different story. We can go more than a month without rain.

Perth has a Mediterranean climate.
On the other side of the country we are having one of the worst droughts ever. It has barely rained over the past couple of months.
-

:lol1:
Most places I lived go several months without rain.
In California it's not uncommon to have 6 months or more without rain.
Honestly I don't know why they classify the Perth area as Mediterranean climate because most Mediterranean climates are fairly dry.
Perth gets a shit ton of rain in comparison, it's almost subtropical weather.
-
Where does California get its water from?
If that happened here there would be water restrictions and people moaning about how low in water the dams are (that's where the metropolitan area gets its water from).
-
Where does California get its water from?
From the Sierra Nevada, Cascade and a few other mountain ranges. Most of their water is from snow melt (as it is here too). They have an elaborate aqueduct system to bring it all to L.A., San Francisco and the other major cites. Here in Oregon, we simply live where all the snow melt water naturally is because we're not stupid.
If that happened here there would be water restrictions and people moaning about how low in water the dams are (that's where the metropolitan area gets its water from).
The same thing happens to California whenever a drought hits. They barely have enough dams for 40M people which is why they can't grow anymore. This latest drought showed the limits of their infrastructure.
-
The Mediterranean climate in Perth is, I would imagine, similar to the Mediterranean climate in Southern Italy (for example). You have the Mediterranean weather patterns but with a reasonably high rainfall.
Los Angeles version of the Mediterranean climate is, I would imagine, similar to the Mediterranean climate in Northern Africa. On the edge of the Sahara. Semi-arid.
I lived in a European city for a year that was a mixture of Mediterranean and alpine climates. I'm guessing that there are places in California and adjoining states that are similar. So basically we had beautiful, dry summers that were never particularly hot, and cold snowy winters.
Funniest thing was encountering a couple of English backpackers while I was walking home through an old part of the town late at night.
English backpackers: Oh look, there's someone.... Excuse me, do you speak English.
Me: Yeah, sure (in Australian accent).
English backpackers: (speaking slowly like I'm stupid and barely understand English): CAN YOU TELL US WAY TO OUR CHEAP ASS HOTEL.
Me: You just go up there, round the corner, and you're there (pointing them in the right direction, speaking English like Steve Irwin or Paul Hogan).
English backpackers: Hvala Lepa (meaning thank you very much in the local tongue).
Me: No worries!
-
My first stepdad (who is English) told me that Perth was like Spain. He'd never been to southern Italy.
-
They say Spain is pretty, though I've never been. But Daniel says it's the best place he's ever been. I haven't been to Perth either, but I've been to Adelaide (also a Mediterranean climate) a few times and also to Italy a few times. In terms of temperatures and rainfall, Perth is pretty similar to Southern Europe generally. Adelaide is drier, with terrible heatwaves in Summer and colder winters.
-
Yeah it gets really hot in Adelaide, so much so that I would never live there.
Places I've been in Australia are Melbourne, Geelong, Brisbane and Toowoomba. Would live in Toowoomba, I like it there. It is susceptible to flash flooding though.
-
Toowoomba is also host country for its own species of tree funnelweb, the Toowoomba funnelweb, One f the genus Hadronyche.
Would love one as a pet, don't think I've ever seeb Hadronyche in the exotic pet trade before,

And listening to family guy and american dad on TV, whilst playing the game Fallout-tactics, hearing the crackling purr of revving barrels as a 7.62mm minigun spins up to spit out a hail of torso-ripping gory death and a storm of flying giblets, hammering into a sniper who'd had the cheek to survive the sterilization of a hostile city invasion needing to be pacified the HARD way.
And the roar of flamethrower napalm bursts, and the the thump of combat shotguns firing slug and flechette antipersonnel rounds in full on bursts right in the faces of some uppity gangbanger thugs, Just getting busy recovering the lkes of browning M2 .50 cal autocannon rounds and cannons, laser and plasma rifles firing hissing bolts leaving the enemy gurgling out a last scream as they are liquefied into a puddle of gooey pink slime and ashes as laser bolts whip through the air, the sound of grenades being thrown into foxholes to flush out the enemy with incendiary grenades and acid filled grenades, then more screams as anyone coming out rushes straight into the path of a squaddie packing a flamethrower in one hand and a plasma pistol in the other, the odd sawing noise as ripper chainblades bite through armor like it were paper to chew up the insides of the enemy at close range, Messy and vicious as hell but damn effective. Looting assault rifles, Steyrs, the odd rocket launcher, lower end combat shotguns for sale back at base and the quiet, stealthy running of a massive dirty great bloody mutated lizard trooper, who happens to be my pack-mule for her massive physical strength and carrying capacity as well as my grenadier, damn touch despite being totally unable to use firearms or any other than weapons covering her fists using an electrically and kinetically charged spiked metal gauntlet to rip the enemy apart at close quarters whilst throwing plasma grenades, turning the enemy to slop piles as the plasma charge vaporizes the flesh from enemy bones.
And the thumpthumpthump of browning .50cal M2 autocannon fire spraying crowds of enemies if any are left standing after the hail of laser and plasma fire and grenades, both thrown and 40mm grenades fired from multiple men with launchers.

Enjoying my vinyl, I found this treasure I had not heard in a while, Steppenwolf, Second and followed by Monster.
Anyway, as I was sitting out on my back deck (yep I have a secondary turntable in the garage piped out to my massive PA system that stands as my summer time backyard stereo, holding the reins tight, since it was not yet six AM) puffing my pipe, sipping my coffee and affirming my existentialist skepticism I came across this song (once again) and arrived almost instantly at the notion that this song is just as important as it was almost fifty years ago when I first heard it.
So I went to find it on youtube so I could share it with all my "friends" here.
Nice bluesy thing but I am also posting the lyrics in case you get lost in the music. Not to get too hissy pissy here but why the fuck is Steppenwolf NOT in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame or at the very least John Kay who wrote most of the songs, like "Born To Be Wild" and "Magic Carpet Ride"
and a great number of other great songs?
Anyway, enjoy!

Starin' at the boob tube, turnin' on the big knob
Tryin' to find some life in the waste land
Fin'ly found a program, gonna deal with Mary Jane
Ready for a trip into hate land
Obnoxious Joe comes on the screen
Along with his guest self-righteous Sam
And one more guy who doesn't count
His hair and clothes are too far out
While pushin' back his glasses Sam is sayin' casually
"I was elected by the masses"
And with that in mind he starts to unwind
A vicious attack on the finest of grasses
Well it's evil, wicked, mean and nasty
(Don't step on the grass, Sam)
And it will ruin our fair country
(Don't be such an ass, Sam)
Well, it will hook your Sue and Johnny
(You're so full of bull, Sam)
All will pay that disagree with me
(Please give up you already lost the fight, alright)
Misinformation Sam and Joe
Are feeding to the nation
But the one who didn't count counted them out
By exposing all their false quotations
Faced by a very awkward situation
This is all he'd say to save the day
Well it's evil, wicked, mean and nasty
(Don't step on the grass, Sam)
And it will ruin our fair country
(Don't be such an ass, Sam)
Well, it will hook your Sue and Johnny
(You're so full of bull, Sam)
All will pay that disagree with me
(Please give up you already lost the fight alright)
You waste my coin Sam, all you can
To jail my fellow man
For smoking all the noble weed
You need much more than him
You've been telling lies so long
Some believe they're true
So they close their eyes to things
You have no right to do
Just as soon as you are gone
Hope will start to climb
Please don't stay around too long
You're wasting precious time
Starin' at the boob tube, turnin' on the big knob
Tryin' to find some life in the waste land
Fin'ly found a program, gonna deal with Mary Jane
Ready for a trip into hate land
Obnoxious Joe comes on the screen

I have been suffering massive, no, COLOSSAL torment from an enormous brain burning Brittany Spears earworm for two days. The wound is severe.
I am trying this harsh very loud, classic hardrock thing from my youth to try to drive out, expel, purge and cleanse this excruciating affliction from what is remaining of my lacerated mind's anguished state.
Seemed to help the second time I played it. I might just need a large playlist of similar.

Amazing guy. I knew he was big, but apparently he was weighed at 750+ pounds at one stage. about 340 kg. That is positively enormous.

It is all MP3, but once you gather about fifty or sixty songs you can burn a CD and just sit back.
If you like jazz, you should check out the site and take advantage of the months of new releases available. They are not just samples, but full songs.

Listened to "Let It Be" album last night. Right now, "Hey Jude."
I have an ancient 45rpm version of "Let It Be" which includes the song "You Know My Name, Look Up The Number" as side B and I have not yet purchased the "Rarities" set.
I want to hear this song, but I do not want to subject my six hundred dollar newly replaced stylus to an old 45 record, just yet.
All I have to hear it is Spotify. It helps, but not enough.

Hilarious!
They remind me of another unknown band I used to work with called, Mirrors. They were not just Beatles style impersonators, though. They could do any band quite well.

Handle that 45 with care.

The Ruttles were brilliant but very short-lived. They were quite unique.
There's been quite a few Beatles cover bands, though, some of them quite good. I particularly remember a Swedish one called Lenny Pane that I had the good fortune to listen to live in 1992. They went on to win a couple of prizes and were really good.

I do and I actually have five copies of that record from the sixties. I had realized that the mix or something was different and I wanted to "collect" things that seemed different to me, even as a teen. I have not played any of them since around 1973. That is when I first moved out of my parents house and I "lost" my turntable adapter for 45s during that move.
I only have about three hundred 45s, but I do not think I have bought any during my adult life other than specialized LPs which have been remastered and re-released on heavy vinyl for audiophile interests. The seven inch 45s are all from the sixties and hardly ever played, except for a few, like "Satisfaction," " Magic Carpet Ride," "Born To Be Wild," "Get Back," "Purple Haze" and on and on. The original 45 release of "Revolution" as you know is quite different from the album version as well. I have four of those, but one is a bit worn.
Thanks for the heads up, but I tend to handle all my vinyl with extreme care. Learned that early on.

I suspected you'd treat the 45s with great respect anyway. :)

I had that 45 and so many more...miss my collection now that I'm older.
Had just about every one of the Beatles albums on 33 one of the pasted over butcher covers also....along with the Stones 3D covered Satanic Majesties Request and just tons of records, my dad and I collected them together. Hendrix, Big Bopper, Bo Diddly, Beatles, Stones, down to AC/DC and Pat Benatar.
When I got married I left them at home...after repeatedly watching SO using a couple favorites I took with me as coasters I never brought anymore into the house. My mother's washer overflowed and I lost about 10 random albums in the bottom of one box after it flooded the adjacent storage closet, so I gave her the number of a collector and let her make the sale...because I couldn't.
It bought the washer and dryer I needed and then some even back then, but damn. I used to spend hours just reading the covers.

Oddly, even though I have fully adapted to CDs and all digital forms of entertainment, I have never stopped listening to my albums or reading the covers.
I am lucky to have a tolerant wife who has allowed me to press my own space into her life's needs, graciously permitting me to keep my music going.

As often as possible. Fewer instances available if I am to "co-habitate" with two other souls, though. Temporary.
My daughter has moved out and lives with three other college kids across town.
Being laid off (I know that is also improper English, but contemporary usage) from work might create a change in the situation and a return home for her even before we might have expected.
:dunno:
Just streaming some hard rock classics for now. Nothing new.
-
I know I'd feel happier with my daughter under our roof at the moment, so that would be an upside. I guess it depends how she'll manage for money whether yours moves back in. Mine won't be - she lives with her boyfriend where she's in her last year at uni, so they're a settled household now.
We use laid off in the same sense on this side of the puddle anyway.
Hopefully normal service will be resumed sooner rather than later so you get more chance to crank it up. :headbang2:

Looking for something new to listen to and tired of Spotify's poor sound quality.
I have been pleased with the audio quality from Tidal. Their "genetic" shuffle software is not as capable as Spotify or even old school Pandora, but the streams are usually lossless.
I mainly use it for jazz and classical, but it is loaded with rock and modern stuff, too.

Actually been watch/listening to a Rugby game. Not much in the way of live sports choices right now. Just finished, Eels topping the Sea Eagles, but the very disturbing thing I noticed during this broadcast was that they used cardboard cutouts in the seats to emulate the look of fans in the stands.
Also, the "piped in" crowd noises felt pushed. Not sure if that was original or a part of Fox Sports' re-broadcast.
The most disturbing thing overall was that when making these thousands of cardboard props to represent fans, no accounting for perspective or aspect ratios or size was made.
The image of the one year old baby in a hat was the same size as the two swilling fools posted three seats away. Scary looking. Just, NO!

I forgot to mention, I plug my DAC directly into my "old" M-Audio sound card via USB. I have a sort of budget DAC from Audio Quest. Not the fancy tube one I wish I had, but the guys who recommended this one called it the best "entry level" choice. After trying on those eight hundred dollar pants, I decided this one would be fine.
I do not use bluetooth very often for music. Only in the car.

Intro - Joe Strummer]
Sing, Michael, sing
On the route of the 19 Bus
We hear them sayin'
[Verse 1 - Mick Jones]
How you get so rude and'a reckless?
Don't you be so crude and'a feckless
You been drinkin' brew for breakfast
Rudie can't fail, no, no
(We reply)
I know that my life makes you nervous
But I tell you that I can't live in service
Like the doctor whose born for a purpose
Rudie can't fail
[Chorus - Jones & Strummer]
(Ok)
I went to the market to realize (my soul)
What I need (I just don't have) (Oh no)
First they curse, then they press me 'til I hurt
Rudie can't fail
[Verse 2 - Mick Jones]
First you must cure your temper
Then find a job in a paper
You need someone for a savior
Rudie can't fail
(We reply)
Now we get a'rude and a'reckless
To been seen looking cool and speckless
An' drinking brew for breakfast
Rudie can't fail (oh no)
[Chorus]
I went to the market to realize (my soul)
'Cause what I need (I just don't have) (Don't have)
First they curse, then they press me 'til I hurt
Rudie can't fail
[Bridge - Joe Strummer]
Ok, ok
So where you wanna go today?
Hey boss man, huh, yeah
So you're looking pretty smart (Chicken skin suit) with a chicken skin suit
You think you're pretty hot (Pork pie hat) in your pork pie hat
[Outro]

Some major work on the street drainage system is occurring within a stones throw of our bedroom window. The two big trucks are shaking the surrounding ground with a hideous grinding noise. I can feel the sound inside my house. Even my dog is near panic. :thumbdn:

As they feed the war machine and pull the strings behind the scenes
With a bloated sense of supremacy
Blinded by the preconceived distorted way to be perceived
It's what believed by your enemy
Hold on to something here come the rains
This dam is about to break
Hold on to nothing
self-contained
How much more can you take
Might is right and thought is wrong it's along road nowhere
Enjoy the ride with blinders on
Your government is in control
they'll keep you safe inside your homes
Board your windows lock your doors
Hold on to something here come the rains
This dam is about to break

Couple of a years ago I bought a barely inspected box of random shit LPs (because they were LPs and because I have collected them for my entire life. One more box? Hell yeah!!) and there were SIX, ffs, "Tommy James and The Shondells" albums. Discovered or rather re- that collection last night. I have not slept since.

Tommy James was a 60s pop icon. Many "hit" songs on the radio and radio ruled music in that era. I learned to roller skate at our only local rink around 13 years of age while three girls competed for my attention, all the time "Crimson And Clover" among many others, blasted from every corner of the building. There were three of us guys hanging out and wishing we knew what to do with the girls chasing after us. I kissed all three at different times.
Only fucked one though and we were in our late 20s when that reunion occurred. Many years before I even met my wife to be.
Good times. Hot rods, bonfires and tailgating in the parking lot, all the cool guys out there drinking, smoking and waiting for the bored "legal age" skaters to wander out. Us young punks were inside skating and needing a ride home from daddy or mommy envious of anyone with a car.

Not a punk in sight. Little eleven year olds running up to the boys and saying "my friend wants to know if you'll skate with her".

Skating, (especially opening a rink) in its "heyday" was considered a cash cow for many types of businesses, some criminal. As I grew more aware of what makes the "World Go 'round," I saw this stuff more clearly.
I feel that set of relevancies might have ruined skating for all of us, in the long run. What about a mean to a better end?
I have seen in my mind's eye a future, as have many, where each person was more free and the shoes that everyone wears propel them by power.
What are we waiting for?!!!? Another message from Mercury?
:hair:
Well, it's not really that bad in my own mind, but, I am right! Even BTTF points out a possible version.
We already have small drones that can carry over two hundred pounds of ordinance. Can't we also carry the same size bag of mostly water balanced above the mechanism, instead of under? You know I am right.
Honestly, I have enjoyed the memories of that time, recently, even more than I indulged in the frustration of future not yet arriving.
:trollskull:

Have you ever played with a friend or a chat group using text by just hitting the middle word suggested or something?
This was my idea for a similar game to play using a "sign off" with each post and all parties making fun of the result for fun. Just for fun as just fun. Nothing more.
Too little too late, though. I am not in a condition to play internet games right now, but I wish I was. I wish I had nothing better to do, sometimes. Until we are Re-Dwelled it will be this way.

This latest Dusty Hill thing has gotten me pulling out old crusty Texas bands again, most of which we competed or kicked in Battle Of The Bands events, popular in the 70s. I can't stop listening to this shit.
Never beat ZZ Top though. Those guys show up to a BoB event, you might as well pack up if you're there for the gate. They always took all the money.
I always accused him of taking a made up stage name, but he insisted that his friends who called him Dusty, ORIGINALLY, had a sense of humor, but he wore out their humor after a while.
He told Les Paul, when they met (Hall of Fame broadcast of some sort) that he's been meaning to shave, but keeps forgetting.
:2thumbsup:

I can only think of two Texas bands. ZZ Top and The Gods of All Texas. And if you've never heard The Gods of All Texas I suggest you keep it that way. It's a bell that can never be unrung.

I grew up in south Texas and got my start in the music business in the 70s working with many great bands, not all of which were rock oriented. Many Latin sounds, too, but I can name over a hundred, I would bet. Some of which you might have heard of, possibly.

Good news for dedicated, long time fans like me. I don't think I have reached one hundred concerts, yet, but probably close.
I used to take off work early, fly to a concert and red-eye my way home, arrive back to work at the music shop without much sleep or much to eat, but I made it to the concert!
Sandy Pearlman (producer and tech) and Allen Lanier (singer, writer, Anchor, multi-instrumentalist), original members of the group, are both dead, sadly.

I am normally NOT a fan of remakes, in fact most of the ones I've heard are "rotten remakes" with little or no soul or feeling. But, as the humorist, Dave Barry remarked "music is subjective"! Here is one of the exceptions..........Santana does it well!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4jdiJA2TtQ
-
Santana is always awesome!
In the industry it is called a "cover" when an artist plays another artist's music.
Often the reinterpretation is only barely recognizable compared to the original. "All Along The Watchtower" is an example that Jimi Hendrix "covered" from a Bob Dylan effort. Came out completely different.
Another example, "Pretty Woman" by Roy Orbison is almost a completely different song from the way Van Halen interpretted the work.
If you look at how Van Halen made the video, it would never have aired in these times. It was banned from MTV in the '80s due to the lack of taste.
There was even a parody done of "Pretty Woman" that the original publishing company sued over. It was top music industry news at the time. The case went to the Supreme Court eventually and redefined "Fair Use" laws as people know them today.
Van Halen dressed up some Kinks music as well and got boo'ed for it.
As you said, music is subjective.
Keeping with Roy Orbison, going on the RIAA info site you will find that forty five artists have legally COVERED his song "You Got It" and none of them are meant to be rip offs or remakes, but rather done in honor of one of the many artists' late and most respected heroes.

I found this, "UltraAnalogue Recordings" version of classical music.
Kind of fits my mood for the moment.
Give it a try! There is quite a bit more on his youtube channel. He puts those out so freely, because he want to sell 15IPS reel to reel tapes of the recordings he has done in his home.
He is not just another millionaire who loves classical music, but he is supporting artists and making a unique product available for those who have the equipment to fully appreciate it.
I have not bought any of his $500 tapes, but the hi-res vids are enought to show the difference in what he is doing for the audio community.

I have been going through my Motown and funk collection this week.
It is Music that I was not much into in my youth, massive headbanger over here, but as I have opened small bits of my mind, I love this and I wasted years not giving it an additional chance.
First time for me to open up some was the first time when I worked with Rick James, who backed up Boston Ballet. Boston Ballet was all jazz and funk dancing crew that were so fucking athletic that anyone would be impressed.
One of their warm up routines was a standing line and everyone leapfrogged over the one in front for about twenty minutes. Then lay down with their feet up and each would run over the groups feet. Insane, but it led to some amazing choreography later in the show.
All with Rick James twelve piece band making the jazz/funk music. No singing, just fucking WOW!
Ohio Players. I know it's not Christmas fare, but neither am I. I just want Christmas over and done.

After that last big splurge on media at the record store that is now closed, there were some items I had forgotten about buying. (Large pile to get through!)
There is a 1968 RCA triple LP release of "The Best of The Blues" which reaches back into the '30s for some tracks.
I keep thinking, "Hey, that's where Clapton, Page or Hendrix found that groove. DAMN!" I only have a very embarrassingly meeger collection from this era of original blues singers and I am really enjoying rediscovering these lately.
I have a fair amount of downloaded files, but barely any hard media (CDs or LPs) that I can just grab when I want.
I know, digital media is the most convenient, but my collection of music includes many genre and way too many TB of music to keep in any one of the various computers I use for music.
My best one is still slow while it takes fifteen minutes to index all the discs wrangled into it.
I obviously need a better server and cataloguing system for my music collection.
Some of this blues is like the argument with Bod Dylan fans. Some play Dylan constantly while some of us (still dedicated fans) can only take an hour of off key singing, regardless of the Absolute Message within the music.
Same with the old blues music, "... but those forties wire recordings sound So bad! How can you listen to that crap?" I find the middle ground when I can.
I have been listening to a lot of old blues for the past few days.

I have a nephew visiting for the weekend. He loves to hear my stereo and I often spoil him rotten.
He's the one who keeps me full up with fresh maple syrup from his own trees (at first).
Started as a hobby, now a full blown business, leasing acres of maple forest, caring for many tens of thousands of sap trees, huge warehouse with simmering vats of maple extract and so forth. Bottling equipment, sap gathering equipment, constant gov't inspections, operational staff, lawyers, insurance like crazy, too damn much bother!
Anyway, our place is on his way as his family is headed for a much needed vacation down south. They are out "antiquing" right now.
I always make him listen to some Blue Oyster Cult while he is here.

Fabulous sound! And, I have always loved the harpsichord.
Nephew and family are still at the hotel. They'll drop by again on their way out to say our goodbyes for another year or so. We have room for two adults, but they have five boys in tow.
Oldest is fourteen and a sprint car racer.

Now, try to understand that I do not want to turn this kind of fun music into any sort of political statement, but we all lived down near there and many of us saw this whole shit coming.
I never knew Chad well, but the rest were my buds in the music business as life is sometimes.
This song has a really dark current affair feeling and yet it was recorded in studio and released as a part of a studio album in 2009. It was all bound to happen and predicted here in rock n roll.

I do not remember if I have posted this before, but I have been downloading some music from the AAJ site.
It is mostly newish, modern jazz artists, offering a free DL to sample their music. These DLs are full songs, not just samples and they have about thirty or forty pages, each with eight or ten DLs, one song at a time, from one artist at a time, but you can get a picture of where modern new jazz is going.
You will have to set up an account with a valid email to download "The Song Of The Day," but it is worth it and the exploration of a couple of years past is the real value.
I recommend that you remane your downloads immediately (they make it easy with large text to copy and paste), because they come with a server designation as the filename, which totally sucks. Some songs include extensive metadata to identify the music in a player, but many do not.
They offer a small "listen" panel (it's free to listen without signing up) and in seconds you can decide if you might ever like the music or you can just browse and see what is new out there.
All About Jazz is the site ... https://www.allaboutjazz.com/ (https://www.allaboutjazz.com/)
Just set up and account, login, hit the "Explore" button, scroll down to "Song Of The Day" and choose your free music You can download gigs of free jazz on the spot, all MP3, of course, but it is a great sampling from each artist.
There is no limit as with other free sites like Freegal and such, limited to five or ten DLs per week - stupid!
I hope a few of you get some pleasure from this site as I have over the years.
The daily free song is only one aspect of this site, though. It is really an ongoing news source for jazz artists worldwide.

Technically she is amazing, and I believe she's got perfect pitch. I find her lacking in expression, however, and I'm not entirely sure why that is. For example, the Bach is mechanically excellent but does not go beyond that. It's frequently an issue with the interpreters of Bach (which is why I frequently prefer Vivaldi for the guitar, mandolin, etc). But it's the case with the others as well.
The encore piece is better, weirdly. Maybe she's just more into Albeniz.
I guess what I'm trying to say - and this is grossly unfair because Paco de Lucia was one of the greatest guitarrists who ever lived - that she somewhat lacks the controlled variability - expression - in rhythm that I am looking for:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9RS4biqyAc
Paco was not a classically trained guitarrist - he did Flamenco for most of his life, except for this concert - but he had an absolutely perfect sense of rhythm and variance. Something that was uniquely his.
-
I should add that the orchestra in that Rodriguez piece is rather bland. Paco makes it all special.

Apparently in England there is a quasi game played by people who hate it as well. So if you hear the song in it's entirety in a store......you have been "WHAMmed". If you don't your safe or get some sort of point. Carla heard this on one of her news shows. ANother piece of news I heard about that vapid tune, is that there were some people who set up a GoFundme site to get donations to buy the royalties to the crap song and put it someplace where it would never be heard of again. They did raise quite a bit of money, but, sadly, the royalties are worth a few million and they only raised a a couple of hundred thousand. OH WELL! :'(
