I'm starting to be able to do the things I used to do before I got sick which feels good. It still wipes me out but I feel more productive which makes me happier.

And this is the part where I have to be sure not to screw it up and do too much before my body is completely healed. That's what I usually do :P I have an appt with the Respirologist the middle of December to get the all clear.

Now I'm intrigued...did you describe it in the "What did you eat today?" thread? :orly:

My drumming is something I'm proud of, and playing in a couple of gigs without reheasing is fucking awesome, as far as I'm concerned.

Yes.
Today will be some ham steaks, baked sweet potatoes, green salad. Soup for the last meal.

I found yesterday's meal...chicken fried steak, gravy, eggs over easy, hash browns and toast!
What kind of soup will you have tonight? :orly:
-
I followed Celticgoddess's advice to de-hoard in 20-minute intervals, with 10-minute posting breaks in between.
Now my laundry is in the washer, hours earlier than it probably would have been without that schedule! :green:

I have followed CG's advice all day, working for 20-minute intervals with 10-minute posting breaks in between,
and it's working very well...I'm getting rid of so much hoarded stuff, and cleaning up the apartment! :green:

No, unfortunately. They are probably there, but I don't tend to go out a lot at home. Had more of an opportunity up here, and in a way it was a bit of luck. pandora's brother got us to go to the first gig, and mentioned people just got up and played. Took off from there.

Today, after much procrastination, I found 1.) a hoarded bag of "fun size" Three Musketeers, which means I can delay shopping till tomorrow,
AND 2.) eight hoarded quarters, which means I can do my laundry before work, and in fact I am doing it now! :hadron:

A longtime friend that I haven't seen in years invited me to a young adult retreat with my church. So I went, even though I was terrified (so many people I haven't seen in 20 years, from my days as a camper/counselor) but it was amazing. He told people about my situation before I arrived so when I got there, I was surrounded by support and shoulders to lean on. I've got a lot of people here now who will be looking out for me and keeping in touch to make sure I'm okay. Plus I got through 12 hours of socializing :zombiefuck: still recovering from that part though.

I will ride with someone to the meeting, who will be my representative. I will bring all of my medications with me and a list of symptoms I have made. And I will try to view my case files before the hearing.

Good luck at the meeting. I hope it goes well for you. Is the person who's representing you your foster mother?
-
Think he said it was his case worker, and yes, good luck, pentagram.

Yes, it is my case worker who is representing me.

Well, I went to the hearing. I was interviewed by a disability officer, then my representative was interviewed. I should be getting a letter from disability determination at the end of the month or so.

I'm being allowed to renovate the granny flat above the garage. We're all living in it at the moment, but when the main house is done up my friend is going to live in the granny flat herself.

I dunno. I really hope they approve me this time around.

Looked at my legal rights, and what to do or not to do when it comes to the mail strike today.

I got off my lazy ass and got my trash outside and my laundry started, using the system Celticgoddess suggested
(work for 20 minutes, take a 10-minute break, and repeat that cycle over and over to get stuff done painlessly!).

Something right and slightly wrong. Bought about 25 cans of marked down food (dented, but still good) at good prices, but I really have no place to put them at the moment.

Before long, your diet will be full of unhealthy food and empty calories, just like the fat Americans'. :autism:
-
My diet already is crap. I don't get fat though as I don't eat that much of it, so it's ok. If I started getting fat I would obviously cut down and exercise more. There's nothing wrong with eating junk if you don't get fat
-

:facepalm2:

?
-
Obviously, a person's diet can consist of large amounts of junk food with no ill effects whatsoever, as long as that person does not become fat. It's not as if junk food contributes to diabetes, or heart disease, or malnutrition, or hypertension, etc. :orly:
-
When did I ever say anything about diabetes etc? I don't care about that. I was talking about fat people
-

I think the point is that your junk food habits might negatively impact your health even if you remain thin. :nerd!:
-
I'm sure they will, but I'm not bothered about that
-
I'm sure they will, but I'm not bothered about that
When you're older, you may have to be bothered about it. :(
-
I will probably have health problems when I'm older anyway though, even if I ate only healthy food. So I'm not gonna stop having it - I don't eat that much anyway and don't have chocolate, which most people eat
-

Eating healthy is like owning a gun for self-defense: it's a way of preparing for the worst that the future has to offer. In both cases, actions in the present could have the effect of making the future turn out better than it otherwise would have. All that is required is planning ahead.
-
^You really are stuck on the guns issue aren't you.

^You really are stuck on the guns issue aren't you.
I saw the opportunity to criticize two of Soph's positions at once. In my view, both are illogical and show a lack of planning for the future.

This has been my 1st full winter using my wood stove and I've managed to not burn the house down.
Brutal winter this year. Electric bill for December & January was $128 & $117......would have been over $200 each month without the wood stove insert.

All right heres one. Other day me and a bro were walking back from the strip mall, and we encounter a gigantic dog. My buddy acts like he's gonna piss his pants, and suddenly the dog acts agressive and starts following us. My pals all freaking out, when finally I inform him that dogs sense things humans don't, and the dog is just acting like that because of the image my buddy is portraying.
I promptly turn around, give the dog one of my famous "looks", and tell it to fuck off. It whined a little, and ran away. Go Rage eh? :green:

Well I hope you find a good one that doesn't hurt you. The one I go to is across the road from where I used to live with GA. I first went there when I chipped a tooth. I haven't had to have any other work done though so I must be looking after my teeth pretty well.

Good for you for taking good care of your teeth. I have needed some new fillings for awhile now, so I must get to it! :viking:

I had all my old fillings replaced with new hi tech plastic fillings in 2000. Fortunately I dod not need any new ones.

What's the advantage of the plastic fillings? I'd never even heard of them, but I'll bet they look better than metal! :orly:

If you have silver fillings from long ago, they usually contain mercury, which is considered dangerous now;

I'd heard about that but didn't know plastic fillings were now available. I must look into that! :orly:

I'm pretty sure they are the industry standard now cbc.

I'm pretty sure they are the industry standard now cbc.
All this time I've been getting amalgam. I'd better look into this! Do the plastic ones match your teeth, and are they a bit softer?
I am embarrassed about the amount of metal I have and would love to have fillings that blend better.

My dentist almost solely uses composite fillings. In Germany they were obligatory for females under 35 a couple of years ago, because of mercury dangers to unborn children. (They could get autism of course....)
There are pros and cons to composite fillings. Maybe this article on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dental_composite)can help you out a bit further. It can be made in a shade of ivory to match your teeth perfectly though, that is a nice thing indeed.
-
Two fillings I have match my teeth and you can't tell that they are there. I still have two metal fillings as well, they were done when I was about 12.

I started my :laundry: earlier this time, and it's already in the dryer!

well I dont want to get too graphic, but I kind of denied myself to help someone else out. Most people would have just layed there, but Im a nice girl. Too nice, probably.
It got everywhere, though, so maybe I didnt do such a good job afterall.
LOL I remember that.

Last night I dealt as rationally and constructively as possible with an OCD-triggered episode of worry. My meds lessen the anxiety
and make it easier for me to think things through, but I still give myself credit for taking certain steps to deal with the situation. :viking:

I have to say, I have never counted on either a rich man or an inheritance coming to my rescue.
The only miracle I've been waiting for has been a sudden clarity of purpose to drive me toward success.
That's not likely to fall out of the clouds any more than the rich man or the inheritance, but I am working on finding it within my flighty brain! :2thumbsup:

I got really mad with someone today, got quite vocal too, and told the person to leave my house.
It worked, short and sweet. I felt good after that. :viking:
My oldest said she was a bit angry with me, for having this row, and that she was a bit angry with the other person for the same reason too.
I have told her I was sorry for having this row where she was attending, but also that I was damn proud of myself that I had started it.
That led to some good daughter-mum talking.

Otherwise, I would either have felt bad, because the guilt-tripping succeeded, or because I was mad with me letting myself get fooled again.
I like the clarity of this outcome. I'm just grinning.

Well, I didn't actually do this right, it just happened this way. PA was the first guy who asked me to marry him. Hell, he was the first guy I'd had more than 5 dates with. We were almost 35 (me) and 43 (PA). We'd never lived with anyone, never been married before and were mature enough that we were mostly grown in our opinions, values and attitudes. Our marriage isn't a bed of roses, but it's definitely a very large bouquet of life.

Thanks! It's more like a "scenario" exam. Your given a situation, car accident, heart failure in a mall, fire, etc and the test is to see how well you perform in your role. It's a test and training combined, so far I'm doing well. There's more to come.

Bought flowers for the partner. Sounds stupid but I've been having the damnedest time figuring out how you're supposed to time such things.

Had a talk with the team-leader of the woman who still hasn't referred me for an EEG.
Seems the woman is sick this week, so she can't fix it now. She had a whole week to fix a two month neglect before she got sick though.
The team-leader is now on to it, and has asked me to contact him again next week if I haven't had a positive phone-call from her by then.

I turned off my air conditioners overnight to lessen the drying effect on my sinuses; I think my allergy symptoms have decreased now.

I thought the bronchitis would clear up on its own, since I was no longer feverish and
felt so much better. However, I am still very congested and so I need more help than just
the cough syrup. Now that I have the antibiotics, I should be over this in no time! 8)

toung and groove siding is siding that goes along the lines of this shape
______
<_____< the "toung" or bulge on the left fits into the "Grove" or indent on the left. i dont know about the nails. only ever helped do flooring and that was glued down, not nailed. either way i suppose you should nail the siding in as glue may deteriorate over time?

Ah, thank you. It now makes sense. Even the nails. Panels placed like that do need nails.
Was fun to imagine Parts having a side job as a freaky plastic surgeon though.

WE call it "messing en groef". So, no body parts mentioned in our flooring and panelling.

It is how I got asthma in the first place when I was 18. Now I have to take meds every day for it. There are different types and severities too. GA has it and she gets wheezy. Whereas if I forget my meds I start coughing a lot and get phlegm in my bronchial tubes from the irritation.
I have had a few attacks but nothing really serious. And QV is right, you do advise others to go to the doctor very quickly so you should do the same.

Yes, my chest X-ray is today and afterward I will make an appointment to follow up! 8)

There are a few asthma specific tests they can do too. Do you have a regular doctor that knows you well?

Yes, I am going to her office today for the X-ray, I will ask her to test me. :)

The system works differently here than it does there. Here, you have to see the doctor first before getting any prescriptions or scans of any type because it is the doctor that write/orders them.

My doctor orders that stuff too but she is willing to phone in prescriptions because I get
the same problem year after year after year. She ordered the chest X-ray and will be
looking at it later today, I am so intrigued and can't wait to see what she finds!

Hopefully it is minor and can be fixed easily. I am just surprised she didn't test you for asthma when you get infections every year. Really surprised.

I remember my lung functioning was tested one year with a device that I had to blow into,
and even with bronchitis my lungs were working at 98% of capacity, so I never asked about
asthma testing because I assumed asthmatic lungs would have functioned far worse.
-
When tested with that thing (peak flow I think), mine and GA's lungs are actually pretty good too but we both still have asthma. Maybe there is no definitive test for asthma, not sure.

How were you diagnosed. what made your doctor conclude you have asthma? :orly:
-
I had a few chest infections in a row (would get over one and then get another) and then I remember waking up one day wheezing and tried to go about the day as normal but this shortness of breath was audible so I said to mum I couldn't breathe properly. She took me to the doctor and my peak flow wasn't that good right then because I was having an asthma attack. Normally, it is the same as everyone else's. The doctor had a sample of Ventolin right there which I took and it relieved the wheezing.
I was prescribed Pulmicort (preventer) and Bricanyl(sp) (for acute attacks) and did I take the preventer like I should? No, because I thought I didn't need it. I just kept having attacks and used the Bricanyl until I learnt that using the preventer means I don't have constant asthma. Now I am on a different preventer called Seretide that works better than Pulmicort did.

All the times I've raised someone's spirits by saying something as simple as, "Thank you. That was nice of you to....."

That first line made me think of my grandmother. She made a real effort to do that. She did have a pretty sharp tongue.
Would have loved to have known her longer than I did.

Today I politely declined an invitation to an Easter brunch. I like the family that's
hosting it, but I went last year and it ended up being about a six-hour day, which is
a bit long for me to be out socializing. My brother (who conveyed the invitation)
remarked that both he and a friend of ours have noticed my tendency to "shut down"
after a few hours of socializing. I don't have sensory or speech problems but I do
get tired and withdrawn and long to be home. I am not a good guest for longer
than a few hours. Living alone is very beneficial to me. :nicegear:

My dinner was awesome.
And thanks for the post above CBC, reminds me to tell my oldest to take something with her, if she wants to withdraw from the company at the Easter brunch tomorrow. I'll go for the shutting down, or ending up in Lego with my nephew and youngest niece.

We have had breakins in the neighborhood mailboxes so I went door to door to collect money for a night vision camera to monitor who is breaking into the mailboxes. Anyway it must have gotten out that there was a hidden camera because they stopped breaking in the mailboxes and they even stopped tagging it. So even though we never found out who did it we stopped them from stealing our mail.

I know. That's why I never divulged WHICH set of mailboxes was to have the actual camera. I told the donors not to tell anyone where the camera was going to be set up because I knew if people knew which mailboxes were monitored and which ones weren't they'd only go after the unmonitored mailboxes. When I was asked by a non donor I lied and said " I haven't decided yet".because I knew it would get out. People have big mouths. Anyway, it worked. :mischief:
-
We don't have mailboxes as a rule. We have front doors with a letterbox. Postman shoves mail through hole, and bingo it is safely in your property and the family mutt is free to rip it to shreds :zoinks:
-
^we should have that but the postal workers are too lazy to do their jobs. They shove everything they can into the mailbox instead of leaving packages infront of the door. Also their union makes sure they get paid a lot. My mother has complained about how they shove everything into the mailboxes so it is almost impossible to get them out from the other side. She has arthritis and you'd think they'd build mailboxes that aren't so easy to break into.

And if the packages are too big to fit in the mailbox, they'll just leave a pink slip without even bothering to knock on the door. I've had this happen to me multiple times. I'd say pay the extra few bucks to have it shipped via UPS or FedEx, fuck the USPoS.
-
Ive never had a problem with the USPS. but have had several problems with FedEx, Including me paying a high fee for overnight shipping, next day delivery when infact they sent it priority 3 day. business class or some shit, now this was when i was buying my crack from my favorite customer in safford. And we were both upset, so I cant/he wont sell me anything else without paypal from now on because of fucking FedEx.
also republicans need to fucking stop thier war on the postal service. I'm sick of there stupid shit

I too would feel lost without my microwave, air conditioners and internet! :spitscreen:

nothing of note in recent months.

Managed to get the kids on the subway to meet my sister and not get lost. Although as luck would have it, just as the kids were asking me why there were so many police officers mulling about a Palestinian protest broke out right in front of us. Never a dull moment in the city.

Wrote a nice email to someone I thought I could have inadvertantly offended.
Set up a surprise for someone I care about
Effectively doubled the sales of the second placed person in the sales comp at work. I want that prize (Have to hold them off for another 6 weeks)
The guy who was second place and really starting to get a stack of sales (at 4 sales off me)........has badly broken his leg playing soccer. I am more than double 3rd place...yay me. Oh and poor Cam. I don't think he will be in til probably the very end of the competition

While my workplace drastically changed over the previous quarter, I managed to keep my job.

Finding a new batch of courage to live on.
Don't know if I should give myself credit for bringing a runaway dog back to her house. Heard later that her house is not the best place for her. They don't even actively search for her, when missing, nor crave her back even if she has gone missing for almost a week. Had not seen her before, but, she seems to be a notorious run away doggy. When I found out where she belonged, I was not happy right away, because I have noticed how the kids are being treated there.
Don't know what I will do next time, when she spends the night in my front garden.

Was walking off the train when I noticed a guy two or three people ahead of me drop his Centrelink card and not be aware of it. I picked it up and ran to catch up and hand it to him. Losing a Centrelink card would be a real hassle.

Called my phone company because when I opened a new account they forgot to add in the long distance plan so I was charged for all of my long distance calls which I make a lot of. Convinced them to add the plan and give me a credit for this months calls. :2thumbsup:

I just got rid of 7 bags of trash, a bag full of recyclable paper and cardboard, and
two bins of recyclable plastic stuff, and the apartment looks so much bigger! :2thumbsup:
-
^I am starting to wonder what your place looks like with so much paper and recyclables. I am a minimalist and so either like to file paperwork that I may need later away or throw it out. My mum went on at me for throwing paperwork out without shredding it first though because of identity theft.

Fear of identity theft is what compelled me to keep so much paperwork for so many years.
All three of my closets have been packed with plastic bags stuffed with paper clutter!
Now that I have THE SHREDDER, and have become ruthless about discarding stuff, I'm
seeing empty space for a change! But I am dealing with 24 years' worth of accumulation,
so it's going to take awhile longer. I plan to hire my friend's son and the crew from his
furniture store to haul away all my unwanted furniture and appliances when I'm through
sorting; that will free up a lot more space! My voice will echo in the empty rooms!

It looks as if a slob lives in it. But it's getting better. Unlike many of my fellow hoarders,
I am neither a shopper nor a decorator, and I don't willingly collect anything. 8)

Resisted the overwhelming urge, somehow.

Today at work I was carrying a big sheet pan full of sandwiches when my right ankle
wobbled outward, as it sometimes does, causing me to fall forward. I landed gently and
quietly on my left knee and rose to my feet, never having let go of the pan of sandwiches.
I did not drop a single one. My boss didn't see this remarkable feat, I wish that she had!

Knowing that Itunes sucks, and still not using it.

Answered an emergency call and went to work unexpectedly to help someone finish working on a house. This for me is a big deal, I have a very hard time changing my plans mid day and normally make up an excuse not to but I have been working to change that.

We bent the voting rules today and helped voters we weren't technically able to help. I'm not about to tell someone no one can help them vote if it doesn't say on the rolls that they need assistance. If the bosses weren't around, we just did the common, decent thing.

My kids don't really watch the preschool shows anymore. Thank god. I can tolerate some sesame street, but most of the shows for that age are god awful. Dora makes me want to pull out my eyes and shove them in my ears. http://www.hulu.com/watch/1610 (http://www.hulu.com/watch/1610)

All the teen programs from abroad are dubbed here using the voices of the same handful of people. So, all programs sound the same. And on suite life, every person in the series that wasn't there every part of the series was done by one and the same person, someone with a terribly annoying voice. Horrible.

Why are your teeth breaking?
Jawbreakers?

Also, looking around my building, I realize that while the other tenants are tidier than I am, most of them store
large amounts of their personal stuff in the common areas of the building ( landings, laundry room ), despite the
landlords' request that they not do so. I may be a horrible slob; at least I keep the mess on my own turf. :M

I stayed calm when I broke my tooth, and I got my laundry done!
Why are your teeth breaking?
Jawbreakers?
My front teeth broke because they were worn thin from decades of grinding. Now a few of my molars,
which have huge silver fillings with fragile shells of enamel outside, are breaking because they are old and brittle.
My dentist will surely have an ( expensive :P ) plan to fix this one. Meanwhile I must be careful biting into things!

Brown rice with a squirt of lemon juice, and eggs (yolks intact) cooked over sauteed onions and pepper. At the end I added a swirl of sriracha sauce to the eggs.
And of course, a teeny bit of salt added to the rice (along with olive oil), and the seasoning for the onions also included some salt.

You are correct. I remember when I was the dishwasher/busser at this retirement community and I had to get people there drinks, this one lady swore up and down that I gave her the wrong drink. I don't remember what flavor she wanted and what she ultimately ended up getting but she made it an international incident by calling my boss over to taste her drink for her because she just knew I gave her the wrong one. And the thing that really pissed me off is while everyone there was clearly elderly, this bitch looked like she was in her 30's. I wanted to grab her head and slam it on the table when she was causing such a scene, :thumbdn:

I had to work in the dining room and kitchen. I think this area here really is use to Mexican immigrants, obviously they work really fast. and while I was quick, I couldn't keep up. Once I put a cup in the ice and holy shit, some rata in the kitchen threatend to call the county health inspectors because I made a mistake.
What I should have done was gently slide the ice tongs down my butt crack when nobody was looking, giving them a real reason to tattle on me! :evillaugh:

I really dislike the word credit nowadays. I associate it with a sinister evil dark hole filled with flesh devouring insects and never ending sounds of ringing phones, elevator music, and voices saying "options" and "press 1".

Found a stack of credit/debit cards and a 5 and 20 dllar bill folded neatly on top also a driver's license. Thought it was my moms. It was some guys. He is a student here so I ave it to the security guy who ound him because his cards had his name on it. He got his stuff returned. My mom wanted me to leave it there but I said someone mght steal it.

Not sure if I have written this before, but I signed up and have been accepted as a bone marrow donor. Got a card for it too (which I have misplaced during moving). I found out something interesting; if I donate bone marrow, I can't donate again for another 2 years.

I think that is the case. Also, the extraction process involves general anaesthetic.

Wrote one to a very good friend of my brother. I found an article that I thought would interest him, and wrote a letter to go with it.
On BD's, my brother, his friend and his wife, and I, tend to find a place of our own, to have great conversations.
It has been way too long, that I sat down to write a letter, using pen and paper. I liked it. And, as usual, I put some theme stamps on the envelope. This time with quotations and pictures of Dutch writers.

Today, I think I figured out how to use the other brain hemisphere without destroying the important circuitry.
Either that, or it is damaged :/
-
The other? As in the right hemisphere?
-
No, the left one. I used to just overpower the right one, but it couldn't take it anymore.
Using both hemispheres for the same things is pretty weird.
-
I didn't know you could direct your (in the general sense) brain as to what hemisphere to use. Am I getting something wrong here?

No, you're not.

I claim to be roughly aware of my brain activity and to react according to it, with zero evidence to support that.
Though, there is neuro feedback training and it shows that you can learn to influence your brainwaves and change if areas get activated given that you are aware of it (by the technology, like PET scans and EEGs).

At least you're honest about it.

Were you like this little fellow? :raining:

Kind of. I was out on an island, and it started to rain. There is a shelter, but since the rain didn't seem to stop I had to walk over a kilometer through it when it was bucketing down :thumbdn:

After a meltdown in the morning, I still managed to make the rest of the day a good day, yesterday.
-
I knew when things became overwhelming and instead of melting down and freaking out, I just took a break.
And now my optimism and curiosity are returning... :green:
-
I got through my total inertia yesterday afternoon. After doing nothing all morning, I clipped hedges till I ran out of space to keep the foliage, did two washings, and made a good meal too. Everything, apart from a tiny morsel of potato got devoured.
-
I made inquiries about a new career path, and have gotten some information and a new contact to consult. 8)

Some of my back teeth have huge fillings and weak enamel and are in need of crowns.
Today I started with the one most in need, a molar that had a root canal in 2011. I spent 2.5 hours at the dentist,
having the tooth ground down (almost painless, since the nerve is gone) and being fitted with a temporary crown
(stuck on with permanent adhesive) till the permanent crown comes back from the lab in about 3 weeks.

I'm still sane enough to realize that I'm crazy.

I had a real big disappointment with someone. So I did the suggested thing about letting them go. I imagined them as a little, tiny bunny in my hands. I knelt down to let the bunny go.
As it hopped away I realized I was going about this all wrong. I didn't need to let her go. I needed to walk away from the situation. So I stood up, turned my back and walked away.
I accepted that the problem was with me, not them (true). I had built up unreasonable expectations. I think I grew up just a wee bit more with this exercise.

I felt grateful for the silence when I cam home because the guest in using her headphones now :)
I could have been annoyed about not having headphones...but I thought "Wait a minute you ungrateful bastard! You can actually sit and relax in peace! This is much better than it was. Take a minute to appreciate it."
And so I did. I was so grateful in fact that I gave the guest a hug. She was really excited about that and asked why, and I told her thank you for wearing headphones. :)
Sometimes I gotta remember to be grateful for the little things...especially if someone else is doing it.

I'm proud of myself for using an on line budgeting tool it's 4 bucks a month however it's good to keep track of my spending and seeing where stuff is going, been doing this sense last month and it has helped tons...for an autie it's a good way to visually see what is coming in and going out...it's called Budget Tracker, took a bit of getting used to and playing around with but I've got it down now, save my receipts and enter them in when I spend or when I deposit...big step for me because in the past money has been an issue...I'm also getting my debt under control with legal help, the woman that helps me is so sweet...it's nice to get a handle on these things makes me feel good...

In spite of having no meds for the past month and limted meds for the past nine months, I have managed to pay all of my bills on time.
I confess to being the tiniest bit obsessive about this since the past Mr. Train Wreck would pay some bills twice, send the wrong check to the company, or find an unpaid bill in a stack of opened envelopes two months later. I have to blame another bit of it on Py, who said to me a few years ago, "If you get everything now, what will you have to collect in the future?" (We were shopping for dice). I actually have a good credit rating which in 10 months of train wrecks in other areas, I've only managed to harm instead of destroy.
I suspect that after years of using spreadsheets and tables to keep track, I actually may have developed a habit. :green:

Finished grading the finals half an hour ahead of time in spite of being deathly ill last night and passing out after rock climbing and dinner this evening. normally i would be putting in placeholder grades and working into the wee (but not weeble) hours of the morning trying to finish. not just finished the grading either. the dishes are also done - usually i do them after i finish grading. I will be going to bed early tonight. Celebrating by eating one of my homemade chunky bars. Then maybe a session with the tens unit and then to bed early.
no :trainwreck: tonight!
where is the "you rock!' emoticon?

all in one day managed to disable my three best computers and then get two of them working again. the one that isn't working yet hasn't been tested.
-
I've really been kicking ass at work the last few days. I decided to become more proactive and start
doing things ahead of schedule whenever I can do so without compromising freshness. For example, I can
make desserts ahead of time because we always freeze them anyway. I can peel and chop raw vegetables
days ahead of their scheduled use because we store them in buckets of water in the cooler. Stuff like that.
I've really been hustling lately and getting a lot done in a day, because I'd rather do it without being told.
If I wait till a project is assigned, it feels like a chore; if I do it proactively, it feels like a WIN. 8)
-
This is something I've done more by default than by design, but anyway ... I've stayed in a
fairly low-skilled job that is arguably beneath my mental capacities, and that's probably been
the best course for my overall mental health. I don't have the temperament to be any kind of
boss, or to deal with people in a service capacity, so I may be doing less than I "should" be doing
with my intelligence ... but there's more to me than intelligence. :tard:

a shampoo manufacturer was trying to increase sales. He involved the whole company in the effort. The winning entry:
Lather, rinse, repeat.
I use a whole lot less of most everything. A small pea size of toothpaste, a minute amount of moisturizer. etc. It has saved me money over the years. After all, if you put something on thickly, the top layer isn't doing anything but making someone else richer. Ditto for toothpaste dripping from your chin.

The PR bowls twice a week with two other handicapped girls. She wants to bowl today as well. I said she could.
She told me that she had texted one of the Kelseys to see if she was coming bowling today (not one of The PR's days).
Awesome because it's the first time she's texted someone out of the family and because this Kelsey is deaf (cochlear implant).
Weird. I just realized that all three ladies have multiple handicaps.
(It sometimes gets confusing because we have Kelsey L S(last initial), Kelsey M S(last initial) and Nellie. Occasionally a man, Wesley, comes to the alley. Then it's really a tongue twister: Kelsey, Kelsey, Wesley and Nellie.

Awesome. The PR seems to make more progress, lately.

I accidentally stole a package of batteries from the store. Yes, accidentally. :P The package fell to
the bottom of my shopping cart, where it was obscured from view under a couple of sale flyers. I
found it by accident while loading my bags into the waiting cab. So as soon as I got home, I called
the store and reported my accidental theft and promised to return soon and pay for the batteries.
Yesterday I brought the empty package to the store to be scanned, and I paid what I owed. :M

That reminds me of when I was writing papers in school and found a flawed metaphor that
made the whole paper worthless ... and reread the material, and came up with a new metaphor.
I love finding flaws and working to fix problems. Hell, I loved fixing my toilet seat the other day! :fixin:

Applying for voluntary work with the elderly.
Getting back to the gym after going onto a fecking shitty med called Cymbalta which had me shooting up 3 sizes in 3 months from being at 12% bodyfat.
Lord, the time it took me to face walking back into that gym.
Continuing a fanfiction I had stopped writing over a decade ago, lol.
-
I have been on Cymbalta too, and it didn't have that effect on me. Seroquel certainly did though. 30kgs worth. Never take that.
Did you switch meds?

Nope. I took myself off them... tapered off. I was on it for 9 months or so, but the weight gain didn't kick in really until the final 3 months. It also took away the anger it was given to me for, but took away all desire to do anything at all. I didn't go out for 8 months apart from to the local shop. I hit the highest weight I have ever been in my life on that crap and still working to get it off. Think I am down 1.5-2 sizes in my few months back at the gym, but that med totally changed my body composition. This is how I looked before I went on it.

Thanks.
Just about to get back to 1 to 1 training to finish the job off... need the boxing/pad work, lol.
But I must admit, it is harder this time round to motivate myself even with the gym being a 4 minute walk away.
-
I went to the gym 3 times a week for over a year. Lost 2 kilos and gained muscular (for me) calves. Still very fat though. I suspect lithium is preventing me from losing any weight but at least I have reached a plateau and am not gaining any more.
Graelwyn, you look like a marathon runner.
-
Impressive, Graelwyn.
And I definitely don't want to demotivate you , but I do like the softer look of your face on the overweight picture.
-
Oh! I can claim a similar weight loss ....over the course of 2-3 years. But then I don't do gym, and I've never ben able to lose weight fast , no matter what.
My weight-loss is down to a high carb , extremely low fat diet, which I find totally suits me. Wish I'd figured that out long ago. My body doesn't do anything much with fat...except store it for later.

Haha, I wish I could run at least a half marathon, but due to having COPD, running was always hardest of all. Any exercise I do beyond walking and weights is very uncomfortable anyway. I did come in as the first woman in the first and only 5k I ever did though, when I had not even run in weeks. I think bloody mindedness kept me going. I was about 3rd in I think out of over 100.

That's awesome. Running halfway down the street (only halfway, can't do any more) for the bus is my limit.

I wasn't overweight at that point... just at the top end of BMI for my height which I really, really hated, especially given most of it was fat.
I know my face gets more drawn when I am training... I just learnt to live with it as I prefer that over a flabby body I cannot stick in any decent clothing without feeling self conscious, lol.
Congrats on your own weight loss. Tomorrow, I hit the boxing stuff again and am doing 1 to 1.

When you first started posting here almost 10 years ago, I thought you were anorexic and needed to put on at lest some weight.
In your case, a few extra ponds wouldn't hurt, just keep yourself at a healthy weight and don't feel self conscious about it.

Ahh! so that's what "grim determination " looks like! I probably have the exact same look on my own face, at times
I just read Scappy's comment, and he does have a point. I do get it that it's what you are comfortable with, but it is certainly possible to overdo it.
Btw, I don't really feel I deserve congrats , now I have the trick of it. I just ignore the conventional l health advice and eat loads of boiled sweets . :green: Well, Ok , Ok that's a teeny bit over-simplified. I also avoid fat, but then I was getting such nasty reactions to fatty foods when I first lit on this idea, that it's all-too-easy to equate that with being kind to myself.
Actually , I don't much like boiled sweets . :( what a waste of a golden opportunity to self-indulge, huh? Why couldn't this happen to somebody who likes the things instead?

Yah, when I first posted here, I wasn't eating properly, and I was not fit.
I then decided, back in 2011/2012, to try and change my mindset from wanting to be really thin, to wanting to be fit and strong... I mean, let's face it, I am gone 40 now and my body just will not allow me to hover below the minimum weight for my height anymore. It is still a challenge and I was actually anorexic in my late teens. Severely so to a point I almost died several times from organ failure. I was, if I recall, 70Ibs at 5'11...lost an inch in height due to it.
When I am at the gym, well, it is a point of focus for me and an effective anti depressant most of the time. Not enjoyable though other than certain aspects, due to my 65% lung function.
Must admit though, I hated it when the trainer told me I was stronger than most women. I was outdoing the guys in some of the classes. You know, there is this stereotype that women are meant to be physically weaker and all of that crap. Taken me a long time to get past that.

Impressive, Graelwyn.
And I definitely don't want to demotivate you , but I do like the softer look of your face on the overweight picture.
Ahh! so that's what "grim determination " looks like!
It's interesting how different bodies react so differently to various diets. I actually got to 12% bodyfat while intaking a lot of healthy fats, like nuts and avocado as well as what some may still view as less healthy fats, such as full fat dairy. I was also having a reasonable amount of carbs and at times, up to 160g of protein per day. Probably as much down to the intensity of my training as anything though, that I could get away with eating 3500 calories a day or more, and not gain anything. Most likely, the medication that had me gain a shitload of weight, has lowered my metabolism for the time being.

Yeah, I think you hit the nail on the head there. Pity the medical establishment is so unwilling to take it on boarsd that different bodies also react very differentlt to different drugs. I'm sure my metabolism has always been really slow, due to the fat-conversion problem; and most of those psychotropic drugs tip it right over the edge, so that I'm sleeping all the time and feeling like shit when I'm awake. never mind if it doern't list "drowsy" as a side-effect (the ones that do, are even worse) .What's more most other drugs have unexpected effects on me, from no therapeutic effect to highly exaggerated therapeutic effect. Nothing seems to do me any good besides stimulants and I can get those from the corner shop(caffeine and nicotine) . I'm now , literally allergic to almost everything else, which doesn't feel dreadfully tragic. I'm thinking "Good. they can now stop pretending they know what they're doing, and go experiment on somebody else" :green:

Yup, I seem to get terrible effects with most meds now, Cymbala obviously being the last one... I mean, in the sense I stopped caring about anything at all was a relief for a while, from the daily anger fits, but on the other hand, I was not going out and was getting more and more unfit and unhealthy. I was always tired too. Prozac makes me more aggressive so that is out. I don't think there is any med that could simply disable my anger without disabling other things. I guess the gym will have to do for now, and trying to bring things into my life that give me some sense of achievement...which is where a lot of my anger stems from... feeling useless and without purpose.
I cannot tolerate stimulants either, lol. I have to avoid caffeine, other than weak tea, or my anxiety shoots right up.

Yah, and this gym attracts a lot of students... you know, young girls who are already very small and in good shape, lol. It is hard not to compare oneself. That said though, my trainer was always unimpressed by those who came in and worked out with a full face of makeup and the new gym gear, without putting any effort in.

Well , their make-up would run if they worked up a sweat wouldn't it? Meh. Our culture is way too superficial, hence the woprship of youth and the daft quest for eternal youth. Givbven that it's mostly women that are expected to devote themselves to beomng a ptretyty little airhead all their life, it's bloody sexist too. That said, i note that boys are increasingly jumping on that bandwagon., FFS. *sigh* It's a loser's game- l;iterally. I mean, you can't get better at it, can you? you can only get worse at it, as time erodes all the progress you make. Don't be cowed by them , graelwyn, just thank your lucky stars you're not that stupid. Wjhat the heck have those girls got to look forward to?

Managed a very intense training session with my old trainer last night, and 30 km in 1 hour 3 minutes on the exercise bike, on interval training setting. I passed the fitness test/training session with my trainer which surprised me, as how the hell did I get back there after over a year sat on my backside to a point I could not walk without pain for months? For anyone interested, this is what he had me do in those 55 minutes.
1)10 kg medicine ball. Knees bent, squat down, pick up, hold above head and slam down on floor. Repeat 20 times.
2)5kg medicine ball ~ knees bent ~ slam down, catch and repeat 20 times
3)Get a step ~ step up and holding 4kg dumbbells, punch the air, step down ~ repeat 20 times
4)Get a step ~ one leg either side ~ step up one leg at a time, with 4kg dumbells and punch air 10 times, switch which leg goes on step first and repeat.
5)Get a step ~ squat, then jump onto it, jump back off and using the step for hands, do a pushup, then 10 x leg pulls to chest. Repeat 5 times then do again with 10 leg pulls to either side(opposite side to leg)
6)Lay on back, semi sit up, and punch higher up, 40 times, different positions.
7)Get a step, do a burpee, then jump over the step sideways, both legs together and do another burpee. Repeat until done 10 burpees.
8)Get a small gym ball and balance elbows on it. Come up onto toes, keep back up, and hold for as long as possible. Basically a plank on a gym ball.
9) 4 rounds of boxing, including having to do a burpee first, followed by hooks, jabs, ducks etc.
Few more pics from tonight, after the cycling.

Thanks :2thumbsup: It's sure coming at a cost... I cannot lift them properly today as I made the mistake of doing weighted ropes the day after all the rest of it. Shoulders... Taking a shower will be interesting. I think tonight will have to be a day off as I have done 8 days in a row.

Did some sports this morning, at the local gym. Fun small group of people, working out for themselves, no showing off. With laughter. Laughing is good for the abs.

You did it, you finally caught up on four months' worth of backlogged insurance claims. Excellent work.
Now, prep and address all the envelopes.

Still hitting the gym although only 4-5 times a week. Now volunteering at a lunch club for the elderly and frail even though it is a morning start. I just stay up and sleep after. It involves helping prepare and serve their meals. Clear up. Talk to the people especially those who seem to be alone. Then I generally play a game of scrabble with a group that includes a lady of 97 who is incredibly sharp and mobile still and who can recite poems from memory. This is just whole I wait for the befriending to be approved which involves waiting for paper forms because they decided my ID was not enough without that even though I provided three pieces. Just cannot afford to pay for a passport just to volunteer. Also making my own Christmas cards using cross stitch and have met someone on Second Life who lives local to me to hang out with sometimes. So I suppose those might be considered slight achievements.

Slight achievements? That's awesome , Graelwyn. :2thumbsup:
Given how isolated and depressed you were recently, it's a great relief to see how outgoing you are at present.. The voluntary work is an especially good idea, for improving self-esteem ( Btw, I've read that when asked about their motivations for volunteering, the more honest and self-aware respondents tend to say that they're in it to improve their self-self esteem. The ones who are in it just because their heart overflows with pure goodness don't make such good volunteers . You can probably guess why not.)
Keep it up!

On the spur of the moment after visiting The PR, I stopped into a "quickie" oil change place. Wise decision. I had no oil left. I definitely do not need to have an auto breakdown now.
Next on the list, coolant change, brakes, serpentine belt.

Had a vehicle years ago that burned through oil like crazy when it got up in miles. It never leaked or smoked so it was weird; had to check it weekly.

My first car was like that with transmission fluid. Went through heaps of it but no leak.

My first car was a bit like that. (checked 'only' every fortnight).
With my second car I was stunned that I did not have to refill oil all the time. Found it hard to trust that it really did not need that oil in the beginning.

The Matrix has almost 130,00 miles on it (2003 model). I knew about needing the oil change and the repair work (including a slight oil leak) for over 6 months. I just kept shuffling it to the bottom of the deck.
I'm going to be more proactive in the future. (It's hard to be proactive in the past, isn't it?)

Yesterday my computer stopped playing sound on YouTube videos. That's a major gripe,
since about 40% of my computer use is for music. Fortunately there was a prompt on the
video in question that led me to the correct sequence of actions. I re-enabled sound playing
and saved the day! It took a few attempts to make it stick, but I did it. :viking:

I spoke to a bunch of strangers today and had actual pleasant conversations with them. I'm going to try to up the number next time. One old woman took a disliking to me, but hey ho, everyone else took a liking to me. A couple of bus drivers were very off with me too, but that didn't stop me.

by now py has forgotten that she did this so i am posting it. on sunday we had about four inches of snow and poor plowing. this is py's first winter driving. going around a corner the car started to fishtail and she did exactly the right things. she's heard instructions, i think, but no experience.
i was astounded and very proud.

I was assigned the task of cleaning our three ovens at work. I got one done easily two days ago,
but the hardest one to do is the big top oven that's almost constantly on and in use. I figured I would
spray the oven cleaner in it last night and finish the job this morning, but then I realized it would
take too much time out of a busy morning, so I stayed late and did it last night. Good call. 8)

^ My mum once used oven cleaner that was so strong, the screws from the inside started coming out and shooting across the room. Maybe the oven you cleaned was more the catering type, though, so I'd assume that sort of thing wouldn't happen.
I used to clean the showerhead by leaving it in cheap vinegar. It works REALLY well, comes out like new. Except once I left it for too long and it affected the rubber.

That foam board you get in packing or the hobby aisle is also great insulation on the sides and cuts easily if the cardboard doesn't quite cut it.

Good job.
That foam board you get in packing or the hobby aisle is also great insulation on the sides and cuts easily if the cardboard doesn't quite cut it.
Thank you for the tip! I will keep it in mind as the summer goes on. 8)

I took my friend to the doctors AND hospital yesterday. I waited on my own for 50 minutes while she was getting treatment. Thankfully I had some pain meds with me - the hospital lights gave me a headache.
Afterwards, I visited my older sister at home. She had her gallbladder out a few days ago. She needs rest now. I got her a get well card. I think she liked it.

After moping about my shoulder pain, I did some online research and regained my scientific curiosity.
I now have a couple of plans in mind for addressing the problem. Curiosity straightens out my head. 8)

Took a nice walk with Carla today and picked up the roadside trash on the section that I have "adopted" as my cleaning responsibility. Not as many beer cans/bottles as I normally find! Put the recyclables in recycling and the trash in the appropriate container!

Could it be bursitis? My shoulder hurt for more than 6 months before I caved and went to the doctor. He sent me for an ultrasound. I had that and got told I had bursitis. After that it rapidly got better on its own. I didn't need a cortisone injection.
What are your plans?

I have found a half-dozen or so conditions online that could be what I have. :autism:
I rescheduled my orthopedic appointment for a week earlier, and I am going to have the shoulder X-rayed.
Also, this morning I am going to call my doctor and get an appointment for tomorrow, because
I'm getting worse by the day and I can't wait till next month. Maybe she'll order an MRI. :crossed:
Glad your bursitis cleared up, how long did it take? :orly:

Does it help to have hot water running over it when taking a shower?

A little, but not for long. I figured out that I can wash my hair, put it in the bun, and put on
my bra by bending over to avoid the painful reaching upward. I van manage for now, at least. :-\

Thank goodness I hired a pool company to turn that algae mess in my yard back into a swimming pool. Best money I've spent this season beyond the house itself.
-
Removed superfluous hair without turning myself into a hideous mass of razorburn and itching like I usually do. Either I've finally hit upon the ideal routine, or my skin is starting to toughen up.

Isn't all human hair superfluous? :zoinks:

I think about 8 months. It was pretty mild and the main time it bothered me was when I was at the gym and couldn't do any of the shoulder weights.

I've been considering trying hair removal cream, but I've heard it can damage the skin if used incorrectly. Maybe I should practice on a small furry rodent first, just to be on the safe side.

every side of the rodent is safe to test on.

Finally, a useful purpose for Gary! :gopher: >:D

I'm getting clever at using my left hand to spare my (dominant) right arm unnecessary strain
while I wait for a diagnosis of the shoulder problem. I might end up semi-ambidextrous! :orly:

Got out of bed at 8:07 this morning. Managed to get dressed, get meds together, put The PR's hair in a pony tail, partially pack her lunch, stop and pick a sandwich for her lonch, drive her to care ALL BY 9 o'clock.
P.S. No motorists were harmed while driving and no laws broken.

Is she enjoying the program? I'm sure you must be enjoying having some hours in the day to yourself :)

She's head over heels in love with it. She wouldn't even get out of the car on a visit to the place about 6 or 7 years ago. "I'm NOT going there!" Her first day was a wee bit rocky. She was trying to be friendly and called a Sihk client a "towel head." She did apologize and we looked up Sikh on the internet.
They had a water day today (hoses, balloons, sprinklers, etc.) today as a special treat.

I'm so happy to hear that. It's far easier on both of you when the transitions are smoother.
