I have a problem connecting to freenode.
« on: May 19, 2007, 03:00:00 AM »
I use a comcast for ISP and I cannot connect to freenode for any length of time.  Anyone know anything I can do?  This computer will not allow usage of Tor.
And as always, these are simply my worthless opinions.

Yes, but what is the different between a comcast and other kinds of ISPs?

The Comcast is a "regular" ISP, the most common cable company in the US, like Swedish Telia. I don't see in which way they'd stop you from using Tor.

You can use this free German service to ping your own computer for a test. My own speed was extremely good; less than 36 milliseconds, though I live pretty close to Germany, of course.

This laptop has some particular problem with running tor.  Every time it tries to listen in on the 127.0.0.1 channel it says that it cant, because it is already in use.

Do you use Firefox and the Torbutton? With the new versions of Firefox the browser simply sets itself once when you've installed the Torbutton and the Vidalia bundle (which includes both Tor and Privoxy). You just start Vidalia and Privoxy and then click the Torbutton.

You probably have an older version of Firefox. If you have IE too, uninstall Firefox completely and then download and install version 2.0 of it. Then it should work. I had exactly the same problem with older versions of Firefox.

any time i start privoxy or tor it says it cant bind to 127.0.0.1:8118 or 127.0.0.1:9050 because they are already in use, respectively.

Do you have the setting: "No proxy for: Localhost, 127.0.0.1"?
