well I'd say talk therapy has been the biggest help for me...that said finding a therapist that 'fits' takes time sometimes and patients on your part...

I'll also say be yourself, and if the therapist does most of the talking or you all the talking something is off for myself I've found it best when there is equal amounts of talking from my end and my therapists end, there will be days where one of you do more talking then the other that's OK and to be expected so don't put pressure on yourself in that regard it's just a general rule of thumb...

As far as medication goes I'd go the natural route first if I could have a do over...If you are Rx'ed anti depressants get them Rx'ed from a psyche not a family doc, another good rule of thumb...

Also, give yourself grace you are human and aside from being an autie which can heap problems on top of issues it seems know what your 'triggers' are and try to stay away from them or avoid as much as possible...

Write down what the triggers are so you know how you got from point A to point Z where is the rest of the alphabet? If you write it down how you got to xyz point then you'll find the other points and do a 'stop drop and roll' emotionally speaking...

It's hard I know I've had long term depression that I've been managing and some issues that I've in the last two years over come with the help of others, my faith and a willingness to get the help and change...Once you as a person gain tools and healing it's your job to stay that way, and reach out for help when you need it...

Hope this helps...blessings dear one

Keep busy, or basically work until you're ready to drop. :P

That probably sounds stupid as hell, but I have a hard time talking to anyone about anything...so for me that's the only thing that really ever helped.

The busier I am, the less time I have to think. The less time I have to think some days the better I feel. :dunno:

I used to get into a state of taking rote actions on the intellectual knowledge that at some point enough of them might make something better, even though I didn't give a shit and felt empty.

Keeping busy is sound advice. Work, exercise, anything.

Keeping busy, and knowing it will pass, one day, often is enough for me.

But, as Hannah said, therapy may help too. Did not have therapy for depression, but therapy getting more grip on life, actions reactions and such. Good therapist, helped when depressed too. But was not aimed at that.

At the moment, I can tick almost all boxes on a depression checklist. Going on and hoping it will pass, again.

Therapy,  medication, activity, change of routines and assess what you value.
I2 today is not i2 of yesteryear. It is a knitting circle. Those that participate be they nice or asshats know their place and the price to be there. Odeon is the overlord

.Benevolent if you toe the line.

Think it is I2 of old? Even Odeon is not so delusional as to think otherwise. He may on occasionally pretend otherwise but his base is that knitting circle.

Censoring/banning/restricting/moderating myself, Calanadale & Scrapheap were all not his finest moments.

Back to the seriousness of the topic.

If the depression is triggered/fed by things in your surroundings, see if you can make changes there.
If it comes from within yourself, medication, therapy and things like mindfulness may help. They may help too if things are triggered by stuff from your life, but when situations do not change, it is hard to counter depression.

That all said and done, situation in my life seems to get worse and worse. Right now, I have no valid advise for myself.

It does help some if you figure out what triggers it...even if you can't change anything or distance yourself from the cause...at least you know.

If you are dealing with another person's moods/depression it often has a whirlpool effect...or so I've found it will with me.

I try to grab happiness when I can find it...even if it's something like cooking my favorite food, renting a favorite comedy, or sitting up until 3:00 am watching stupid youtube videos. A little self-gratification here and there doesn't  hurt. Try to do something you really like doing at least every single week, more often if possible, even if you have to literally kick yourself out the door to do it.

That. But don't do the 3:00 am thing too many nights in a row. Then it will be counterproductive.

All of this is well and good, but only treats the symptoms. I wasn't kidding. Hone your will.

I know why you are likely suffering from depression, and it must be painful. But with defeat and self abasement comes a profit. If you allow it to be processed, you will become stronger. To do this, you will need to be brave enough to stop justifying things in your mind and look at things as they truly are.

Good luck.

I know why you are likely suffering from depression,
Could simply be a matter of surviving the holidays.

Good luck, iceman.
