Also bought Brink for the sake of it and hope it's any good.

A friend of mine bought that and absolutely hated it after raving on about how much he wanted it and lectured me into buying it (I didnt in the end).

So don't get your hopes up.

Eh, I like to gamble sometimes when buying games, so that's no problem. :orly:

Usually I leave shit games on the back burner for when I'm desperate.

If it's a game I'm unsure of, I'll torrent it first and see what it's like. If I like it, I'll then buy it.

Whats the point of buying it, if you've already got it?

its often slightly easyer to "deal" w your game, if it is legally bought, such as patching it and such.
i remember my civilization game would often try to automatically patch itself whenever i attempted online gaming, which would simply render the game unplayable (cus it somehow fucked w the exe file to run the game itself)

i guess some also want the cover and booklet etc.

To support the developers and promote a trend of better quality games would be my reason. That is why I refused to buy games with invasive DRM, I only tolerate Steam because I can easily backup/restore my games with it and it auto-updates everything.

I won't be buying video games anymore. Or even pirating them for that matter. I'm gonna be a retro-gaming fag and just huddle with my MAME romset (and an Xbox 360 wired controller, ironically) from now on. :autism:

I had a MAME program and some roms, but since they ugraded the computer, they either didn't connect the drive they were on or made the files inaccesible for some fucking reason. Tried downloading a newer MAME version, but have no roms and no idea how to run the thing.

Well if I just used cracked versions then:

- most likely no multiplayer support, which is important to me since me and my friends play together a lot
- no patches, any attempt will mean losing any cracks applied
- no support
- possible bugs caused by cracks (sims 2 comes to mind, no-cd crack disables house building)

I try and buy my games from steam as much as possible, because it's one of the few places that doesn't treat you like some thief. You can download them as much as you like and play them on as many computers as you like once they've steam installed. No need for fiddly DVDs or any sort of stupid anti-piracy checks. The save sync and auto-updates are quite handy too, but only if you have a decent connection.

The only criticisms of steam is the awkward offline mode and it's insistence to auto-patch before playing. It's also pretty useless if you don't have a decent connection with a decent download limit, but then again what is useful with such a connection?

EA really pisses me off because of their tactics when it comes to PC games. Due to companies like them, it's no wonder why piracy is high and PC gaming is slowly dying outside sources like steam.

When it comes to other software, I have no problems torrenting and not buying, especially when it comes to programs like Photoshop. They're fucking expensive otherwise.

Have you tried MAMEUI (formerly MAME32)?

UI = User Interface, right? No, haven't tried that. The version we hyad running is MAME32, from at least a couple of years ago. Downloaded it with the roms using Limewire, and it worked really well.

Then the computer bit the dust in Cyclone Yasi, and had to be upgraded. The fuckers were meant to put everything back as it was, but instead put in another Primary drive, copied everything to e: drive and did something where we need admin access to recover the rest. The partitioned f: and g: drives are meant to be there, which had all the games and stuff, but the CMOS isn't showing them. Fucking computer repair places. AAAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHHH!

Yep, user interface. It used to be called MAME32 but they changed the name to MAMEUI for some reason. It's pretty much the same, just browse through the list of games you have, it has filters and searches, etc.

I would recommend that you download the latest version of MAMEUI and then search for a torrent of a romset for the latest version of MAME itself (0.143 right now). 20 GB, but it's more than worth it IMO.

@Schleed. Pirated games are usually easy to patch. It does mean that the original crack wont work, but its easy enough to download a crack that works with your upgrade from a site like Gamecopyworld.

That's often fiddly, time consuming and a bit of a hit/miss affair. There is no absolute guarantee there will be a new crack when a patch comes out, and that has happened to me quite a few times. That's one of the main reasons why I started buying games again.

Even then I can't play multiplayer on most of them, regardless if they're patched up or not. As I said before, this is quite important to me since me and my friends do play online a lot.

Not influenced by it but the first one I remember playing was Breakout. It was in a bar my older brother took me to, he was supposed to be watching me sat me in front of it with a bunch of quarters and a Coke that was early 1977 I was 9 or 10

Just checked the specs on DN Forever, and it looks like we can run it. YAY. EB games has it reduced by $30, so I might get it in the next couple of days. Have a Logitech USB joystick that looks and works like a PS/2 one.

Might go searching for cheats.......
