The obvious solution is for makers to sell replacement heads, but no, there's more money to be had in making people buy a whole new machine.

Are there fifty dollar vaccuums in this day and age?  Where do you get one?  Does kmart still exist?  I haven't seen a kmart anywhere in years

Kmart in Australia I mean. There's one in every large regional town almost. This $50 one very basic, just a 2000W bagless barrel vacuum with a basic vacuum head, an upholstery attachment and a crevice attachment.
