It makes sense for an ask anything thread to be locked by its author, I guess, but WTF gives GA ownership of this game and conversation just because he started it?

That was the point McJ brought up when Richard closed a "question" thread where people were still posting, after the question was answered.

Richard later started a "self call-out" and kept it closed so no one could comment, but McJ opened it and posted to make the point, again.

We have also discussed this a bit during the WC days.
