And rice wouldn't be halal anyway. Halal refers to ritually slaughtered meat.

But you're wrong on the latter.

Halal means (in this context): (of food) fit to eat according to Muslim religious practice.
It especially applies to meat, but is not exclusive to meat, in fact some non-meat foods are forbidden under halal.

"In non-Arabic-speaking countries, the term is most commonly used in the narrower context of just Muslim dietary laws, especially where meat and poultry are concerned, though it can be used for the more general meaning, as well."
