I have literally been stared at before because of them.

If I get an erection, I can voluntarily eliminate it given a minute or two, though there will be a little residual turgidity for a while; it's just a matter of relaxing the muscles in that region to allow the blood to flow out and resisting the urge to rhythmically contract a certain muscle that tends to force blood into the penis and which gives a pleasurable sensation with each contraction.  Unfortunately, I don't have such voluntary control over gaining erections in the first place.
