Today I worked and ran to a nearby clinic to have my pinkie looked at. Not only is the nail busted, there's actually a broken bone at the tip of the finger!
I got to see my X-ray. I'm such a geek!  :laugh:  While I was there, I also got a tetanus shot and was prescribed antibiotics. With an open wound (exposed nail bed)
so close to a fracture, there is a risk of bone infection, so I had to tell the dishwashing job that I will be out at least till Tuesday, when I will have an
appointment with an orthopedic specialist to see what needs to be done for the finger. What a day!  :orly:

Are you allowed to work preparing food?
Or can you protect yourself well enough from contact then?

Originally I was advised not to work at all, because of the risk of infecting my finger, but then it was suggested that I could do things that did not risk ruining my sterile dressing. As always, I wear gloves on both hands, changing them frequently; on the injured hand, I wear a glove with the pinkie section cut off to accomodate the splint, and I then cover the splint with plastic wrap. The open wound I refer to is now covered by the dressing and the splint, so it does not come into contact with the food.  :thumbup:
