Not within the EU, if you are a EU citizen. And they're not everywhere between EU states either, I think. Between the Nordic countries there are usually no checkpoints at all, except at the European Routes (E6 etc.).

Not all Australians are the offspring of petty criminals. I think I am third generation Australian, my distant family coming from Wales and England.
