Do what I've always done (never HAD an ice dispenser or crusher), bag ice cubes, stick the bag on the floor and wallop it a few times with a lump hammer. A little ghetto but it does the trick alright. I do it when I want crushed ice for say, making a magarita or to cool down some chemistry-related procedure or other.

A cousin of mine lived small, and he made lots of bike trips. Various places he would rest, and have one weed plant growing there. Only one, so not easily detected. And with his numerous bike trips, he had quite a few single plants on places where people hardly ever go.

That, and El Niño. 18 years ago December also was really warm here, as were the months before, just like this year. Apparently that was the last time El Niño was as active as it is this year.
My daughter was born in December 18 years ago, while the hydrangea was having new flowers and the delphinium was about to bloom.

I saw Py's computer and mine was four years old so I bought one like hers. I also bought the warranty, so when it failed, I got another. I had a warranty on that one too and when it failed I got another. I started traveling so I got a netbook to back up the notebook. The notebook started overheating so I ditched the desktop that I wasn't using because I forgot the admin password and didn't want to keep using Linux (too many steps!), and bought another desktop.
The netbook started missing keystrokes so my father bought me another instead of giving me the money my sister who died told him to give me. That one developed screen static issues so my mother gave me another. (My sister told her to give me some of the inheritance but she decided to but ozone treatments for me and give me the netbook instead). That battery failed on that one but we were moving and the old one worked intermittenly so I didn't buy another, but it did fail after we moved. I haven't bought another because in the meantime Py bought me a notebook to replace the unreliable netbook (can't go wrong for $250 for 8G ram and backward install of W7) since we were traveling a lot (vacation weekends to Clearwater Fl and Ormond beaches) and needed a reliable portable.
A friend sent me a gift subscription so I started playing minecraft and found the video card on my desktop was insufficient to manage all the mods so I bought a new computer. But I have been too busy buying new appliances for our new two level home rental and traveling to the U.S. for Cmas (not to mention buying lots of Cmas gifts) so I haven't had time to set it up properly (and besides I hate W10, and since Linux is too hard to set up).
The result is that I can't play Minecraft because the laptop (which does have good memory and can play with some lag) is all the way upstairs in the bedroom, which means that in order to play while I am watching cartoons on cable, I would have to set up my new computer or move it, since it's taking up so much space that my recliner has to be moved to accommodate access to both. I would also have to unplug my old computer from its tiny 22 inch monitor so that the new computer was the primary input.
I suppose I should just buy another TV (don't want to move the second one) rent another cable box and have an extension put in, but that would require shopping and phone calls, and right now I am busy playing with my ton of Cmas presents.

I have a vacuum cleaner that will not work on rugs. I have another vacuum that doesd work on rugs but the hose doesn't work. I have another that only the hose works that gets used for chairs, cobwebs etc.
I think the time has come for me to consolidate all my vacuum cleaners into one handy fully functioning vacuum cleaner.

Fry them in butter. Works especially well with apple cider donuts from Atkins in Hadley. I used to let mine get stale for that reason.

Last year kid had an accident with her bicycle on a bridge. She had quite some wounds on her leg and her bike was not the way it should be either. She could not call home. There is no signal at all on the bridge. If she had needed it she would not even have been able to call the emergency number.
Pretty weird, because accidents do happen to happen on that bridge.

UncrustablesTM were my solution to the problem of craving PBJ but not wanting to keep anything
perishable in my refrigerator till the mouse issue was resolved. :tinfoil: They're tasty enough, but
nothing compares to a delicious fresh meal of scrambled eggs and/or omelets made with care!

In the bathroom it takes over a minute here. In the kitchen it takes twice as long. When doing the dishes I often boil water, because it is quicker.

i miss the variety of gluten free goodies in the U.S. here we have to make our own or drive to the states to get it.
imagine having to drive for an hour just to get cake.
they do sell GF cake here but it's not the kind we like. it's positively primitive here in montreal. the cake we like that they sell in the U.S. is made in canada but they don't sell it here. we mostly have to make do with things like apple and strawberry rhubarb pie.

Since moving here, I've been amazed at the variety of ice cream. Back home, it's mostly just vanilla. It seems to be a national obsession here. I'm becoming a bit addicted.

Wow, that's even less than when I was a little kid, over 40 years ago: Vanilla, strawberry, chocolate or sometimes boerenjongens ijs.
Now there are plenty of flavours at places where they sell icecream that isn't "soft-ice".
When I go to Talamini's they have at least 35 different flavours (on not busy days) often much more. And the assortment is different every time I go there.
But smaller salons have a nice range of flavours to choose from too.
Stracciatella is one of the more common flavours.

This is for the cat: While our power was off, Liam wanted to drink out of his water fountain which is on the bathroom bench next to the sink. It normally has a stream of flowing water coming out of its spout. But not while the power is off. So he had to drink out of the tap which I turned on for him. He kept looking at his fountain as if confused as to why it wasn't working.

The stuff is called soft-ice here. Not something I like. structure is wrong, taste is incredibly boring in an intense way. And it is way too salt. Probably to cover up that it does not taste well in itself.
Almost every snackbar in the Netherlands sells it in summer I think.

sigh, there is a new version of my stanley vacuum mug, which keeps things cold all day if i put ice. dunno about hot. stanley puts a lifetime guarantee. nothing wrong with the old one.
i am having trouble thinking of excuses to get the new one which is hammertone green. in honor of their anniversary they came out with an all stainless and that's the only stanley i have left so i have nothing in hammertone....aha.

they do make them, but you have to look for them. the dollar store here sells them for $2.50 CDN, but i had to go to another store to get the color i wanted. not only that, but they didn't start selling them until midwinter.

That is where all the money went from mine. Now I think of it as being the bank's money and I have to pay it back.

My remote control (or the little box that receives the signal) has a delay of about half a second. That's a little bit annoying when you're in a hurry to mute some sudden loud noises on the telly. For instance the start of a commercial break.

I fel almost gulity for contributing to this mis-named thread, knowing , as i do that millions of Brits are starving and/or cold and/or living on the streets because they're just to poor to buy all the essentials. And I don't suppose it's any different in the USA, or anywhere else in the developed world.
Being poor in a rich country is no better than being poor in a poor country, methinks. It just means that you could manage very nicely if you could only take your insufficient income somewhere else and live on it there, instead. Yet somehow, you still participate in that collective guilt for being one of the overpriveged. If you're botn in Britain then you're alright, Jack. Others will literally kill themselves trying to get here.
Oh, and we;'re more likely to possess some second-hand electronic junk than people in some countries do. and a power supply to run it on, if wecan only can afford to keep the meter fed.
I'm not grumbling for myself here. I'm OK, at present. Far from wealth, but not doing without anything that matters. just saying, it's not really a question of where you live, but how close you are to the bottom of the heap in whatever place you're living in.

Actually, I get this.... I've always thought that Coke tasted better out of the small glass bottles. The stuff in the cans tastes kinda "canny". There's a bargain store near me that still sells the small bottles. It goes nicely with Johnny Walker Black Label or Haig Clubman (with a small slice of un-waxed Sicilian lemon, of course).

I don't tend to use a mixer as such, not unless the alcohol that is going to be consumed is something like pure, or azeotropic concentration ethanol (95% EtOH, 5% H2O, these have to be diluted or they can actually burn mucous membranes), I find that it just makes more volume to consume. I just neck it in one and then follow it up AFTER with the coke or other chaser, so as not to bulk it up but still leave it strong enough to try and trigger a gag reflex due to the strength and the vapors.
That said I am not a very heavy drinker.

I remember (kinda) drinking in Amsterdam with three friends. We were drinking a bottle of Polish Spirit (About 90% alcohol?). We had to dilute it with neat vodka to make it drinkable. The hangover was legendary.

Heh. Yeah 90% is too strong. The stuff I keep around for the lab (mostly at least) is 95% azeotropic ethanol, I wouldn't go to the trouble to get it rigorously anhydrous only to dilute it for drinking, about £20 a bottle, russian, undenatured. Doesn't give a foul hangover if you don't drink too much of it, but it HAS to be diluted down from 95% before you can drink it without burning the stomach (did once and it was awful) But one little teacup of the stuff filled about 3/4 full and the rest made up with some less fiery beverage of choice can easily go down in one go and be followed up by a liberal, generous and greedily gulped down pull from something like a carton of fresh orange juice, guava juice, lychee juice or something else tasty. Actually this stuff tastes better than cheap vodka, since unlike the drinks industry, for a chemical vendor, if they sell 'ethanol, 95%' (albeit written in russian) and undenatured, then that is what it must be, as far as the person who buys it is concerned, thats what they ordered and they did so for a reason. So probably better quality than cheap vodka where I just BET they collect the heads from the distillation, and the tails, and distill it down for the last, dirtiest scrape of the bottom of the barrel, before using that, maybe diluted with more, cheapish low quality spirit and selling that. I find now that I can't stand cheap vodka, people say vodka has no taste or smell but it does, it does when you've actually had both high quality (and expensive) vodka intended as a craft-made spirit for drinking, and diluted pure ethyl alcohol. And to me now it makes my gorge rise, won't drink that crap. (and why would I when I'd get one mug out of a 5th, maybe plus one shot, for about £6.70 or so, or an entire liter of azeotropic EtOH that is both convenient to render drinkable by dilution alone, is specifically intended to have water as the only other non-trace level byproduct for uses that actually NEED ethyl alcohol, not methanol, isopropanol, n-propanol, the butanols and fusel-alcohols as are found in grain spirits, especially those of poor quality, for £20 and free shipping, no sky-high rates of tax-rape either by the UK govt. If that was sold here it'd probably cost about £30-40 in tax alone, perhaps more, before the price of the goods just in alcohol duty. I don't see why they ought to profit off my back when they have done me no service, but rather, demanded money with menaces, threaten and bully their way into people's pockets.)
I can't imagine drinking 90% spirit using vodka as a diluent though, damn. No wonder that fucked you up pretty hard :P
This russian stuff, not intended FOR drinking but still safe TO ingest, when diluted, it really has a whopper of a kick to it. One teacup part full and with at least 1/4 full of something nonalcoholic is enough that I'll feel warm all over in a few tens of seconds, slightly intoxicated with a minute to a minute and a half, briefly incoordinated and then wake up 7 hours later. Gives you just enough time to chase it down with a cold drink, put some music on whilst laying on the sofa and to smoke a cigar and briefly, intoxicates somewhat before one blacks out. I don't drink it to get drunk, not much of a drinker actually. Rather, if in physical pain and have to wait hours before something like a med refill whilst everything is already wearing or near worn off, and there are a few hours to kill, thats the kind of reason I'll drink it, or other alcohol. To serve as a fairly predictable and effective general anaesthetic for periods of up to 5-6 hours or so once in a while, if needs must. Otherwise I tend to stick to beer, although I won't turn down a margarita or mojito especially, those have to be two of my favourite cocktails, if I had to pick three, the other would be one of my own, something I call a manhattan project; a tall, narrow glass with a layer of care+ brand codeine cough syrup (which is flavored/preserved with chloroform, which is essential to the flavour of the cocktail), this topped off with mostly tesco own brand limeade carbonated pop with a little vodka added, a squeeze of fresh lime, then at the top two slices of fresh lime are hung off the glass, poking inwards and a slice of lemon is used to make a fruit 'cage' to hold in place a teaspoon to a teaspoon and a half of diethyl ether, solubilized with 30ml or so of vodka and some sugared lime juice plus a pinch of freshly grated lemon and lime zests floated on the top of that, and outside the 'cage', ideally some ice cubes floated on top of the finished cocktail.
Its getting harder to find that brand of cough syrup though so I don't often get to make it, very rare now to find a pharmacy that carries it, and whats more if they do, that will sell it; so usually it has to be bought online. And theres only enough for two cocktails in one bottle, so its a nuisance to get enough especially if more than a couple are to partake, at most it can be stretched to three servings per bottle.
The 'manhattan project' (my little pun on the manhattan cocktail, and the united states' nuclear warfare program :autism:) does both taste pretty good and pack a hell of a punch to it, though, for all the scarcity of one of the key ingredients.
