The old thread was 8,800 posts and growing, probably contributing to a slower board. Post your pics in this one instead, please. :)

i actually thought that was the real guy for a moment.

Lewis Hamilton is quite awesome.

^
^ Visited Madame Tussauds (the wax model celebs museum) once in Amsterdam (like the one in London) years ago and my gut feeling disliked it quite a bit. Dunno, t'was over 20 years ago.. but it felt like looking at stuffed animals or something alike.
Um, folks having stuffed animals on their walls or above their fire places (as some sort of throphy in a 'look what I 've shot' kinda way/stuffed) should be shot on location, there and then, I say.
Well..

Agree with bodaccea and lutra - that is a good photo.

Pity you can't quote pictures from the old thread here.
There's a picture of Crip's eye I keep seeing when in the photo's only thread.
Every time I see it, I think the beholder is in the eye of the beauty.
It's a good self-portrait.

I meant right-clicking on the actual picture itself, not the thread. If I could find it, I would transfer it over here. But I can't find it...

Gladiolus in bloom.. (um, this in early October (http://www.wrongplanet.net/modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_eek.gif) )
Fart, my 'photo stock site' changed things and now I can either post pics in a small NOT sharp style or in this huge format. Not something in between, qua size. Bugger..
-
That's pretty, lutra.
-
Thanks. Think so too. I love gladiolus', especially white ones.
(was thinking to take some more photographs of the plant a little later today.. similar angle but with a sky that's darker blue.. should make the contrast more, um obvious.. or something)
-
What's the white saucer shaped thing in the bottom left of the photo?
-
Oh, that's just a flying sauc.... (http://www.wrongplanet.net/modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_eek.gif)
Nah, it's a street light just above the hedge. It's there next to a little road (not busy at all) that leads to the houses here.
-
My grandmother would grow gladiolus, snapdragons, african violets and christmas cactus. Those are some of my preferred flowers. Did anyone else squeeze snapdragons to make them snap?

Could you take another pic of your toilet with less clothes on?? :eyebrows:

Me grinding off a broken and stripped bolt under my son's friend RSX. I seem to be spending a lot of time on this car lately more than on my own. I was disappointed the photo had no sparks in it their were lots of sparks the rest of the time

Snapdragons are called "Leeuwenbek" here, "Lion's mouth". And, yes, I squeezed them to make the mouth open wide.
I loved the related Linaria even better. Sometimes there was very sweet nectar to be found in those.
I've got a mini African violet on my table, my mother always had purple African violets when I still lived with my parents. There is still one gladiolus in bloom in my garden, a reddish coloured one, and, Christmas cactus makes me think of both my grandmothers.

Spider under lamp..
-
Today I caught a mosquito for the spider (in picture above). I slapped the insect to the ground (in the bathroom), picked it up gently and placed and made it stick into the spider's web. It started trying to escape pretty soon after that but the spider was (just) in time to catch it. I think it's the first food the spider had for p/m a week.

Well, 2 gorgeous creatures out of 3 isn't bad. lol
-
Last couple of days I've been doing some gardening due to the nice weather we had here. Bit cold but with quite a bit of sunshine too. Nice. Um, anyway.. I relocated some plants but I also trimmed some shrubs and when the branches of some are thick enough I cut (or saw) them into, let's say, fireplace, ready to burn them later, size. Well, I put the pieces to rest (/dry) in said fireplace and out of blue-ish, whilst watching TV, my eyes caught the colour of the bottom (or top)(what ever) parts of the little stemlets and I thought.. 'oinky doinky, Iz going to split one length-wise and see what I discover then'.
Well..
Remarkable colours, I think..
-
That's nice coloring what type of plant was it? Does it get bigger? I know holly is very white and is used sometimes in carving
-
Um, bugger.. was afraid someone would ask that question for I don't know the plant's/shrub's name. Gonna go to fetch my big plant book downstairs now and post it later. (wish to know it's name myself too)
-
Mulberry has that look and was used a lot in mallets as it does not split easily
-
That's pretty cool, lutra. Are you going to make something with it?
-
Mmmm, cross posting.. (but think I answered your question in my reply to Parts below, EBM)
No, it's not mulberry but I cannot find the plant's proper name in my books either though. Well, not that it's that important now but I've been wondering about its name for longer and think the solution to find its name is next time I visit my plant supplier (= huge store) to look for it.
Don't think the branches will grow much thicker (diagonally) than 1 and 1/8 or 2/8 inch and there are too many 'disturbances' in the surface of the wood to make it good carving material. Might try some later.. not splitting it first then.
(um, bit too much blahiah for a little piece of shrub's wood maybe :nerdy: but hey.. )(I just like wood/working with it)
-
Maybe it would be good for something small and intricate. Like trimwork or a picture frame.
-
Yeah, a picture frame.. that's a good idea. Tx. A purely natural golden coloured picture frame could be quite cool, I'd say.
Hope the other branch bits are of decent quality. Going to look tomorrow.

I get it most days; I consider it a good day if I'm not paralysed for part of it. The onset is usually gradual, and I feel myself slowing down and becoming weaker, clumsier and often mentally impaired with short-term memory problems and jumbled thoughts, which gives me time to crawl into bed, although sometimes I end up lying somewhere in the garden or on the floor of the kitchen if I try to keep working. I never know how bad an episode will be, and I sometimes get caught by an episode that seems mild at first but then quickly becomes more severe.
I set up a webcam the day before this episode so that I could record my next episode just by pressing a button, and I put it onto a DVD and handed it in at the hospital along with some notes that I'd written, to be delivered to my neurologist.

not going to lie... that kind of sounds like it sucks.

It was a lot worse from 7 years ago up until 4 years ago, and it's been fairly stable for the past 4 years. My eyelids tend to flutter when I have an episode, and I can usually speak, but my speech becomes slurred, quiet and slow, and I have difficulty recalling words.

Same here. Someone was on me the other day saying I either never smile in a picture, or if I can manage a smile, I'm wearing sunglasses. I can't seem to smile and not wear my sunglasses. I have no idea why. I think I feel too exposed and it all feels rather unnatural.

The Lady Godiva is a neighbour of mine, Coventry is not far from here, although its a bugger
on horseback in the noddy. ooh saddle sore...

Um, looked for ripe ones a couple of times in late Summer but none. I thought. But oinky doinky, the fig tree lost quite a bit of her leaves and tadaa.. found 11 of them. Just overlooked them earlier or maybe due to warm-ish weather as of late they riped a bit further.
I tend to make a nice dessert with them.. by peeling of their skin and 'blender' them with honey and a pinchlet of salt. Served with quark/soft curd cheese. Could go gay.. and drop a fresh leave of mint on it.. :P

Drool. We can grow figs quite easily here, but the ants are very territorial and love figs. I don't want a backyard full of ants. I will buy some fig jam once a year and just put it on buttered biscuits. Divine. But then figs usually are divine.

I've never had a fig. What are they like?
-
I've never had a fig. What are they like?
IMHO, figs are naturally sweet. They're eaten whole. The inside is full of tiny seeds which have a slightly (to me) sandy texture. There is a lush taste to them, rather like "brown" if "brown" was a flavour.

Do Fig Newtons give an accurate impression of the taste of fresh figs? :orly:

I think the dough wrapper throws off the taste a bit. If you just eat the filling it should be fairly similar.

Due to me disliking the dry air the central heating provides I came up with this thing (years ago). When it's moderately cold 2 of these, what I call, 'poor man's stoves' are sufficient to warm the attic (the room on the top floor/my bedroom) that much there's no need for the central heating's help to warm up the room. Yeah, when it's too cold I'll turn the heating on but also 2 of these will provide the room with some warmth (and moist).

Here too! My boss can't get to her summer house because the lake is too soft to walk on.
Where I took the photo above is normally full of ice this time of year and unwalkable
The weather this winter has been all messed up. :tinfoil:

Well I guess it's just making of for last years freakishly bad winter

But what I do have is an expensive new camera! Let's see if it can work miracles with a useless blob like myself.

Pretty, as always! Large photo, though. Your eyes always look like you're almost crying, though? Maybe that's what makes you seem sad, when you're not? :dunno: Cheers, everybody!

I was trying to look relaxed. I tend to take photos that have this blank aspie stare with my eyes bulging out like a constipated owl.
-
Well, they certainly weren't doing that, at least! It seemed more 'neutral' than most of your photos. I don't exactly mind if you happen to look miserable, btw. It just might help if we tell you such things, huh?

DFG, years ago, a sports commentator said of a Russian figure skater, "She looks as if she has all of the sorrows of Mother Russia within her." That's what your eyes say to me. Haunting, experiences, lovely.
PS. I'm not making a move on you.

Thank you! I can't compliment a female without them thinking I am a lesbian. Maybe it is because I'll forget I said anything and say it again and again. I've gotten yelled at for complimenting too much.

You have pretty eyes DFG. I take back part of what I have said about Kern County.
What did you say about Kern County? I don't like it here myself but maybe it's my inability to relate to anyone here. I tend to be clingy and I have a friend I can't visit atm and I have successfully hid from her how needy I am. If I had it my way , we'd hang out every day, but I don't want her to feel pressured. When I was younger there were a lot of racist rednecks here and I was bullied by them because my mother is Mexican.

Ah. Well, sadly, racism happens; I'd not have guessed you were half Mex. Which I don't mind, obviously. Then, yeah, there is a 'too clingy' that puts people off, sorry. Must be very difficult for you. *hugs*

My grandfather from Mexico was Spaniard. It was my grandmother who had Native American which is why my mom looked a bit Oriental Asian. She looks like Pocahontas and has the body too. I have the same shape but larger because I am obese still but trying to lose all that weight I gained when those idiots couldn't figure out my medications. I really wish I never started in the first place. I'd be a much healthier weight.
-
Being clingy is only dangerous if in a relationship. In friendship it only really shows interest, either that or I don't pick up on it. :tard:
-
I think I posted this before, but fuck it anyway. It's a bit old, but I look pretty much exactly the same:

Just general shit about what shitholes Bakersfield and Oildale are. Nothing to do with you. My cousins lived there in the 1970s.

Yea Oildale is ugly. So are most of the people there. Bakersfield is nice though. A lot of grass and trees. More people now. It is getting more like L.A.

Sorry if I mixed anyone up, the white is a Bradford pear, the pink is a Magnolia.
-
Okay, the other ones, now I'm mixed up. :zombiefuck:
My white one is about a 15 year old Bradford pear, they really don't have a long life span (they say about 15 years, we'll see ;) ), they're prone to splitting, and the flowers smell nasty. That said I still love it.

I saw on another forum someone with hooks in their back being suspended from the ceiling. Is that what you did? Strange how I had never seen this before and then suddenly I see it twice in a week.
No, the cords were attached to a pair of matching hooks in my cousin. We pulled against each other.

Very pretty, as usual, DFG, though I personally think the photo U did with a smile was prettier. That is a neutral expression, not a happy one, isn't it? Hope you're feeling OK, that's rather more important, though?

Um, DFG usually looks sad/ upset/ etc, it's the shape of her face, the usually shiny (almost 'crying') eyes &, generally, slightly ( mouth? Only doing a ), apparently, makes her face look fat & she hates that.... ::)
Anyways, time for my next:

Could only see parts of your picture at a time DFG. When I got to the main features of your face, I was really liking them. You've got a really nice balance and shape in your face.

How did that happen? When my finger was broke it took many months before I could bend it back to a square.

Ow? Which has taken 2 of them out of action for awhile! :(

During the final day of our Uni's Humans vs Zombies, which I was helping organise and run. The last mission just started, the Humans had The Device (the purple foam prop) in the circle we made on the oval, and then this random guy, a nonplayer, comes up starts chatting with with one of the Moderators, and then suddenly he grabs The Device and starts yelling to the Zombies (who weren't even around at this point). I told him he couldn't take that, and asked him to give it back. And all he said was "You can't out run me".
Little did he know I actually am very quick over a short distance.
I grabbed his jumper and tried to pull him to a stop. But he twisted away, and my hand was twisted in his jumper (that's probably when my finger (left ring) was broken) and I tripped and fell. At this point Phil had made his way over and was about ready to beat the guy. He got the Device back and picked myself up off the ground.
I quickly noticed my finger was stinging like all hell. I looked down and it's got blood all over it, I assumed I lifted the nail or something. But pain wouldn't go away and just got worse. And then I started to go into shock a bit ugh. So I got myself to Emergency, got x-rayed and yup, a very obvious break in the tip bone of my ring finger.
No idea where he went after that.
The result:

Did they tell you to put a small piece of cotton wool between the junction of the two fingers you are buddy taping to each other? When I broke my pinky finger, that's what they told me to do so I wouldn't get a rash there. My break was very near the bottom of my pinky near the knuckle, though. I hope yours heals well and quickly. That's a very obvious break, like you said.

4 weeks.... :/
It will take longer than that to bend right.

I sprained my finger when I fainted last year and it took forever to be able to bend it without pain.
-
Took 2-3 weeks for mine, strangely enough.

4 weeks.... :/
It will take longer than that to bend right.
With my pinky, I was able to bend it to make a fist but I couldn't completely straighten it for over a year. It was like it wanted to be in that slight curve that the splint and buddy taping held it in.

Yes, mine took about that long to bend into a square or slightly acute angle.
-
4 weeks is bad enough, Ceilidh :( Since the other posters have done something more like that than I have, I'm afraid they'll be right about the difficulties after getting the tape off, too, though. :(
-
4 weeks.... :/
I broke the tip of my left pinkie in the fall of 2010; that also took about 4 weeks to heal.
Does it hurt a lot now? Mine hurt only because I also smashed up the nail on that finger.
The break in my case was at the very tip of the bone, not near the knuckle. :apondering:

I have a very mild ache with is equally the break and the nail (which was lifted, or the cuticle damaged or something during the incident). Sometimes I'll grab something or hold something and the pain will spike 1000 fold, but only briefly.
-
The moral of the story being - don't grab somebody by the jumper next time? Sorry, feeble! It hurts when you do something like that to your nail! (Though I keep biting mine, so they never get long enough to do that....)

Broke my right ring finger about 15 years ago. Really should have gone to a doc rather than swallowing painkillers and taping it up myself. To this day, it still won't bend or extend all the way.

Depending on how it was broken, the doctor might have done the same exact thing that you did. Which bone was broken in your finger?

broken my right ring finger as well. falling off a horse at a gallop and slaming my hand and head into a metal gate, knuckes sandwhiched between a steel bar and my helmet. fingers nuckle got and is completely destroyed to this day. can bend it just fine down... but i can also bend it up to about a 45* angle without phisical assistant of another body part.... my mom didnt know i had broken it untill about 5 years on a plain ride. i mentioned the time i broke my finger and she said she never knew about it and shes got all upset that she just bought me ice cream instead of taking me to the doctor.
the guy behind us started laughing his ass off and made some wise crack about her getting the mother of the year award

From a former certified fraud examiner (me) the more legible the signature, the harder it is to counterfeit it. A scrawl is quite easy to duplicate. My signature is very legible.
-
That's what I read, in some book which involved a bit of counterfeiting & so on! That sort of info usually turns out to be accurate & it sure made sense that it'd be like that. Um, in which case, that autograph won't be worth anything, though? Sorry to it's owner if so but they'd best know now!

I most definitely did "catch" her. She claimed to be a lesbian before this! :zoinks:
In reality I awkwardly asked her out one night and it started from there. We were friends for almost a year before it. I didn't know she liked me or it would work out, as I said she claimed to like a bit of muff.

nice bike,,,,,,,,,,where do you put yer feet
On the pedals. :zoinks:
The bike is pedal-assisted, so the motor only kicks in as I pedal. There's also a throttle but it is a 3rd party accessory, the original model does not come with one. I find the throttle handy for moving the bike every time I stop (to avoid wobble), but I rarely use it when I'm travelling unless I'm getting tired.
@ Shleed, nice that you can fold it, and take it with you on public transport too.
Folding takes getting used to, but the main reason why I got a folding bike is because it's lower than a typical mountain bike. I always had major problems with balance so the low height is quite handy.

I'm no environmentalist, I'm just too cheap for a car or motorbike. Petrol's gone through the roof these days.

I had three baby birds. This is 'dickie' :zoinks:
they fell out of a hedge that had been chopped down. i saved three and a cat got one. :'(
two of them flew away earlier. Dickie was smaller, fluffier and less lively.
i been feeding him worms. he has picked up a little, but if anyone has any tips i would be grateful, as i know these things can go downhill very quickly.
-
He looks very young and weak. Don't stress him. Look after him, so the cat and big birds won't get him.
-
Had to look for some proper advice here too.
If the blackbird chick is kinda weak you could try to dissolve some glucose or dextrose in some water and try feeding it with a pipette perhaps. NO milk.
Read about cat's food (out of little tin) worked too. Also to boil an egg hard, made smaller with fork, with a dry bisquit (and a tadski water) through it. Quite small amounts per time. Worms, if you can find them/made shorter/smaller, are fine too. Spiders (which I thought is a no-no for you), flies, musquitos, snails (made smaller), etc.. are okay also.
Thing is.. you have to feed it.. very young bird don't have a 'get food' need, intrinsically, I believe. Stupidly they will not initiate searching for food themselves.
Well, good luck with it, Bodie.. hope you'll succeed.
-
ah he's gorgeous bodie. will see if i can find any info off someone when i#ve had my breakfast
-
do you think he is a blackbird then?
-
We have had to run the hose over the garden to dig for worms! me and the boy! we have quite a lot and are chopping them up to feed dickie.
I am trying to keep him quiet and not stress him. I don't have any cat food, shall i just stick to worms? Oh and i been giving him drops of water with a medicine syringe
-
Don't give him too much water. Food is the most important. I think it's good with worms.
-
just googled and he does look like a baby blackbird yeh
found this on someone's blog:
On Sunday my nephew J found a baby blackbird (aka ‘grackle’). It had fallen out of the nest but we couldn’t locate its parents and reunite it with them. So we took it home. Then yesterday J had to leave the island to visit family in Italy. Of course Sue and I are left with the bird.
We’re feeding it cat food as a kind of worm/insect mash substitute and it seems to be working. The bird has been named ‘Eric’ by a guest who is staying with us, though of course we don’t know its sex. It sleeps right through the night but does make a real racket whenever it wants to be fed, which is about every 40 minutes during the day.
worms should be fine
-
Not 100% sure it's a blackbird chick but I'm pretty (=88.4%) sure it is. Colouring, on pics, kinda tells me it's a young female blackbird.
Also, if it starts to squeek/make very high pitch repetitive 'eeeh.. eeeh.. eeeh' noises.. it's calling for his parents and is basically hungry. You could, if there's no potential danger around, under your supervision, place it in your garden (near the spot you've found her), take a little distance and see if a parent responds, I was thinking. Don't worry about scent or something.. birds recognize their offspring via looks and sound mostly.
Think, best surviving chances it has is try to see if the parents reclaim their daughter here. Maybe place it in a plant pot fairly high in the hedge and see if one parent return..
Well, dunno. it's a good sign it eats your brought worms though. Maybe a little later you could try some pieces of a ripe berry perhaps. Like strawberry.. grown up merulas love them but I'm not sure if they're good for such a young chick.
-
or maybe u should contact the RSPB. here's what they say: http://www.rspb.org.uk/advice/helpingbirds/health/babybirds.aspx?mediacode=t08ith0124&=125272 (http://www.rspb.org.uk/advice/helpingbirds/health/babybirds.aspx?mediacode=t08ith0124&=125272)
for now, I just read this: "In the meantime, you could try wetting some bread with milk. Or regurgitated a chewed worm for it. It depends on you! "
maybe mash the worms up or something? if he seems to be digesting them fine he should be ok though, but I know fuck all about birds tbh. I'd ring the RSPB to be sure
-
Baby birds are actually scared of living worms at first, so he should learn to eat them alive.
-
but dont their parents regurgitate them when theyre still young?
lutra's point about seeing if the parents come backm for him might be best actually, if it's possible. if not then I think ring the rspb, just to be safe
-
Yes, they do, but if no adult bird will take care of him, he has to learn it by himself anyway.
-
Cute birds Bodie. My new house has 9 nests packed up around the house because it was vacant for a year before I bought it. They are all packed full of little pink naked birdies too. Fortunately their moms are still actively caring for them so I just get to watch :)
-
Thing is.. you have to feed it.. very young bird don't have a 'get food' need, intrinsically, I believe. Stupidly they will not initiate searching for food themselves.
Probably because searching for food themselves would invariably lead to them falling out of the nest and being eaten by the next fox or whatever that passed by.
-
I have attempted to hand raise baby birds before, as well as squirrels and other assorted wildlife that would find their way into one of my clinics back in those days. Don't feel bad if it goes south. Baby birds are almost impossible to keep alive. :(
If you want your best shot at it, this is the stuff you need:
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=5755&cmpid=04csegb&ref=3312&subref=AA%26CAWELAID%3D525353534 (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=5755&cmpid=04csegb&ref=3312&subref=AA%26CAWELAID%3D525353534)
-
Well, if she nourishes and protects him, he might be able to survive. In 2001 there was a hurt great tit here. It was an adult, though, but he survived despite harsh circumstances. He had hurt his wings and couldn't fly. It was deep snow and -18oC. He found a hole in the snow, where he could sleep. Every morning he tried to fly. He walked to get the bird seeds. After about a month he actually learned to fly again. Now he's most probably dead, but I'll never forget how tough he was :viking:
-
Sounds very difficult to do on your own bodie. I reckon contact the RSPB and tell them about him and see what they say.
he's seriously cute though, I'd wanna keep him
-
Elvis has left the building!
I emailed RSPB but had no reply! I tried ringing RSPCA - it just rang...
but, because the other two had gone off on their own ok, and Dickie had been eating live worms like a savage i took him back to where i had found him. He was just in a cardboard tray with some leaves and stuff. As i was carrying him up the garden, a bird swooped right by my head. I figured it to be mom, because she had no other reason to come that close to me! I put him on top of the newly chopped hedge, he was shaded by the tree, and i have never seen a cat on top of the hedge so i figured as good a place as any.
I have been assured that it often happens, that birds fall from the nest, and mom and dad still feed them.
Yeah i have tried to raise several baby animals in the past, including birds and have lost them all. Except for one baby magpie, but i think they are very hardy anyway. I think saving them from the cat, keeping them overnight and making sure they had some food was about as good as i could hope for. The longer you keep a bird in a box then i think you are decreasing it's chances of survival. I had observed Dickie really pick up in the 24 hrs, he had eaten, poo'd and had a little water.
Anyway i sat out with it for a bit, the mom bird was nearby then i left to go horse riding. It is not there now. ???
I hope it is ok. It was a good lesson for the urchin, as i really want him to be good with animals and nature. He spent all day trundling around digging up worms and finding bits of foliage for his 'nest'.
-
baby birds are unattractive. but how did you get one?
-
I raised a baby robin when I was about 6. He was hurt when we got him and one wing was never right, he lived over a year. I do not remember what we fed him beside worms
-

The photo came out odd like that I am unsure why. I can assure you the house is the only thing in the area that is not leaning, there are no flat parts in the yard

my bad....let me try that with glasses on
-
No in the photo it does look like it's leaning but it's just the angles of everything else that makes it look that way I guess
-
That's a common problem photographing building without using a tilt lens. They will appear to be leaning.

No, I'm pretty sure it's a Sphynx. The Devon has short hair.
Edit - You may be not far off the mark:
In 2010, DNA analysis confirmed that Sphynx hairlessness was produced by an allele of the same gene that produces the Devon Rex (re), with the Sphynx allele being incompletely dominant over the Devon allele and both recessive to the wild type. However a different genetic symbol (hr) is given to the Sphynx gene and it is more likely that these are different genes interacting with each other. The only allowable outcross breeds in the CFA are now the American Shorthair and Domestic Shorthair. Other associations may vary and the Russian Blue is a permitted outcross in the GCCF. In Europe, mainly Devon Rex has been used for outcrosses.

This is the view from the front yard of the house I was working on the other day. It looks fairly normal till you notice the control tower looming over the house across the street. It's Tweed New Haven airport, they only have small commuter planes and private jets no big planes, still at times it got very loud when they pulled up to the terminal which was next to the tower.

How about squirrels? Found this one at work today it came right up to us and jumped on my helper's shoe and did not want to leave him. It is a little small and I thing still young but old enough to be on it's own. After the photos it crawled up his arm and sat on his shoulder the next two hours while we cleaned up, measured another house then drove to his ex girlfriend's house and dropped it off there. She has a mini animal rescue thing going and lives in the middle of an eight acre swamp.

I have fostered 5 or 6 baby squirrels over the years, bottle feeding them and raising them after their moms are run over by cars or mauled by cats. They are sweet and fun until their sex drive kicks in and then they are destructive as all hell and you have to let them go before they chew their way through your drywall to get out and get on with some squirrelly humping. The only squirrels I have ever seen that are that friendly with people are ones that have been raised by people. I wouldn't be surprised if that was a rescue recently let back out.

Well, really hope I'm :viking: enough to let the plant survive this Winter. Went wrong quite a few times before. This one is one year old (from cutting) but they can live, and grow quite huge, for many years.
Think I'll move the søcker to the upstairs balcony tomorrow (to be save).. for a little under 10C nights are coming up soon.

No :( I was hoping though. There was about 12 feet missing off the back of this house though maybe it was in there. On a side note there is a clock in the wall on the first floor of this house that as of Thursday this past week is still keeping the correct time.

*strawberry fields forever*
(http://www.mijnalbum.nl/GroteFoto-IC7XM3CN.jpg)
Made a wooden 'container' a couple of days ago. Today I could borrow a tacker/staple gun from a friendly neighbour and ja, see here....
The third 'box'/the highest up is still 'sackless' (or it is still without the bag) butz I ran out of (proper) soil and have to get me some more tomorrow. Bottom part, or bed, is going to be filled with spring onions, radish, garlic and some other small-ish edible plants. Top bed.. not sure.. but Iz was thinking about some flowering plants that doesn't grow all that tall.
-
How well do strawberries grow in your part of the world?
Here in the California coast, they grow almost year round.
There's even some greenhouses where they grow them in the middle of winter.
-
^ Good question. Not sure.. but I think professional growers (at my whereabouts) 'do' mixed states of growth of the plants in the period between early spring and maybe early autumn. Oh, that's for the outside growth.. and the mixed stages ensure them they can harvest on a daily (?) basis throughout that period.
They also use greenhouses here but most probably it's not doable to grow strawberries year 'round. I think in Nov-, December, Jan- and February it's not possible to grow them here. Um, dunno..
Think, the strawberries one can buy in those winter months here are grown in Spain. In greenhouses.. and.. by quite a few Dutch growers (that moved there), btw.
~
Um, going to buy a second wooden container for (soil and) plants tomorrow. I'm that enthusiastic about the first one (on photo there). :orly:
-
In other words, you have about a 6-7 month growing period for strawberries in Northern Europe?
-
Um, sørry.. should have looked it up earlier. Outside strawberries can be grown between p/m ½ April and p/m ½ September in the Netherlands.. which makes it only 5 months, even.

I don't eat them but know a lot of people who love morels. They have the added bonus that they are very easy to ID so you don't have to worry about getting poisoned. Great find :plus:

Would definitely do that; wouldn't want to be one of the servers having to move about though.
Me neither, I hated being a server when I was on the ground. :P

Cutting it some days is the trick. Added some plantings this spring (purple smoke, elderberry bushes)...will add more next spring...lilies and such.
Trying to get it to the point where it's will be just meandering paths with solar lights and a couple of benches here and there.

Sounds cool (meandering paths, lights and benches).
Gardening is quite a nice hobby to have, isn't it? Or just doing random stuff outdoors is..

Depending upon the season, I am OK with that.
Stopping the outer growth is one way to force reproduction, which is what we all want to see. Have you offered or allowed her hormones? Having a male plant near, once she is so fertile, is one way to again "force" nature's way.
Since we all want to see more blooms in our garden plants, she needs to be encouraged.
Mind you, I have no idea what plant you are representing with your picture. I am mainly a horticulturist and I do know a bit about how plants reproduce. I see a plant that is desperate to reproduce by sexual means and yet is capable of reproducing hermaphroditically, but you should NOT force this horror upon her. Let that baby see some pistols!! She will respond with pollen and even more flowers!!
Just make sure that the blossoms are gathered in the early stages of reproduction.

This is Adam, right? Or is it his girlfriend?
I mean, at least judging from that picture only, how could you possibly look more female?
I want to understand why Adam doesn't look ugly and male, like all the other males.

Sockpuppet troll trying to be subtle.
You allready tried to rile people up around Adam. Try something else.

It is a genuine question, although it might be insulting.
I have seen like 4 (supposedly?) non-transgendered men in my life who looked attractive, because they had so many female features and almost no male features.
I wouldn't have asked if it wasn't so exceptional to me.

Look at the picture. Not even the jawbone looks very noticeably male. No voice box. And I would rate the nose and lips, somewhat including teeth and upper yaw dimensions, 9/10 female.
Why is that? Is it even him? Is it him pre-puberty but looking like an adult?

I will have to post a pic of my Blaupunkt, so you can see the similarities and also see why I got so excited when I saw it!!
Does yours have Shortwave ? .... looks like it! I can see three bands on your face plate.
There are times when I diddle the shortwave. Remember that shortwave was set aside for just amateurs to use. Then as the night goes, I fall asleep. Suddenly a caller is online from fucking Budapest or Queensland or some place in New Zealand or some shit. Once I heard a two hour long conversation from Alaska.

Yes before the internet people used shortwave to make friends internationally and provide info in emergencies. I have a friend whose father was stationed in Alaska as a Coast Guard Radio Operator during WWII who stayed there after the war. During the 1964 quake aftermath he and a bunch of other Ham operators helped direct emergency and relief efforts. The people around Leyte Philippines could probably used some about now in the isolated areas.

Glad someone understands about shortwave.

It has shortwave, long wave,am and fm. Radio is a long time obsession of mine and I have a ton of them, between all of them I can receive signals from 150khz to 1300Mhz. I have a couple transceivers also but they need work and I am not a Ham so using them would cause problems.

As promised, my working tube radio from the early sixties.
I replaced all the tubes and a few caps a few years back. This baby works perfectly and it actually sounds great for a tabletop radio.
You will see the similarities.

My sister said "photo's" on Facebook recently, I corrected her and it started the biggest shitfight between our family in years. My sister even deleted her account over it. She even told me to "Fuck off". Oh dear. We sort of made peace at my other sister's wedding, though she barely said two words to me.
Anyway, you are very creative, bodie. Some of those buildings are awesome. Not to mention the cars, I do like the truck.

Hang a new washbasin or porcelain sink on the wall (there) a little over a month ago. I have to varnish the little shelf once or twice still but I'm pretty pleased with the end result.

Lutra - A month? PA and I would still be
arguing discussing the matter.
-
^ Well, little discussion here (je marche seul).. but but I am quite a perfectionist and that causes me to spend quite a bit of time thinking things through. Say, what a professional, a plumber(?), does in one afternoon could take me a week. Dare, arrogantly so, claim that I did a bett.. (nah, I shouldn't)
(If one wants something be done right, one has to do it oneself.. is kinda the motto here)
-
Not a criticism Lut, PA and I have different tastes and seem to find it difficult to agree on styles, methods, etc. It takes us quite a while to get things. We looked for 4 years before we found a house. I only gave in because it has a resaleable floor plan and is in a convenient neighborhood.

I have a large prism which I recently moved to a new spot in my office window and I was rewarded with this the other day I put paper on the floor so it would show up better but didn't enhance the colors at all. It shows up around 2 on the wall then heads across the floor where I took this.

Parts, I think your bunny ears need to get perked up.

I don't own a single piece of headwear
The only non-everyday kind of clothing I have and like are a pair of black winter gloves, but since I moved they have been lost :(

Working in the basement workshop today sorting and organizing stuff. Ever wonder where the name parts came from? Here is just some of the parts and tool storage , I have several other cabinets, separate store room full of bins and shelving full of stuff and that isn't counting my shed workshop and storage.

Yes, but growth seems to lack behind a bit. Fruits kinda stopped growing.
Probably I just need to be a little bit more patient.

Looks like I might get one if I'm lucky though...maybe he's finally getting sick of zucchini and will stick to eating the hostas for awhile. :zoinks:

Then you aren't the one eating the zucchini, it's your dysfunctional zucchini munching cousin. ;) Gophers max out at around 2 pounds...this is a good 10-12 pounder at least, the baby might be about 5 lbs. Cute little bugger.

Today's tomato harvest:
Though the plant was sub-named 'Ping Pong' butz..
(not sure.. )
-
Do you have any suggestions on what tomato to pick for the garden, when I want yellow tomatoes?
This year I am really lazy in the garden. The only thing that successfully grows this year are chilli peppers. They are doing very well.
-
It depends a bit what you want to use them for.
Ah, found this database: http://www.mooiemoestuin.nl/database/tomaat/ (http://www.mooiemoestuin.nl/database/tomaat/) You can click on the names in blue and find more info about that specific species.
Butz.. may be best to buy a little tomato plant.. to grow them from seed (as I did) you might be a tad late.
Also, when you've found a nice tasting tomato you could just break the tomato (the fruit) and put the seeds in the ground (or pot/what have you). That worked fine two years ago with a yellow tomato I had bought in a supermarket. Tadski late for it by now.. butz..

Last year I did indeed have tomatoes from seed from the tomatoes the year before. They came as a surprise, in the same soil as the year before, and did really well. No illnesses or anything for being in the same soil.
Now it is too late to start tomatoes, and there is enough of other things to do, this year. So, keeping the plants healthy that I have, and making nice plans for next year, that is what I will do.
Will be searching supermarkets or markets begin next year for yellow tomatoes, if I can't get them from a nursery. My own supermarket will not have them. Too small a customer base to try anything adventurous like yellow tomatoes.
:tard:
-
My chilli peppers I have grown from seeds. From November on I was alert on the occasional extra tasty or extra hot one.
Of two I kept the seeds, one with an awesome taste, the other with a very good taste and extra heat. Of the 33 seeds I sowed, 30 plants came up. Handed out quite a few, and kept a few for myself. Now I will keep seeds from prolific plants, if the taste of the fruits is good. Big difference in how prolific the individual plants are. I may even try to keep a few alive through winter, getting them indoors in time.

The way I collect rain water.
As you can see it has been raining substantially and the large bucket, 65 litres big/to mix mortar in, is up to the rim full of tears from heaven. I use the rain water to water my plants in pots in- or outside the house. The quality of it is way better for plants than the water out of the tap.
Think I have enough for surely a full month. 2 probably. Now hoping for a little bit more sunshine (for my plants).. and less rain (please).

There is a bald eagle nesting in town, I believe the eggs have hatched but the babies are too small to see yet. The whole area is blocked off I took this from about 100 yards away when I took my daughter over to see the nest. They said in the paper there hasn't been a nesting pair in town for over 70 years.

Go for it - honestly removes a lot of hassle in regards to caring for it. I'll get it shaved off and never have to worry about it for weeks until it starts getting tufty at the sides due to my cow lick. End up using far less shampoo too.
My beard, however... bit of a pain if I want to keep it clean/neat. Worth it though.

Had I known I would be home for almost a year, might have seriously considered buzzing mine and embracing my gray. Hindsight and all that. Bought color recently but haven't used it, knowing for certain now I wont be back in the office before next year. Still something to consider.

Emma calls them "presents".
The funny thing is that their poops are largely sterile due to the nature of their diet. They're hard enough to just be picked up and dropped into the toilet or bin, no mess or anything like that. Makes it easy to clean when it comes to their cages, you can literally just vacuum them up :zoinks:

Looks menacing.
It defiantly gave off a creepy vibe especially since we were the only people there. This part I found real creepy it's basically a cage on the end of the main building. It's last use was a home for special people but it looks more like a prison.

Haven't posted a pic in a bit and the next one is me. I accidentally turned on the video, instead of closing it all out after taking some pics at the river this morning walking the dog.
There was twenty two minutes of video from the unique perspective of the inside of my front pocket. Fascinating stuff!! Once I noticed a light coming from my pocket and (Got PISSED. I get a lot of random forced ads, lately. Need to upgrade something or everything, maybe) I pulled it out to (curse, properly) find out why and BINGO! I was videoing my mug.
So I slowed it way down as much as my phone can (1/4 speed?) and took a screen shot at just the right moment, cropped most of the white sky out and here we go:
7Am today, getting ready for another day of packing.
Oh, that's my hand in the lower quadrant, not a small butt. I was rescuing some packing materials from the recycle bin at the time. I SHOULD be chasing butts, though! Good call.

It's someone else's turn, now.

Probably right. I removed the attachment. Please go into that secret place and remove the image. Please.
I was feeling light hearted, but I suppose some of that feeling can make a brain light before we know it. But, honestly, as generic as my looks are, almost anyone can find me around every corner, most especially at Christmas. :lol1:

I definitely did not mean to stomp on your lightheartedness. Just cause I'm personally too paranoid to put my photo out there doesn't mean everyone has to be.

For the record, I can totally do covid-safe food prep when the situation calls for it. I have a local friend who's immunocompromised in a whole bunch of ways as well as very specific dietary restrictions, and I still managed to deliver her and her husband some treats last holiday.

Thanks for double checking, Odeon. I have no idea what came over me. I have posted a pic of my image in the past, but that was many years ago.
I'll post some fun pics soon. Like the panoramic river with seven thonged asses above the water, if I kept it.

I mentioned that my Standard for cookies that I might eat is fairly specific.
It was rude of me to refuse your cookie. Can I change my mind and make it all up to you?
I mean, hell there is no reason to be rude and the gesture of "Cookie" should be seen in its own light, right?
I would love to come to my senses and accept your cookie. I really don't know what I am afraid of, since I support a troop of well fed squirrels who would help me in case there were leftover parts of the cookie.
Thank you.

I've done it so many times, but I am going to begin abusing the privilege for the fun of it. I think we all should choose a possibly funny sign off to every post for a while and see where it goes, again. Yeah, nothing new just a fun game that makes no sense, except to who and possibly what you just signed off on and Gave Your GO Ahead.
So, mine is:
Thank you
Try to imagine what that means.

I'm confused.
But never mind me.

I think I'm still a little confused too. Especially when I got randomly thanked in another thread. But what the heck, a little confusion is fun.
Maybe I should start signing off random posts with a cookie.

Ok, what's your standard for cookies then?
I mentioned this before ... Kinda feel good about it.
I have been on a high fiber, low carb "cleanse" for over two years to boost antioxidant availability in my bloodstream. I have lost eleven percent of my body weight during these latest episodes and made my doctor happy. She actually lowered the dosage of my blood pressure medication during my recent visits.
I only eat sweets or any heavy carbos if I MADE THEM MYSELF! That way I know exactly what harm to which I am subjecting my bio-cleanse efforts.
Sorry, but no "foreign" cookies for me.
-
Ahh, gotcha. I must have missed that previous post. Far be it from me to mess with a diet that's working that well.
