Title: Well everyone I tested positive for CoronaVirus
Post by: Jesse on November 17, 2021, 09:26:14 AM
Yesterday I got tested and Bam! Positive. I've had it for almost a week and a half. Also I'm fully Vaccinated. I had a break through case

My symptoms so far are: Fatigue, Dizziness, Mild body aches, "Flu like Symptoms" burning nostrils, congestion, coughing. I don't have any trouble breathing  overall its similar to a really bad Flu if you've ever had one

Hopefully nobody else has gotten sick with it. It's going around bad where I live

That sucks - I've known people who got it and it's not to be taken lightly even when vaccinated.

Get well soon.

Thanks man. Yeah this Virus is really something else, can't imagine how bad it would really be without being vaccinated. I guess I can blame China but that'll do no good

Thanks again

That's bad luck. And all those symptoms even though you've been vaccinated. Well I hope you feel back to normal very soon.

Post by: Jesse on November 17, 2021, 07:46:52 PM
Thanks Gary the Gopher. Yeah Renaeden I was surprised too. I thought I wouldn't catch this Virus, but even then all the symptoms... The one that really messed me up was the losing the sense of smell and taste, I can't tell you how it messes with your mind if you can't smell or taste your food. and some food tastes weird, I would say 10 days or so in I only have 30% of both sense back

For two days I was dizzy, and there was a brief moment when I coughed I developed a pain in my back, that hurt fairly well and I could feel it each time I coughed but that lasted only for a day.

It was still a pretty rough ride for about 4 days though so happy I was vaccinated however

Hope this works out OK for you.

Same boat here, positive for the two more common antibodies. Meaning I've had both variants at some time, but I was never sick. Lucky.

Ahh. Lucky you didn't have symptoms, My mom also got it and so did my niece and she got a kidney infection with it. She wasn't vaccinated though, and my mom was sick for about 2 weeks. We all live together so we basically had it all at the same time. My niece got sick first and caught it from work. She's a waitress at a local restaurant

Last year, my oldest living aunt had suffered for three months getting better, then bad again. She died from Covid after trying her best to survive what she thought was a bad cold that won't go away. She was also suffering a bit with the beginning of Alzheimer's. She could not understand why it would not go away after a week or so.
It was hard to watch her go down fighting so hard and just die one day.

Very old are tragically vulnerable. She was still strong though, survived cancer twice, lost two of her daughters to the same cancer and Covid got her down. She was a very strong matriarch to the family.

My daughter is a host at a restaurant since before all this. My son worked for a grocery store ... basically, constantly exposed. Kept their jobs through it all.
I am at high risk also due to my age. Still worried about all of us.

Your niece and mom OK, now?

I had almost no symptoms. Really mild sniffles. But, the after-effects came every couple weeks, and got progressively worse (on and off) over most of 2020. And then they lessened more generally - though I still get problems.

Oh thanks for asking DirtDawg. Yeah they are both fine now, my mom is in her 60s and niece is in her early 20s. Both sick for about 2 weeks. So thankful they are ok, my mother does have ongoing fatigue though. my taste and smell are about 80% of what they were and Im congested most days like I have a cold but other than that I have some insomnia but I had that before COVID. So all in all dong ok

Good to hear. After effects don't sound pleasant, though. Hope it goes away some day.

They are recommending a booster for us oldsters.  Probably a no-brainer for your age group as well.

I took my normal flu shot last month. I haven't missed one in ten years.
I have a doctor appointment next month. I'll have her test me again like last visit and make the decision after her assessment.

Been away for a bit. Glad you're doing good now Jesse. :asthing:
Youngest nephew tested positive a few weeks back, than the older one, BIL & SIL followed...and other nephew.

All the nephews had it bad, but none were in the hospital for it, none had the shot. BIL & SIL had mild symptoms (they had the shot).
A friend's husband down the road was on a vent for awhile, but is getting better (no shot).

SO's bartender just tested positive 2 days ago (shot? no clue, SO doesn't feel it's "his" place to ask  ::)).

A lot not vaccinated around here and still refusing to do so (including my son) and a lot of crap over masks (I still wear one and get sh*t about it almost everywhere I go). Keeps a large percentage from talking to me also...which is kind of a bonus.  :zoinks:

Don't think it's a question of "if" anymore as much as "when" and who shakes it off the best. Got both shots months back, still have to get the booster yet...the gambling odds seem a little better with it than without.

In my darker moments, I tend to think it should just be allowed to have its course and prune the population. The problem is, the survivors probably won't have learned anything.

What did you get for aftereffects?

Ooops. Missed this.

Periodic brain fog, feeling like a stroke was about to happen, difficulty breathing when climbing my hill. Also ENHANCED sense of smell.
But, it all came in waves. Slowly decreased over 2020. I still don't feel 'right' but, I can't tell if it's COVID or just out of shape now.

Oddly, chocolate seemed to help beat it.

Yet...the outcome of that 'stupidity' may be in humanity's best survival basis. Notably, we are WAY overpopulated.
This little thing ain't gonna be enough - but a powerful sequence of equally stupid seeming moves may be our only way out of the crises we've afflicted ourselves with. Certainly more effective than actual attempts to resolve them through reason are.

Yet...the outcome of that 'stupidity' may be in humanity's best survival basis.

It's really not.

We're going to be soon scarce of resources, the environment has been fucked harder than your cat on a Wednesday and instead of doing anything to fix things, humans would rather wallow in misinformation and even fight to ensure our end.

It's all rather depressing to think about.

If we could manage to fuck up something smaller - like a virus - it could set us back before we can do more real damage.
Unfortunately, Covid was never going to manage that. Fingers crossed for something really nasty.

Humanity is overrated.

All things are.

I had been tested positive for covid Last Thursday and still have some symptoms this time round. Caught it twice now, first time being around March 2020.
1st time being mild to moderate but the 2nd was much milder but unfortunately feels like it lasted longer than the 1st time.

First time right after New Years for me. Haven't got my sense of smell/taste back yet, fatigue is annoying...just will not go away. Hubby bounced back after about only 3-4 days.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks. The fatigue and the body aches is the part that got me big time but surprisingly this time, it didn't affect my lungs at the slightest.... Thankfully. Most people tend to take around 3-4 days. Just got my taste back a few days ago.

Sometimes it could take a good 3 months for it to fully go away I've heard in some cases.

IDK I have always been an allergic mess...used to annoy me to no end when people who marinated in perfume etc would move even closer in the store when I started coughing/wheezing...or since I'm small I would get these random nutjobs who seemed to find it amusing to get in my personal space as much as humanly possible.

Not since this began now...just give a little cough, or sneeze and *poof* they scatter.  :lol1:

Doctor said I tested negative, but she wanted to give me the booster version anyway. She informed me that the current booster is far more effective than most of the ones originally produced.

Also she took me off of one of my medications. Apparently I am managing my cholesterol quite well on my own and the 'staten seems to be too much.  We'll know for sure after a few months when I visit again.

My new digs makes biking so much easier. I can just walk, pushing my bike a bit and then RIP down the golf cart trails and NO FUCKING CARS trying to kill me!!
Pretty sure I can outrun those golf carts anyway. Been really cold though. Haven't seen many golf carts. A few courageous dog runners are the only other people I see out there. So far, I LOVE IT!!

Got my second round a couple weeks ago. Worse than the first off the bat - but doesn't seem to have the long term effects (yet at least). Was about equivalent to my old bi-annual (or so) bad colds - lasting more than a week. Didn't shut down taste/smell, but made everything smell/taste like burning rubber.

I just found out 20 minutes ago that I tested positive for Covid.   I was tested yesterday morning and the results had just come in.  Colonoscopy is to be cancelled, now I have to jump thru hoops to make sure my job at walmart is notified.  I had a "cold" about 2 weeks ago, guess it wasn't a cold.  Good thing I was vaccinated, that probably saved me from worse results.  Oh well, at least I can eat some real food now until I am scheduled again.   :headhurts:

Increased warmer weather and folks believing the worst is over, so folks get complacent.  The number of infections is going up in NH and there is that group that still won't be vaccinated or take precautions.   ::)  The human herd can still be stupid!  The Spanish flu epidemic of last century lasted 4+ years before it died down.  History repeats itself.

Did you see Fauci compare the Spanish Flu with this one? It was amazing how similar they were.

I thought about all this the other day when shopping. I actively avoid people still but people no longer care so it's getting harder and harder. People forget quickly.

Some newspapers had headlines stating that "things will never go back to normal" for just a few months ago. FFS.

My psychologist has had Covid, I talked to her about it yesterday at my appointment. She said she was so careful about distancing and hygiene but then she went to her grandson's first birthday party and caught it there from her sister-in-law who had said she didn't feel well. Her sister-in-law shouldn't have gone to the party! Practically everyone there came down with Covid within the next week.

My stepdad Peter got Covid from the golf club, went home and passed it on to Mum. He's been fine, mostly, still "eating for Australia" as my mum said. But she's spending most of her time in bed feeling awful.

I hope they both get better soon.

Both kids and I have had it.
My wife has never tested positive and according to all the massive bloodwork they did when she almost died a while back, she has no antibodies for any of the strains, so she has never had it, even though she lives with three other people who have had it.
My daughter had one strain and my son had another. I'm the only one of us who has had two strains of Covid19.
Now there's a third identifiable strain, I understand.
Knocking on wood here, but none of us have gotten sick.

Hope your parents come out of it just fine!

(all that about us is supposed to encourage you!)

Doctors have found that my mum has a 'leaky valve' in her heart. She complained of breathlessness after she had Covid, so tests were done and that was found. I don't know if Covid caused her heart problem or not. Pretty shitty if it did.

My mother is just recovering from having had it. It didn't get too bad for her, just a bad cold.

I tested positive a year ago by accident when I was taking the travel test to return from my Christmas trip. Never showed any symptoms and no one around me got it, even though I couldn't isolate completely due to the cub. Possible false positive.

I'm not sure that mine have ever come back to "normal." I had no other symptoms, but I noticed that I could no longer taste mustard at first.

I have often thought that I had weird taste buds. I can taste (and smell) metals in food. The imitation chocolate flavors they add to cheap chocolates is a NO GO for me. Most kid candies are, too. They smell like someone added some dumpster chemical spill flavor to the mix.

I don’t like the taste of canned foods, including canned tomatoes. I don’t know why TV chefs use those for cooking instead of fresh ones on the vine, the latter tastes 10x better to me.

I tend to agree. I grew up with lots of canned foods, but now I prefer frozen if we can't use fresh, especially for vegetables.

Where we live now we can not grow "produce" due the HOA restrictions. Any plants for food have to be kept in containers.
Growing tomatoes to fruiting stage in some kind of pot is difficult. I know people do this and I have too, but it requires constant care and more than once a day watering.

A mature tomato root system would fill a 55 gallon drum if you expect more than a token handful of tomatoes or so.

Now, I cheat some.
I grew onions, herbs and garlic chives all around my back patio last year. I plan on expanding some this year as the weather turns.
I already have onions and garlic growing and my rosemary has survived the worst month of cold since they are cold hardy, mostly.

I discovered that Parmesan cheese is no longer an option because it now smells like puke. A shame because I did a pretty mean Carbonara.

I'd describe my taste buds as very unreliable. Some things are just fine while others are off. It's very difficult to know for sure.

Yeah, frozen is definitely better than canned. If you can grow onions, you can grow potatoes, right? You can buy potato bags where you transfer soil from the bottom to the top (as potatoes tend to keep rising to the surface and going green).

Rosemary is delicious with fried or roast potatoes and bacon. Yummmmmmm. Sage is good with potatoes too.

Simple recipe that has nothing to do with potatoes: A day old bread roll torn up into inch chunks, coated very lightly in olive oil, sprinkled with grated gruyère cheese and roasted. REALLY REALLY good.

Ugh, I hope I never have to move to a place with an HOA. No vegetable garden? Dealbreaker right there.

Problem is that if you move to a nicer home like we did, you will be strapped down by an HOA of some sort.

I have read the entire eighty seven page document of "rules" and re-read certain parts, but about ninety percent of the statement has to do with any construction you might plan in the future and extreme restrictions to home improvement crews doing work in the neighborhood.

... and the HOA management company is based in Pennsylvania, FFS!
There are a number of HOA trucks that cruise through on a weekly basis doing odd things like clearing drains after a hard rain, trimming up trees encroaching upon the street, tending beauty areas like the waterfall/pond entranceway, warning people that their mailbox post is leaning or that someone left a shed door open overnight. They do some good and some nonsense busy body shit.

There might be some hope for your Carbonara. It's been about a year since I was first shown to have two variants of antibodies present, indicating I had been exposed and infected by Covid 19.

I can taste mustard now, at least a little. Not yet the same, but at least I can taste it again.

There was no aversion to mustard, though. Other than eating something with no flavor that I used to use just for its flavor. Kind of like some of those grass salads I see some folk trying to choke down. I could eat that, too, I just don't want to.

At the current prices of fresh foods, anything I can grow will be more of a pleasure than ever before.

Being restricted to container gardening means I will have to re-hone my skills a bit.
I don't feel defeated, just hobbled some.

When I was still apartment living I used to grow several potato plants in a large garbage can that sat on my back deck.
It worked.

My vague plan if I got to the point of being able to afford that is to buy a lot or a condemned house in an older neighbourhood that doesn't have an HOA, and build from scratch with a custom design. I'm staying the hell away from the kind of neighborhood where they have rules about architectural styles, the colour you can paint your house, or there's one construction company that does all the building in the area.

Technically correct, but I would not be able to sneak in eight or ten barrels out back just to fill my freezer with fresh, home made tomato sauce for the winter.
I raised that many tomatoes at the old place for over twenty years and put up dozens of quarts of sauce, just in my city small back yard, every year.

I'm pretty sure we'll have another wave sooner or later, but with many people having had it and with many people vaccinated, maybe it won't be as bad. Hopefully there won't be room for that many mutations.

But I worry about other parts of the world, and I worry about society not learning anything. I worry about the next pandemic.

I never had aversions to foods. Mainly what I experienced was a lack of taste sensation with certain things. One of my favorite flavors is mustard and that pleasure was gone for a couple of years.
I have either gotten the taste for it back or relearned to enjoy it somehow.
