Title: What'cha Playing?
Post by: 'Butterflies' on July 07, 2013, 07:35:48 PM
If I had to list a hobby, it would be computer games.

So, I wanna know what you guys are playing, and if it's any good.

My favourite types of games are open-world/non-linear types, usually, but not always RPGs. Oblivion and Fallout 3/NV are my favourite ever.

Ive just completed Torchlight 2, which was a great, simple, little hack 'n slash. I really enjoyed it.
Ive just about finished Borderlands 2 which is great, and I'm just starting Bioshock: Infinite. Bioshock looks stunning, although Im finding it really hard to get into, because of the forced auto-save. It could be ten minutes between save points, and I tend to play in short bursts :grrr: Just let me save the damned game when I want to save it :grrr:

If its on the computer, then yes :green:

Have to admit, Im not much good at chess. In fact, Im hopeless :thumbdn: I can play, and I know how all the pieces move, but that just makes my incompetence even more pathetic

I dont think Ive ever beaten a sober opponent in my life

Well that dude is one of the cat people, natives that live on some distant planet. He's not really a character, because you only see him for like ten seconds out of the game.

Thats pretty cool. Its Space Invaders, without the "bases"

I had an old BBC when I was a baby, and I played Space Invaders all the time.

And Manic Miner, Jetpac, and Asteroids? for the Spectrum. Happy days.

I learned young to be a geek

Now THESE are fucking games, man. Most of you probably haven't even seen them probably, but I highly recommend you give them a chance.

Thats kind of a shame. Large dancing penises are a sadly overlooked part of modern computer games :(

That looks kinda like James Pond. I had it for the amiga, I think.

And, yeah, I do agree. Retro games are cool. Especially when they have an infinite lifes cheat. I cant handle getting killed, and having to start again.

Lolno. That's megaman. And part of the nostalgia for me is the frustration of dying, and wanting to whip the game's ass no matter what. I played without cheat codes even as a small child, and beat these games to death.

I had Ghosts and Goblins for the Atari ST, I think. It was a cool game.

I would think games like Ghosts and Goblins were a big influence on Rogue Legacy.

I had a cheat code. I cant remember if it gave me infinite lives, or made me invincible. Dont think I ever managed to complete it though. It kept bombing out on me :grrr:

Lemmings 2 on the Mega Drive. Already have the Amiga version, but the music on this version is far superior.

Even with a cheat like infinite lives, you have to play through the game twice. YEAH. When you beat the final boss, it sends you back to the beginning and you have to fight your way back through to actually beat the game.

Lemmings was awesome, until they made that 3D Lemmings. That was just confusing and shit :thumbdn:

I never completed it then. I would have remembered the frustration if I had to replay it over again

I never played Lemmings 3D. I've played Lemmings 3 (was Amiga AGA and PC only), but that was the worst out of the lot IMO.

I remember it all right. Its a fun game, well made, great graphics and control. All around classic. But i'd played it enough for a lifetime as a boy.

I loved Tribes when I was a kid. Was one of my favourite Amiga games. Im sure I came across an android touchscreen version of Lemmings1 or 2 recently, but it was too awkward to pick out the Lemmings with my finger.
Seems like a pretty big design flaw to me. Apart from small kids, my hands are probably smaller than most folk who would play the game :(

Gameplay wise, nothing beats a mouse for Lemmings. This is why I still play the Amiga versions, and not play any of the console ports. The Mega Drive version of Lemmings 2 I have is purely for the music, because it's awesome.

Doing a re-re-re-re-playthrough of Morrowind, with the fan-made expansions of the mainland. That constitutes a huge game! The original is tremendous enough, but with added provinces (each one true to game lore) the finished area will be upto 10 times the original size.
so much to explore O.-

Ive heard of that, but Ive been putting off downloading it, in the hope it'll be finished one day, and I can play the fully finished version.
I know that with fan-made mods, they can end up never being finished.

Ive seen that Skywind is being produced. Its a fan-made mod, converting Morrowind into the Skyrim engine. I really hope they manage to finish that. I would love to play it.
