Family photo?

Is that a TV on the wall?

It's common for funeral homes to have monitors for display of photos before and after service.

Ah, I did not know that.  We had portraits hung from the walls to remind us of the dearly departed.

The last one I went to, a family memeber had scanned photos of the departed from throughout their life and made them into a slide show accompanied by music they enjoyed. It was nice.

There was a slide show like that at a wake I attended a few years ago too, a very nice tribute.  :)

I wanted to take a picture of my dad in the coffin but didn't dare to.

Would the rest of the family have misunderstood and given you a hard time about it?  ???

We took photos of my mom in her coffin.

PS:  :plus: for using coffin correctly.

A casket becomes a coffin when the body is placed in it.

Does anyone know the difference between a death notice and an obituary?

Never heard of that and thought they were interchangeable. Looked it up and found the distinction to be construction and function.

I stand corrected.  Maybe it's a New Orleans thing.

Not necessarily a laugh, but surely a guffaw.  This from a blogspot of a Mennonite woman.

"And They Think Americans Are Crazy."
Yesterday I ran into my friend JoAnn in town and she told me her mother-in-law in Holland had passed away recently. She had lived and died in her own home, and always refused to go to a nursing home, partly because she was an independent person and partly because she was afraid of Holland's practice of euthanasia. I related this at the supper table. Jenny wondered what euthanasia was. I told her.
She exclaimed:

"So you can't have a slingshot in Holland but you can kill old people??!!"
