Any other aviation freaks here?
« on: June 09, 2008, 06:43:43 AM »
I'm one of those people who still enjoys watching planes fly by.  From my apartment balcony, I can see the traffic from an international airport, an Air Force base, and a nearby small airport (for Cessnas, etc.).  Quite entertaining just after sunset.  Sometimes I can see as many as six aircraft in the sky at once.  Who else enjoys watching that kind of stuff?

There, you can amuse yourself for hours downloading aviation photos.

I love airplanes and am in the landing fly over zone for my local airport mostly small planes but a lot of corporate jets too.  No military bases nearby but they make and test the blackhawk helicopters here once even had one do an emergency landing on the beach less than a mile away  I don't just watch them but listen also to their voice coms on a scanner

I get a lot of air traffic where I'm at. The planes are fun to watch, but the helicopters piss me off sometimes. They fly too close to the ground. It hasn't been as bad as a couple years ago, but there are still a couple idiots who like try their luck a little too close to power lines. Oh and the sound of helicopters up close is something God awful.

Experience has taught me that interest begets expectation, and expectation beget disappointment, so the key to avoiding disappointment is to avoid interest. A equals B equals C Equals A, or whatever. I also don't have a lot of interest in being a good person or a bad person. From what I can tell, either way, you're screwed. Here is a photo of me getting out of a B-17 some years ago

...The planes are fun to watch, but the helicopters piss me off sometimes...

Police helicopters fly over my neighborhood all the time, and yes they are annoying.  Sometimes they're looking for somebody because they've got the spotlight on.  Other times I think they're just practicing, over my neighborhood because it's not one where the residents are likely to sue to make them practice somewhere else.  I'm sure if I lived in some SoccerMomLand suburb, the sky would be a lot quieter at night.

On another forum, I once saw these referred to as "ghetto birds".

You tempt me to go tour around one of the bases.

The place where I'm at has very little crime, so I can hardly even remember what a police helicopter looks like.

I can, but it's too much work and so I won't bother.
