Girl trouble, mostly. Having been a girl once myself (unbelievable as it sounds), I try to act as anthropological consultant. Can't do much more, sadly, than lend a sympathetic ear — when what I'd really like to do is find the young "ladies" (using the term loosely) and bitchslap them into next week.

I used to do that for my husband when we were friends and he had girl trouble.  You can try to explain why the girl may have done whatever she did, but you're right that you are mostly a sympathetic ear to listen and a shoulder to cry on.
