I made and ate a simple Chinese dish for dinner today. (Turkey fillets, mie/noodles and lots of greens out of the wok.) It's quite Ok and I do try but still it's not what I wish it to taste like.. (um, like the food I order at the restaurant)

Is it possible that the Chinese restaurants order their food from a common wholesaler?  I find that most of the dishes taste the same regardless of the restaurant.  If that's the case you probably wouldn't be able to duplicate it.  I know it's true for egg/spring rolls and the sweet and sour sauce.

The common wholesaler might very well be the case.. but that doesn't have to mean I will not eventually get my tjap-tjoy/chop suey like dish more towards those ordered in Ch. restaurants.

And yeah, it probably has to do with me not having the right sauce but looked at the ingredients of your mentioned sauce, Jack.. and I don't think that's the one (I miss in my dish). The curry powder (with mustard seeds) and coconut cream aren't in it, I think. Thanks for opting it though.

Going to look for sauces used in the Chinese cuisine soon and hopefully find out which one I miss.

No problem. The interwebs says that's the sauce commonly used by take aways, so thought it worth passing on; saw there's three flavors from that brand.

the usual oatmeal with raisins, dates and walnuts with some crunchy peanut butter stirred in.
White beans, ground meat (mince) and rice with vegetables as a top of stove casserole with beets as a salad.

No lunch
Dinner was red beans and garlic butter rice with sausage, biscuits with apricot jelly.

Made and ate pasta Bolognese this evening. Made the pasta dough myself but think I'll return to my beloved (supermarket bought) spaghetti again for the eggs in my dough makes the dish a tad heavier. Spaghetti is lighter, nicer and of course, doesn't take me half an hour work to make it.

Well, it tasted quite okay.. could've used an extra glove of garlic in it.. Oh, and some fresh basil.. but some snails or insects ate the whole plant in the garden. :rollingpin:

^ Yeah maybe. Never had them though. Eating escargot/snails just never seemed that inviting to me.

I give the yard snails I find to the blackbird or at least throw them into the bird 'bath'. Some might escape from there but that's okay.

Once was more than enough for me.  Didn't like the rubbery texture.  Have you tried snail salad?

^ Nup, nah, njeff.. never had anything with a snail in it, I think. Maybe as a kiddo my father give me some once. Can't remember but for sure my father was a very 'experimental eater'. Thymus (veal/part of brain), snails, frog's legs and I dunno.. other stuff I tend to avoid (or am oblivious of).

Guess I'm quite conservative culinary. Well, I do experiment fcourse, learning to become a better cook.

Snail salad are the tender green shoots and leaves that a snail would eat.
