Have you ever melted them (use a double boiler technique) and made candied apples with them. I've used "Red Hots" also.

Red Hots are more mildly flavored.

No, I never have done that, but it sounds good.  I have made homemade cinnamon and peppermint hard candy from sugar, corn syrup, flavor, and color, though.  I have a hard candy mold that makes candy that looks like little jewels.
