There's a list here, not sure how busy any of them are though.

The couple that I looked at seemed deader than this one.

I think the problem that anyone has setting up an alternative to WP is that hard to get members to stick around whilst its building up the volume of members and posts per day.  People generally seem to want to go to an already thriving site with a huge number of posts per day, even if the  majority of these posts are dull.

And there are corners of WP, which are of interest
to people. It's just so damned spamful. Needs more
moderation - but that's not going to happen. So, it
ends up being like a kiddie land, in large sections.

Here, the spam's not too bad, mainly because of
the small size. But how many god damned "how
have you masturbated your cat today?" threads
does a site need?

I've not been on WP for about 4 years now.

It was probably better then.
The heaviest moving shit is
the spam - and it's all of
the cat masturbation variety.

That and the more topical,
"are you like this too?" threads;
as well as the perennial pity party.

Ah, I'm not in a great mood - I'm
blowing work off, and blaming the
lack of proper distraction for my feelings.

Yeah. I really wish my connection had
stayed down. It's just too tempting to
waste my time on the net.

Even then it was developing a pity party feel about it.  I think sometimes the pity party stuff is useful, I suppose it can help people feel less like freaks, unfortunately it seemed like a lot of people were never leaving the party and I don't think that's helpful in the long term.

Well, to be fair, the only reason I was upset
about my post was ragging on that aspect.

I used to really try to help a couple of people,
but I've pretty much become callous to the
whole thing. That, and the couple that I was
most worried about disappeared. They were
in situations where they were being controlled
and forced onto drugs, and could feel their minds
being eaten away. Everything that I hate.

There was also a guy in Iraq, and no one
else seemed to have any sympathy for him
at all. But a lot of them are just in there every
day, posting how "they're bored" or some such
crap. Hell, I understand, but I just don't have the
tolerance for it. And give them any advice, and they
immediately shoot it down, neither trying nor looking
for their own route.

I think people sometimes just want telling that they can't make things better for themselves, its much easier to wallow than it is to get off your arse and do something about the things that suck in your life.  If people want to wallow, let them, but can they at least be honest about what they're doing?

I guess. I just don't have the energy to care now.
I was getting something out of it, at first, but
burnt out, pretty fast.

Now, I pretty much just get on to see whether
the place is imploding, and to make a few comments
in the adult section - hole of xxx topics (hah!) that
it's called.

I got some fun taunting a couple of members who
didn't seem to realize it, but one's disappeared,
and it gets boring insulting those who are too
self-centered to even realize that they're under
attack.
