I'm still allowed to get frustrated that I can't deal with some emotional relationships and that I have let a lot of people down who probably loved me more than I could ever show them.

oh bah. don't you think i regret loads of crap? being an aspie in this world has been pretty fuckin hellish. but it's not all autisms fault. it's because the world is so fucked up.

and why do you feel guilty for being yourself? if someone loves you and you don't love them, um, that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Not in my case specifically.  No, I don't feel guilty about being myself and I don't have any regrets.  I do however feel sad that times in my life that could have been more meaningful for the other person have been let down by my inability to show them how much I cared.  It's not a regret as such, but a sadness that I may have hurt people unintentionally.  I think most people with AS would relate to feeling sad about unintentionally hurting the innocent.

ILS, I do believe this was my initial answer.  And that's OK.  It's just how I feel sometimes.  Driven by frustration.  As per my last sentence, I do believe that I have had a reasonably happy life, thanks in some part to AS, so I feel better off than 70% of people.  If my inability to communicate has fucked up some of my more meaningful relationships, I guess it's ok, because at the end of the day, I can live with being by myself and my intelligence has afforded me a life not many get a chance to experience.

I answered SG's question, as in, yes, there are times I get frustrated and I wish I didn't have it.  Much like guys wish sometimes they weren't testosterone driven, but that doesn't mean they'd chop off their cock for a minute.
