my last name was origionally burntsson or whatever the equivelent last name of benson is in sweedish. when my great grandfather came over on the boat, they just couldnt pronounce it at ellis island sooo they named me benson.

If it was a Swedish name it was most probably Bengtsson or maybe Berntsson, though Bengtsson is much more common. I have an uncle in Florida, who changed his first name from "Bengt" to "Ben" after becomming a US citizen.
