I make do with a good-quality pair of reusable earplugs.  They block most of the traffic and people noises from outside, and also most of the whines, buzzes, hums, tick-tocks, clicks and other annoying indoor sounds.

I don't like the feeling of something in my ears. I can't even use those ear bud headphones, not even good ones that are squishy and form fitting.
