So what's the deal with the hips? Can't find even ground to stand on in Sweden?

Oh, yes, the ground here is one of the few things that are actually very good, especially in western Sweden. Good granite. I don't know why, actually. I used to walk and ride my bicycle a lot when I was younger.

It is my knees which will fail, first, I believe. I ran a good bit in my youth and my knees are not what they used to be. I have an uncle who had both hips surgically replaced.  He basically worked himself to death on the oil drilling rigs. One of his hips had a hole completely through the socket joint in his pelvis and the cartilage was broken and lodged on the outside of his hipjoint. That was about ten years ago and he's still going at seventy something without hip problems.

No, the West Coast is a rocky place.

My hip's been bothering me on and off for months now. Don't really know why, and have preferred my dad's old cane to seeing a Doctor about it. If I don't tell a medical professional about my problem, it's just a nuisance.

My left hip has been bothering me as well for the last few months.  I feel it especially when I'v been sitting at the computer for any length of time or in my easy chair.  I'm shuddering at the thought of the eight hour car trips to NY this summer!  Ouch
