Possible broken coccyx
« on: July 25, 2018, 01:15:25 AM »
Hey everyone,
so I've been away for quite a while, and recently decided to involve myself in forums, as I once would. So, this is my starting point, I suppose, and depending on whether there is a lot of censorship in my posts, I ought to attend the boards here more often than I have been.

The other night was a bit of a drama, as I was out with a couple of mates, doing a hotbox in the car, and afterward we left our secluded spot to return to my house for drinks, and watching a tv series, 'Shameless', which isn't too bad, if you're looking for something grounded in a reality many of us below the poverty line are faced.

If you're familiar with the hotbox, you'll know the windows fog up quite a bit, and the night before last was no exception. Well, my mate didn't want to wipe the windscreen - as it leaves streak marks on it, and wouldn't use the demisters, as he was trying to conserve the little fuel he had left, and so we drove back to my house without adequate vision through the windscreen. Well!! He mounted the curb, and ran directly into a power pole.

I was in the backseat, and as a result, was basically punched in the arse by the steel undercarriage beneath the cushioned seat, as the car's rear end lifted on impact. I went into the emergency dept' only a few hours ago, and was told there's nothing they can do for a fractured coccyx. All I can do is rest and use pain relief medications, which they wouldn't supply. Since I was broke, earlier on today, I went into the supermarket and flogged a variety of pain-killers. I'm doing OK with those, at the moment, but it's still excruciating to get into, and out of, a seated position.

I haven't broken my coccyx, but I know someone who has and they said it hurt to sit for ages. Really sorry this happened to you and I reckon the hospital was stingy for not even giving you a script for something stronger than you can get at the shops.

Btw, welcome back.

Why some people insist on driving when they can't even see the road is beyond me.

I'm just glad for you that it wasn't worse.

Had some back troubles in the past, but never that low.

Good luck with this.

Well, he saved on gas, but he's got one hell of a repair bill.

Not sure if it will help, but lying on your stomach with a heating pad or ice on your behind?  Sitting on the pad might make it too hot.

Just don't use mentholated products in the area.

I cracked my tailbone when I was a teenager. It was about three months of terrible pain, but that was also sitting on wooden seats in school all day. Who could have ever known whiskey and rollerskates aren't a good thing.  :dunno:

renaeden: Something stronger would be great but I'm coping - thanks for the welcoming :)

Al Swearengen: Lol, my arsehole hurts!

Minister of silly walks: For sure it could have been worse. I'm thankful that we were all wearing seat belts.

Dirt Dawg: Thanks buddy!

Queen Victoria: I haven't tried using a heat pack yet. I thought they were used primarily for muscular pain, but I'm willing to give it a go, if I can find that heat pack my Mum bought me years ago.

Gopher Gary: Three months!? I was told it would "only" take 6-8 weeks :/

About the heat/cold thing ...

Is there swelling? My doc told me that as long as swelling is present (bad knee with liquid accumulating, front and back) I should use as much cold as I could take for as long as I could take it.
That was a fully functioning, just painful, pissed off knee, though, not a buttbone.

DirtDawg: There's no swelling that I can find. I thought heat would help, but I need someone to take another look at it. I might get an x-ray done to make sure it isn't too bad. So heat pack wouldn't help with the pain?

Jack: Thanks mate :)

Heat will increase blood flow and speed the healing process.

Cold will reduce swelling/pain/inflammation following the injury.

Once you're over the swelling and inflammation, switch to heat.

Yeah, like this for temporary injuries. Quite another approach for debilitating, long term, never ever going to heal discomforts.

But HELL!! Go get yourself a few X-rays and determine the extent of your injury.
That is step one!
