Incidentally, Pennsylvania is named after William Pencil, the inventor of the pencil.  True story.

That wasn't what I learned anyway. :laugh:

William Penn, a Quaker was given the deed by King Charles II...he settled it with a group of other Quakers in an attempt to avoid the religious persecution they had been subjected to back in England.

He wanted to name it Sylvania...which means in Latin..."of the forst" or "woodlands".

King Charles II dubbed it Pennsylvania....ie: Penn's woods

It was nicknamed "The Keystone State" because it was the middle colony of the original 13 colonies.

...or you can refer to it as Pennsyltucky like I do most days. :zoinks:
