My father has no power and they are telling people they may not get their power back on for a week :zombiefuck:

Many people around here are going to be without power for at least a few days.  :thumbdn:

I'm ultimately grateful for the ice storm in '08 and the Asian longhorned beetle infestation
of the following spring/summer.  My street has very few trees left to pull down any more
power lines, which means   :crossed:   we may get through this winter without losing power.

It's not only your street that you have to worry about, but the streets that carry the power to your street.

Ooops, had a moment of dum.  :paperbag:

When a tropical storm went through Houston TX a few years ago, the power lines were majorly broken.  By that I mean some streets every wire between every pole was broken because there hadn't been high enough winds for several years to take off weak branches.  Some areas did not get power back for a month because there might have been 12 to 15 downed wires on a street.

I'm glad most of our wires are underground. Only high voltage lines are above surface here.

Weather is warmish, for November. And dry, but, with the sense of water in the air. The pavement got wetter and wetter during the day. Groundwater didn't evaporate I guess.

The weather is quite nice here. Dry and sunny. Temperature is about 16/17*C at the moment.

it was EXTREMELY foggy early this morning, with lots of advisories and traffic crawling. You could only see a few hundred feet in front of you.   Not good with the mountains already obscuring your view.

^Similar, except it has rained so much that my stepdad came home from golf early. That is a very rare occurrence.

Around 10C and sunny. In November. This is strange.

It's getting dark already.  It's only 4pm here, but the cloud cover is so thick that it's been gloomy twilight all day.
