Typical winter day - cloudy, dark and snowy in the morning, a little sun in the afternoon. Low of twenty eight, high of thirty two. It would be boring, but touching the freezing mark after this past weekend's subzero temperatures feels like a heatwave!

Freezing temperatures, but clear skies. Quite nice, actually.

Windy, just below freezing, but no snow since yesterday. Funny thing is that I've been too lazy to shovel (it's only a couple of inches) and the only tracks on the sidewalk on the north side were from a cat and a bunny. No one walked down that sidewalk ALL day! Very strange.

Wet and shitty.  I pruned stuff in the garden during a brief dryish spell today.

Is there a time of year in Scotland that isn't wet?

Is there a time of year in Scotland that isn't wet?

It's usually twice as wet in winter as it is in summer, but summer is pretty wet too.  The last couple of years have been particularly wet, though; we didn't have anything that could be called summer here last year, even by our standards, and the winter before this one was the worst I've ever seen, since it rained almost every day and was constantly dark and depressing and horrible.  This winter is a little better, but not by much.  We used to get frequent dry frosts during winter and the ground would be frozen for most of it and there would be blue skies and crisp air and ice a fair bit of the time, but now it just rains constantly and everything's soaked and muddy, and it's a constant twilight because of the thick cloud cover.

Wet and shitty.  I pruned stuff in the garden during a brief dryish spell today.

I can't bring myself to prune in the winter. I have too many plants that flower on old wood.

I could use a clean-up on some of the herbaceous tops that I kept too long, though. Winter was late this year and I enjoyed it.
