Plastic is a safe alternative to glass.  It kicks glass in the ass!  :2thumbsup:

Perhaps.
But the plastic life hasn't always been so fantastic.

It is one of the most useful products derived from petroleum. I like nylon and aramid types. I have a level IIIA kevlar vest.

Why do you have a Kevlar vest?  Are you planning to join a SWAT team in the future?  :zoinks:

One of my union brothers had purchased it while he was still a CHP. He sold it to me when he was short on money.

I'm pretty sure they're made of latex or synthetic rubber.

Yeah I believe that is a completely different class of compounds Richard. I just looked up Viton types of synthetics and they use a lot of flourine in production. The Glock, HK, Beretta, Ruger and Smith & Wesson polymer framed pistols I have use Nylon 66 for the frame. Some of the other Rugers use a glass filled Nylon that is also very strong but less flexible. I used to know the proprietary designation but can't recall right now.

Have you ever been shot while wearing a bullet proof vest? I wonder what emotions you go through knowing your not gonna die and live to tell about being shot.

Thanks aspiemomma. you are probably right

No and I would not volunteer for that either. Blunt trauma is better than a penetrating bullet wound but still hurts like hell and can raise a large blood blister or bruise and break the sternum in some cases. For kevlar trauma pltes increase the protection and prevent these effects at the costy of more weight. There is a newer stronger type that generally is a hard stopper and does not get back face deformation but the name of it escapes me right now.  :dunno:

The definition for "plastic" is pretty open-ended. In some ways, nails are plastic as well.
