Too right^
damn knee and hip are killing me..last dose of my pain meds have nearly totally worn off. Just got to pick more up tomorrow morning though.
FINALLY managed to wrestle my on the blink stirplate into doing what I needed it to, and distilled off the DIY vodka (via hydrolysis of ethyl acetate from the lab...although of a high quality, clean grade mind you)...after a long, slow fuckaround all day trying to hydrolyse it sans decent hotplate.
Diluted in water...its pretty much all vodka is, EtOH solution in water. This sure does the trick.
And before anyone asks no I didn't dare try it neat. I value my innards. But damn...cheap way to get around excise duty on spirits, without having to brew your own.
Doesn't half catch in ones throat/sense of smell though. Its EtOAc-free, as I made sure to use an excess of caustic soda in the hydrolysis so as to leave no remainder.
I'm thinking once I get my stirplate sorted out, I should try a bigger batch (this was run on a 2-molar scale, so I can try distilling the finished rectified spirits over aromatic and pallet-pleasing herbs, such as lemon balm (which makes a really good vodka, if its done right))
