It was just a new floor. They didn't move our monitors, though, so we had to make do with crappy old ones. 

Did they touch all your stuff?

What little I have in the office, yes.

I hate it.

And it gets worse. This whole thing is driven by somebody who read waaaaaay too much about Google's non-standard offices, and they are going to refurnish the floors with new monitors, desks, chairs, and so on, but *according to some weird notion of an agile working space*. Apparently, the lot of us content architects--and we are a dozen and a half or so--have a total of, count them, FIVE (5)  desks nominally assigned to us. No-one is guaranteed a desk because people spend their time in meetings and agile discussions and whatnot, or that's the excuse at least, and so we shouldn't expect a fixed space.

Now, a lot of us work from home from time to time, some more than others, but this is going to kill any actual collaboration we do have in place. Most  of us need a desk, a comfortable chair and a large monitor for the duration. We avoid meetings like the plague. Yes, we do have occasional chats and discussions, but most of the time, we actually produce, and this we do by sitting at our desks.

Fuck them all.

  It's bullshit.  Musical desks.  I'd want my own desk, with my stuff in it.

Try being a government auditor.  I've worked in a storage closet, the stage of a gymnasium during summer camp (retrieved a few basketballs), in a bank-type vault using a folding typing table, etc.  Some places were nice (social reception room at the Superdome).  But at least I had something to work at.

Come monday, got to pay those moneygrubbing customs and excise thieving ratbastards sodding import duty on a load of glassware, bought a lot of new kit, that came as a full set, and it cost a fair bit, more than enough, because unfortunately the damned seller didn't understate the value. Tosser. I just hope I don't have to pay it for both, because I have two new different sets of lab glass on the way, first couple of bits have arrived already, but theres something like 70-something pieces coming my way, not including the bits that have already arrived (a new still, and an alembic/retort, distillation, ye olde alchymist style, I've been busily coveting one of those for ages, and now I've got one
