Chased the cub around the back yard, attempted to convince him to eat fruit and veg.
Found gardening to be a good way to get young ones excited about eating plants.

Sigh, the garden has been a disaster this year due to ongoing stress. Most of it is lost or never planted in the first place and now it's pretty late in the growing season.
Don't know the weather patterns, though if there's still 10-12 weeks before the first expected frost, right now might be the perfect time to start a fall garden. Beans, peas, carrots, brassicas, and lettuces grow well in the fall.

I did manage to start some beans a little while back. Tried carrots at the same time but they were a no go in this heat. Suppose it wouldn't hurt anything to put in some more seeds.

I'm allergic to peas unfortunately.

We're pretty far north though and it would be lucky if we got 10-12 more weeks.

I've never heard of anyone being allergic to peas. They're gross anyway, heh.

Today at the Salvos I found some sporks to add to Kayleigh's collection.

Fixed a loose leg on our wooden coffee table with a glass top.  It was a find in a dump store years ago,  Very solid.  Cleaned up well.  Over the years I have noticed that there are a lot of wooden dowels holding it together and they sometimes pop out and I have to gently tap them back in with a tack hammer.  When I flipped it over to get a better view of what was wrong, I saw more small wooden pegs were also holding the leg in position.  I put some crazy glue into the gaps where it looked like there was some breakage and tapped in the pegs/dowels before the glue solidified.  Seems to be ok for now.  It looks like it was made many years ago.

Would definitely stink to do the work to have frost ruin it.

Personally prefer them raw, though that's true of most vegetables. The frozen ones are good too, heated just enough to make them warm but not mushy.

Meh, I should probably try anyway. Just won't build up the cub's expectations so he doesn't get disappointed.

Finally cleared a space for that amur maple bush I got a little while back. It had been sitting in the back in its pot, but still seems to be healthy. I managed to water it almost every day.

Got it planted now and well watered. Hopefully the transplant shock will not be too bad.

Helped  Carla unpack, sort, dry and clean off her camping gear from her solo camping excursion/serious me time.  Unfortunately it rained quite a bit where she was.  Which was why it was good that she used the LLBean 4 person tent as it gave her a dry refuge.  And now its all been repacked and stored away till the next time.  She didn't mind the rain as she still did what she wanted to do, write poetry, do puzzles and even some hiking between rain showers.  And now she's home and I am happy!

Oh man I miss solo camping.

Long ago when Amber was a baby, we camped out near Drumheller Alberta at a riverside camp ground.  With my adopted inlaws.  There were Gooseberries galore (sort of a high bush blueberry) and some funky rock formations on the edge.  Carla bathed in the river very early am.  And some thunderstorms rattled thru that night.  Then we went to The Drumheller Dinosaur Museum the next day.  Poor Mum Newman, took a nap in the truck while Carla, Amber and myself went thru the museum.  Good times, that was the trip that Amber took her first steps into toddlerhood.
