I have an antique wood toybox chest that I'm trying to restore... it's from WolFish and he wanted it to go to the cub... I've got it a little more than half sanded and I need to figure out what would be the best kind of varnish.

After I hit it with the sander I stained the top with watered down black chalk paint, and sealed everything with 2 coats of Minwax Polycrylic gloss...which was supposed to be matte or satin finish, but the boy picked it off the shelf and I didn't double check the can until I had it opened and started putting it on.  :autism:

It's water based, soap & water cleanup and basically no odor, some say it does yellow a bit when dried especially over white, haven't painted anything really light enough to notice though.

...and this is the big blue box....



I stenciled the top and front. The script is in french, a verse from the poem “Le Lac”

Basically it says:  “Oh time suspend your flight, and you favorable hours suspend your course! Let us savor the fleeting delights, the most beautiful of our days!”

I need to start on my cabinets some day.  :laugh:

Bad wording oops.  The house was not pretty though it had been vacant for years and was a dirty mess

Went and saw my friend in hospital. Did some art in the art/craft room they have there and met some nice people, some of whom thought I was a fellow patient. I can blend in it seems. :green:

Went up on the hill with the trimmer to cut grass while the boy ran the mower.

5 minutes into our work effort and I though I smelled smoke...didn't see anything.  :dunno:

It was the mower...the driveshaft froze and belt was smoking...definitely has his father's luck.
But to his credit this was the mower that was submerged in 5 ft of water for over a day after the basement  of the bar flooded 2 years ago.

Quickly cannibalized the coil off of it to get another one fired up so I could finish the lawn. Still need to do a motor swap on another his dad seized up last fall.

Grass season has officially began.
