In a meeting I can't discuss, but DAMN Dubya fucked up more than any of you will ever know in invading Iraq and opened the door for where things are now in the region.

Not surprised but certainly curious.

Those of you with card issues; are your cards RFID chipped? the kind you can swipe over the reader without actually pushing the card into the slot on the reader?  if so people can build scanners that, whilst operating only over the short range of the card-reader systems that are meant to read the cards for processing payment, and nab the details enough to defraud.

They sell expensive scan-proof wallets but really all they are is a wallet with a faraday cage built in. All you need is to line your own wallet with wire mesh of a fine gauge, that will block the signals and render your card unreadable to the thieving little shitbags whilst in the wallet. Aluminium foil even should work, just make sure the liner is thoroughly enclosing the card(s). Wire mesh would be more durable though, and you could make a little catch to have it snap together with those push-fit buttons and a little extra length of mesh.
Beyond the pale. Way, way beyond the pale.

Mine is chipped.  I did read where hackers can follow you in the checkout line and pass a wee heat-sensitive apparatus over the keypad to see which numbers you've pressed.  This gives them both the card number and the access code.  Ever since I read that I've been using the stylus to press the keys.

I did bugger all today apart from sleeping. Hopefully going to clean out my microwave though which must be harbouring all kinds of interesting bacteria by the looks of it.

I sometimes touch several other buttons interspersed between the numbers of my PIN to confound shoulder snooping. Wasn't aware of the heat scanning devices but hopefully it would help against them too.

Two pointless outings to the doctor and the optometrist, then went for a walk to post a letter. At least that went off without a hitch.

A fucking hard combat class which seemed to involve no combat but a hell of a lot of running, punching the air and sweating breathlessly through non-stop circuits.

30 km on the exercise cycle, interval training setting.
Throwing down a 10kg medicine ball 40 times.
some hanging leg lifts.
Nothing else of interest.
