Green was unique to 78' bikes AFAIK.

Throughout the years, they were mostly red or black.

No, got out-bid by someone with deeper pockets than me.  :-\

The one for sale up in Oakland turned out to have $572 in back fees at the DMV.  :(

I'll keep looking for my vintage Cafe Racer project bike.  8)

Better luck next time, then.

There's been a new development.

The owner of the bike on ebay has emailed me saying that the high bidder hasn't responded to his emails of phone number yet. Since I was the second highest bidder, he says he'll sell me the bike if the auction winner doesn't contatct him.  8)

Looks like I might have my cafe racer after all.  :2thumbsup:

Is that the first one or the one with $572 of back fees at the DMV?

I'm glad that you knew to check for back fees at the DMV, by the way.  I would not have thought to do that.

The first one (stock one in Oakland) is the one with $572 in back fees.

The second one (cafe racer with white wall tires, in Lancaster) is the one that was on ebay that i have shot at getting.

Well, I think I've finally found my bike.

It's a 78' with 13,000 miles on it.

It's owned by a guy who seems quite knowledgeable about the XS 650 and he's asking $1600.

The thing that sucks is that it's up in the Stockton area, 5 hours drive from here. :tantrum:

If the guy is for real and not another scammer, then it's worth the drive.

I once drove from Alabama to Texas with my mother in my little brother's pickup truck to take a used tail light assembly from a junkyard to our brother and bring back a motorcycle from that brother to our little brother.  I took along a pistol for protection and it was a fun trip.

I doubt he's a scammer, he seems pretty straightforward and has obviously (from talking to him) owned several of these bikes.

He doesn't seem like he's trying to screw with the price, unlike the other guy in Lancaster, and is asking slightly below Kelly Blue Book value.
