On the left side of my face.
What kind of infection did your mother in law have, that was so bad it took a few days in hospital and an IV to clear up?
It was called septic olecranon bursitis, which is an infection in the bursa in the elbow and it got worse very quickly. They gave her several different IV antibiotics to find something that would kill the bacteria, but they were afraid to draw out the fluid to culture it because they thought it might get into her blood and her immune system might not be strong enough to handle it. When she started to get better, they sent her home with an oral antibiotic and she got serum sickness from it, so they had to switch to something else, but she did finally get well from it.
They cultured mine and found out that it was MRSA, but clindamycin took care of it. There were some other antibiotics that would have been more effective, but I was allergic to them or they were available only in IV form.
