Both of my dogs love other dogs and play well with them in daycare and at the dog park, but it makes me kind of sad that I can't have other dogs over to my house unless they know them really well. One of my females is super dominant. She ruins all the fun.
Let's just say that the guest and the puppy had some initial difficulties.
Not surprising. It's hard for dogs to have another dog in their personal space. My big dog is fine no matter who comes over because she's super submissive, the other not so much. Next time, for a smoother transition, you can meet the other dog outside and go for a walk together. It changes the energy between the two of them as they're focused on the walk but they're also picking up on the other dogs scent at the same time. Then coming home together and into the house can be easier because they're already used to each other and they're energy is better matched. Plus they're tired.
