I saw this, and I had to comment.  I didn't know either, but I found this on wikipedia

So there you go.  I had a thought that it might set up a buffer solution, even though the salt and the acid have different conjugate bases, but I guess not.  I think the conjugates do have to be the same.  Forgive me, titration was not my strong point last semester!

By the way, in the unlikely event that that does happen to you, try not to breathe the HCl.

Sodium bisulfate is useful.

Both NaHSO4 and HCl are acidic in solution.

Bisulfate makes a damn good start point for tear gas too, just heat with glycerine, and distill off the acrolein produced.

Fuck damn, that stuff is pure evil on the eyes and respiratory tract. Made the mistake of pouring a test tube containing a small quantity down the sink and flushing it with hot water once. Oops...it vaporised quite a lot, which came back up the plug hole as fumes and sent me running for the hills :D
