It was stupid of me to tell someone about a decision I had made hoping I'd get support. Instead they told me exactly what I figured they would...."you can't make that decision...what if...." followed up by "well it's your decision to make...but..." I can't keep letting what if's dictate my life. I wish they'd realize it. On the other hand, I need to stop looking for approval.

Yep.  We had one elderly woman who has live here for more than 15 years (ID card), but cannot read or write English.  There was a 33 y/o woman who is developmentally delayed, but who voted for the first time.  Democracy doesn't always mean WASP.
