Walmart was still open, so I took the cub to buy some new snow pants. Most white collar jobs are off work though, and schools and childcare are closed.

The whole thing has been highjacked by the jingoistic "Support the Troops" flag wavers.  It's not a patriotic thing.  Its an acknowledgement of the horror and futility of war and symbolises the lost generation of youth that were ground to pieces only to rot in the fields of Flanders.

If you can find patriotic glory in that message then you deserve a boot.

And the people with rainbow or white poppies are no better.  The original poppy was all about inclusivity and pacivism anyway.

I put my money in the box but I don't wear the poppy.  Not until the guilt shaming arseholes stop doing their thing.
