There was a brick shithouse of a bouncer outside the grocery store today, letting one person at a time trickle in and making sure everyone stayed in line at a sufficient distance apart.

WELCOME BACK WEEBLE!   :cbc:  :grouphug:

i thought COVID-19  would bring some oldies back :)
me, i self-isolate almost all the time, so it's sorta co-incidence in my case (and curiosity, and missing folk)
heck it's gonna be even harder keeping up with you lot, now that you all have the exact same advantage as me
it's really good to see so many of the old crowd anyway :)

Hello Walkie!  Good to see you too!

Granted I don't live in the greatest neighbourhood but it was still weird. So I went to the drugstore across the street instead, which also has essentials.

Another freaky doomsday-ish feeling hit me today  ...

Last night/early morning on patrol doing the Neighborhood Watch thing, Tom and I did not see a single soul outside anywhere on any of our routes. Only one car drove by that we saw from 1 AM until a bit after 5 AM  and it was a police car.

This is a small, "roll up the sidewalks early" type of community (hence the need for trained neighborhood watch programs being popular - you see someone roaming at stupid late they are probably from Indy and bring an undesirable element to a small town. Watch and report.) anyway, but last night was VERY still.

Last week it was fairly light with still a bit of bustle ruffling, but not last night. Creepy.

The tube is crowded, sure, but people still avoid eye contact. The same with walking in London. Lots of people but no Brit will establish eye contact.

Many could be avoiding eye contact because they are having to ration their own toilet paper. They are not confident that their butts are clean.
 :lol1:

This was already the case before covid-19.

There was a queue to the state-owned liquor store today, with a guard making sure that only a few people were allowed in at the same time.

A few stores in our area have initiated number limits on customers at a time.  They use only one entrance and another for exit to keep track of the number.  Market Basket for one, though other stores are considering the same option.

Obligatory here now.

And sanitizer at the entrance. So the shopping carts have clean handles.
Staff is polishing doors of fridge and freezer units clean constantly.

When I walked into Lowe's (a hardware super store), they were doing the same thing with the carts.

They're mounting protective glass sheets in front of counters in some shops now. Saw one at a coffee specialty shop yesterday.

Now, there's an essential business if you ever saw one.

:lol1:

Coffeeshops, I they are still open are only take away now.

The supermarket has customized perspex sheets at the tills.
The snackbar has conjured a screen all the way through the shop. A drywall frame of wood covered with a huge sheet of plastic. With one small opening to transfer food and pay by card.

The youngest is asleep, as are the dogs. HB and the oldest are at the grocery store so the house is blissfully quiet.

This specialty shop sells coffee beans from all over the world. They also have an excellent selection of chocolates.
