Spruce means "tree from (East) Prussia". It's unknown how the s got there, but "Pruce" is Medeival French for Prussia.

Around 1400 the Swedish wowel system collapsed. Since then u is pronounced [ʉː] and o is pronounced [uː]. Before that the pronunciation was the same as in German still today. A similar but not completely identical development happened in all other Nordic languages. The Danish u is somewhere between the Swedish and the German.

Wine is neuter - vinum - in Latin. In the Vulgate Latin it's masculine, though. It's also masculine in German.

The Latin names for colours are usually very simple. Blue is caeruleus, from caelus=sky. Red is ruber, from robur, which is hard oak, that is red inside. Green is viridis, which is related to virile, namely the virility of sprout.

This was posted on Television without Pity - Duggars section.  I had to laugh and love this dear, sweet little old lady.

Archaic Latin (75 BC-1000 BC) had more different forms for the feminine endings of the 1st declination, like ablative puellad. This is similar to weak German feminine nouns, that once had the ending -(e)n in all singular forms except the nominative.
