I nearly married a Russian girl when I was young.  It was about a year before the Communist regime ended and she was studying here and was scared to go back.  I told her I'd marry her so she could stay.  She ended up leaving becaue she was worried about what they'd do to her family in retribution if she didn't return.

I still remember her smile, her laugh, and her peculiarly Russian hand knitted underwear.
I was being flippant, but your journey seems more serious. Loss of a favored can be rough.

But again, flippancy ...Hand Knit? Really? I mean wow, did you not show her a Walmart, Target, Miejer, Kohl's, or twenty others
to list if I wasn't so tired of typing?

A friend and colleague at work is constantly in a pissy mood these days, and clearly far from OK. Thinking he's more stressed than I am. Not sure what to do about it.

Give them space and grace. Offer something like a coffee or a chocolate. Compliment them and walk away. Tell them a stupid joke they can't help but snicker over after you leave.
Just be there, sometimes.
Don't ask questions.

^Thanks.

Pretty much what I do. I don't know of any good advice.

Sugarbutt was asking me what's with the obsession with charcuterie? He said the word must mean I want a sandwich but I don't have any bread. I said no, it means I'm not cooking. I told him meat and chees trays have been a gathering staple as long as veggie trays and antipasto trays, but millennial women have discovered they can serve them to their family as a meal if they give it a fancy name; they chose charcuterie. I absolutely can't wait to tell him we're having charcuterie and crudités for lunch on Thanksgiving day.  :zoinks:

At the Salvos, there's an American lady named Judy who comes in on Fridays to sort clothing. She's from Boston and I really like her accent. Even though she lives here in Australia, she still celebrates Thanksgiving Day with her family.

On Friday she brought in two pumpkin pies for everyone to have a piece of. I had a big piece and I can tell you that I'd like more pumpkin pie in my life. It was delicious. There was none of it left by the end of the day. I thanked Judy very much for the chance to try an American Thanksgiving food.

I bought 13 HP calculators from a lady who was clearly selling off his late husband's earthly possessions. The oldest of the calculators is from 1973 and still works, while the newest is HP's latest and greatest, the Prime. This one appears to have been made in 2015.

The other 11 are representative models from the years in between, and most of the calculators have cases and manuals, too. :)

The cub randomly pointed at a package of croissants in the store and said he liked them. He ate a huge one for lunch and another one for dinner. This is a big deal for a kid who refuses to eat much more than PB and honey, and mac and cheese.
You'll never self-actualize the subconscious canopy of stardust with that attitude.
