Odeon suggested that in addition to clearing my cache and deleting my cookies, I occasionally turn off my DSL modem for 30 or so seconds to reset it.
I just did that now and it definitely helped a lot, but still, the site is slower than a hardcore postwhore would like it to be.   :violin:
